I hate when liberals say that people who want lower taxes feel that way because they hope they'll be rich some day. It's such a gross and incorrect simplification.
wish he would come to my university and educate some of my peers....love the corner, generation kill and of course the greatest television show to ever be broadcast in america, the wire
The only thing I think The Wire has not fully covered is the culture of criminals - not those who are coerced into crime due to their circimstances, but those who commit crimes for the hell of it. Those who will end up criminals either way, but wish to take others down with them and make as much grief for others as possible in the process. I do not feel this was covered in The Wire fully.
dude that guy was Avon and Marlo, and a few minor chracters. The reason there wasnt more focus on these types of people is because they are the minority in the drug war. There just are not that many people who live off of violence. The smart ones like Stringer and Prop Joe did not want violence. Violence was a last resort as it is for most people. Avon and Marlo chose violence first which only a few do.
Why was it edited at 2:32? Surely he can't have said something THAT offensive? How ironic that the America David Simon refers to censoring his own words. I-R-O-N-Y!
We now see there is NO difference between Democrat or Republican.......now we just have a President that can complete a sentence and use proper grammar.
"If Obama doesn't get the job done, it's time for a revolution" -- fully agree. should go without saying, actually. this is the last chance for the system to redeem itself. if they screw it up, there will be blood.
regarding this vid: anybody happen to know what was censored at 2:32 ?
I understan and fell david simon about som matter lik captalism and about baltimore cuz is like that in every major city in usa and there third world condtionin in the major citys in usa and the world .
why should american life live poor and on wlfare and food stamps when other got a lot cash ..i hate captilism
William Hughes - thanks for putting this up there, but when you edit out what I'm guessing is a slight against religion, or the church, then I get the feeling that you're kinda missing a large part of his point.
Why is the video cut at 2:31? Tell me the uploader is OK with Simon speaking so much truth about so many instituions in the country, but he can't say anything about wrong about your fucking church?!
No backbone, OP. Don't censor this man, there's enough of that shit already.
Type in "Ron Paul on Monetary Policy" into youtube here, this man needs our vote in 08. He understands the issues The Wire deals with. It all comes together. He is NOT politics as usual!
Ron Paul is a smart guy, but his position is the opposite extreme to Simon's here... Simon criticizes capitalism for making people matter less. Ron Paul wants to end socialized programs and let the market decide what matters.
what about the black homosexuals? they got the worst deal. blacks hate homosexuals. blacks should have their civil rights refused if they take it upon themselves to deny the rights of homosexuals.
I'm curious, what goes on in your mind when you justify taking away the rights of an entire group of people because they won't extend equal rights and respect to another group of people? Does that position seem at all conflicted to you?
You shouldn't have to take away the rights of another group in order for all your citizens to have those rights. PLus white people aren't losing rights so stfu.
you not listening to what hes sayin at all why thats wat hes sayin certain groups of americans especially black in the poverty are just being left behind listen
Throughout the 20th century it has been laborers, women, blacks, immigrants, diasbled, and homosexuals. Every movement to extend rights to these people has been a progressive movement and has required government. Each of these groups continue to be vulnerable, none have reached some some safe pedestal.
powerful speech. There's no light at the end of the tunnel. America's slowly dying.

What about Marlo and his gang?
I got the feeling Marlo was a very 'for the hell of it' sadistic type character.

Whats ironic is that Obama loves The Wire. I for one cannot understand how one can even want to praticipate in politics after watching thw show.
I certainly hopes he keeps Carcetti in mind during his presidency.

"No Child Left", New Orleans post-Katrina, neocons privatized education. See Naomi Klein, Disaster Capitalism.
Here Simon notes the fake Christian satanist right teaches that The Love of Money Is the Root of All GOOD, not evil. "Since Roosevelt", Simon says.
