@BBEEAANN1 Marino and O'Brien competed in the first 2 QB challenges and O'Brien was clearly more accurate than anyone. His accuracy was amazing. Marino clearly was one of the most accurate passes of all time. As far as who the better QB was- well that's an entire differn't story. QB's get judged by a lot- leadership, decision making, in addition to physical talent- be it quick release, arm strenghth, accuracy, pocket pressence, and foot speed.

@BBEEAANN1 Kenny O'Brien was more accurate than Marino. Marino was at this event and was third behind Moon and O'Brien. Marino was without a doubt one of the most accurate passers, but O'Brien was the most and he could show it in games too! He'z the only QB to pass for over 400 yards with a perfect passer rating (32-26-431-4-0). He defeated Marino in the NFL's greatest passing game too (927 yards! and 10 TDs). Marino had a quicker release. Neither QB had a great D much of a running game.

Kenny couldn't throw to well cause he was always getting knocked on his ass cause of the crappy front line. He was hit, pounded, rushed, chased and beaten into the turf so many times, it's a no wonder he can still think. In the very end, I did not blame him cause it's hard to throw when your flat on your back.

@amazingqb and to follow that up id like to ask you a question.. if you had to pick out of ken o'brien and drew brees to start on your football team.. both in there prime.. your picking ken o'brien because he is hitting some gigantic moving squares with no rush on him at all? i would take drew because he is threading the needle with passes to everyone from every distance while getting some serious pressure in his face.. every sunday!

@chris0323 Frist off, I'm not saying who the better QB is. What I am saying is I think arguably Ken O'Brien is the most accuract NFL passer of all time. I'd put Marino, Warner, and Brees up in the top- but just for pure accuracy, Ken O'Brien was more impressive- and yes more than Brees in game situations. O'Brien is the only QB to have earned a perfect nfl rating in a 400 yard game. 32-26-431-4-0. That's impressive. Check out the youtube Ken O'Brien videos.

@amazingqb are you serious? umm thats what he does for a living.. he hits moving targets for various distances every sunday.. the guy completed over 70% of his passes last season and won a super bowl. no offense my friend, but what has ken o'brien ever done? his next best were moon and marino.. hmm yes two very good quarterbacks, but also no where near drews accuracy.. are you serious with this (lol)

@chris0323 Drew is accurate- but I doubt he'd be able to do as well as Ken O'Brien did here. Especially at the near 40 and 50 yard passes. I saw him nail 20 yard non moving targets, but moving targets, espcially 30 plus yards is very difficult to do. He doubled the next best QBs (Moon and Marino were the next best) in this competition.

I'm a lifelong Jet fan & I love O'Brien, I think he was the best QB we ever had. WHY Jet fans hate this guy is beyond me. BEYOND ME. This guy took a royal BEATING constantly, he had a crap offensive line, he was accurate as hell, threw bullets and brought as close as we ever got until last season. Geez, remember that Miami game? 51-45? Holy Crap! O'Brien was a great QB on a crap team.

But I do remember reading that he was told to hold on to the ball if nobody was open and if you can remember back then, throwing the ball away was intential grounding. I'd rather a QB take a sack, then throw a int- something he rarely did. His coaches were not the best- and his Offense wasn't west coast, so no dump passes.

Defense wins SuperBowls not QB's. I did some research to prove my point. Since 1970 we have had 40 SB wins. For Defense, 24 were in the top 5, 33 were in top 10 and only 5 out of 40 had a bad D. For you conspiracy nuts, the 9/11 "Patriots" and the "feel bad for New Orleans" teams had the worst Ds of the SB winners since 1970. (ranked 24 and 25). As a fan of NFL QB's these stats are hard to argue. Great QB's don't win SBs.

I'll tell you what though - I always thought Ken O'brien was a very underated quaterback - great skill.......but Marino was still the best = ) Anybody know where I can find clips of the old quterback challenges from the early 90s or late 80s - I remember Marino won a bunch of them and I also remember Jeff Hostetler won it one year when he was with the Raiders beating out Marino .

