@bonsonjim Yeah it happens if the eggs arnt ready to hatch just make sure to remove the unhatched eggs with the peat moss if you want to try again. Remember not all eggs hatch and if alot of eggs hatch most dont survive.
I like to use COOL dechlorinated water and just make sure that it splashes over the eggs rather than gently pouring it in the tray to mimic a heavy rainfall that trick works very well. Also make sure the eggs are from a trusted dealer usually from Thailand. Good luck bro
HELP !!!my killifish eggs havent hatched yet and i mimicked the dry period for 2 months and now its been a week since ive added water to the eggs and so far none of them have hatched and btw a mysterious film has developed on the surface help!
@Xtractable Ok calm down. !st off they have been in the water wayyyyy tooo long, the film on the surface of the water is because the water is motionless in other words you havnt added a small airstone in the water. Did you buy the eggs or have you taken them out of your killifish tank???? if you still have the eggs in the water they are no use now for the reason mould bacteria has taken over. Did you add cool mineral water??? Did you put the eggs 1st then add the water?
@vassilis359995 i bought the eggs on ebay and i added water from my tropical freshwater tank, not mineral water, and yes i put the eggs in first then the water
@Xtractable The eggs didnt need to be incubated and they shouldnt have been placed in a cup thats why they didnt hatch and you should add cool bottled water not fish tank water only a couple of inches of water for the 1st few days and gradually increase the water level and keep a small light above them 24 hours a day so they are always feeding so that they grow quicker. NO INCUBATING NEEDED and never expect to hatch all the eggs you be lucky to get 5 to 8 good fry out of 50 eggs
@Xtractable And remember eggs from ebay are already incubated and ready to hatch they are quality eggs, you will get results in 15 minutes after adding cool water.
@vassilis359995 ok when i got the killifish eggs i put them in a styrofoam cup and heated it to about 80 degrees in a dark place for about 2 months, then i put the eggs and the peat into a tupperware bowl and filled that with aged water from one of my fishtanks, in an attempt to promote infrosia i put 2 or 3 bloodworms and plant material in the bowl. i also broke up the peat. its been a week and none of them have hatched!
@Xtractable You heated the eggs?? as in an incubator???? The peat must have dried up if it was in a cup they should have been in a sealed plastic bag. If you bought the eggs online the egg wouldnt have needed incubation you could hatch them as soon as you get them. Also dont use fish tank water use mineral water (not sparkling) Killifish need clean water only a few inches deep, The water should be poured on to the peat arround 30 cm high to mimic a rainfall and use brine shrimp to feed them
@vassilis359995 goddamnit i thought the instructions said to incubate them for 2 months. so basically i did everything wrong haha. do you think i should just get more because they were only 8 bucks and they still havent hatched yet
@anshu1234 Hay Anshu thanks for helping me out buddy , they are doing very well thanks to you. I just added the java moss 2 hours ago like you told me to do and they seem to have hidden inside it lol ermmmmm yeah my wife was singing in the back ground sorry about that hehehehe shes 7 months pregnant and very happy and doesnt stop singing::):):):) im gonna make another video so you can see tomorrow when they are a week old. Take care buddy.
@vassilis359995 wow another congrats to you and your nice_voice wife :D . so you raising fry is practicing eh ? hehe . just kidding.
yea, I have subscribed to you, so add videos later as you go on this.
BTW , you too were worried about LOTS of killies in my tank right? i sold half of them in 1 day after announcing at a local forum. no rest of the killies have lots of space to bite and run hehe.
@vassilis359995 the rest of the killies are amazing, I havent tried to catch eggs as temperature here in mumbai is in 90 (faren.) and don't think eggs will hatch without dormancy period. will try when rainy season start's in june/july.
thanks for the video, very cool.
I started trying to hatch killifish eggs my gf brought me.
It's one day since i put the peat moss into the water and only 1 fish hatched so fart.