This video is from the year Marino won the overall in 1991- but Moon and Marino were 2nd and 3rd in this event- O'Brien had more points than both combined. O'Brien clearly was the most accurate passer, probably ever. Of course Marino and Moon were very very accurate passers as well. O'Brien just never had a healthy consistantO-Line protection or an aggressive offensive cordinator that took advantage of his passing ability IMHO.

@nwpamundsen O'Brien won the first in 1990 and Marino won this overall event in 1991. O'Brien as a passer was second to none in strength and accuracy. As a QB, well that's hard to determine since you have to take into account leadership, quick decisions, smart decisions, audibles etc. Offensive cordinators and coaching with talented players is just as responsable for a successful QB than anything too. NFL is a team sport..

@nwpamundsen Marino or O'Brien- well that isn't really fair. Marino is one of the all time greatest of greats you know. But as a passer alone- I think O'Brien was stronger and even more accurate than Marino who too is one of the most accurate passers of all time. But the QB is more than just passing. O'Brien does hold a 8-7 advantage when they played each other. lol. The safe bet is Marino was the better QB. But, I wouldn't be surprised if O'Brien would have done better as a Dolphin!

He was statistic oriented and played that way. He'd throw one yard TD bombs rather then run the ball. How many rings did he win? If OB was on that Miami team, he would have brought home the bacon!

@KentuckyJet - you're dead on Kentucky. If Marino had the play with the crap Jet teams of that time, who knows what stats he'd have, he's got no rings either. O'Brien gets sold short because of his lousy offensive line, but the guy was accurate as holy hell, and could throw the bomb & threw bullets. I dont think Marino was any better than O'Brien, I know thats a bold statement, but Kenny got stuck with lousy coaches, no protection and fans who expected too much.

@XRRfan DUD: they did have a running game. Only NO RING wanted great stats and chose not to employ it. I saw him throw an INT from the 2 yard line in Miami against the jets. He lost the game as a result. He could have run the ball but he wouldn't lose an opportunity to pad his stats!

@KentuckyJet The running game was only with Mcneil or at times with Hector. O'Brien is human and made mistakes too. Manning, Favre, Warner, etc all have lost games by throwing a int. When it came to INT, O'Brien rarely made them overall.  He led the NFL in several seasons with the lowest INT rate. He believed it was better to take a sack than throw a stupid INT from a collapeds line. Something is OLine forced him to take a lot of.

That is a good question. I am split 50/50 on the Jets putting # 99 for Gastineu. Good defensive player, but he cared about himself more than the team. Kyle Clifton played from 1984-1996. Despite that, I don't think the Jets should retire # 59 for him. To answer your second question, neither player has their number retired.And when Kevin Mawae retires, the Jets should retire # 68 for him. I also wouldn't see anything wrong with the Jets retiring # 57 for Mo Lewis.

Who can forget battle worn Joe Klecko in great pain going in for one more play with all our hopes and dreams riding on that play and for Dennis Byrd who gave his body up and with god's grace is still with us today. These are the two that should adorn OUR new stadium or at least OUR new circle of hero's that will adorn OUR new Stadium!

I am not surprised to witness this outcome, since O'Brien was always a very accurate strong-armed QB during his tenure with the Jets. Would like to see how he did in the long throw competition against others. By the way, since no other Jet QBs/Ps wearing #7 have imposed more significant impact on this franchise than Kenny O, this number should not be worn (if not retired) by other Jet players in the future. TFP.

Chrebet was a Jet from 1995-2005. I think that is long enough. And, no he wasn't famous for being white. He was known for making big catches on third down, hence his nickname, "Mr. Third Down."

Chrebet had the second most receptions in Jets history. And as I mentioned, he is known for making clutch catches on third down. "Mr. Third Down", deserves to have his number retired. Many Jet fans think so too. You don't get a nickname that that if you don't make clutch catches. The fact that he was white, had nothing to do with it. It isn't always about Pro Bowl appearances, he meant a lot to Jets fans, and is one of the most popular Jets of all time.

He became popular by being a clutch receiver when it is third down. When your team has a third down, and you have Chrebet on your team, you pass it to him. I could also make a case for the Jets retiring # 5 for Pat Leahy.
