Nive reviev! But I'm not completely understand about whispernet.
Can I see all internet sites with Whispernet and will it work in Russia? I want to see web-pages like vk.com or mail.ru or yandex.ru, it's russian sites.
Fantastic. I also live in Japan and was wondering about the same things with the kindle. I will be purchasing one by the end of the month (august 2010) now that I now that the web is semi decent. Thanks for the great review.
@RaymondCorrigan If it wasn't 3G, what were you using? wi-fi? They just opened up the third generation for pre-order on amazon like 2 days ago. I'm hoping some of these elements have been fixed or at least made a little better.

P.S. I had some Metropolis magazine networking party to go to and got home late.
P.P.S. It's 3:30 AM! Stop replying to youtube videos and go to sleep dude bro! :)
@RaymondCorrigan Oh interesting. I didn't realize it could access the 2g as well. Where are you living in Japan. I'm out in Chiba, but work in Tokyo all week.
This is by far the most informative video I've come across. I just got my Kindle yesterday and scoured the Amazon site looking for a video demo on how to use the internet on it. They should be paying you! I have been watching this video, pausing and following the step on my Kindle, then playing more video, then pausing to do the step on my Kindle.........and I've learned tons. Thank you so very much. I really appreciate it.
I a few weeks time I plan to make a video titled "10 cool things to do with your kindle"... or something like that. I`ll send you the link when it`s out.
Yes, you can read and write email on gmail. I show this in the video at about 4:00.
Some email providers don`t work though.
You can`t tell by the video but it is very readable. The kindle is perfect for text email, facebook, blogs and stuff like that. Just not animation/video.
Right now only America, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore have whispernet (free internet) as far as I know. All countries can access the book store and I THINK wikipedia.
I looked at the coverage in Japan on Amazon's website, and its either 3G or nothing, therefore I assume that the 3g in japan may not be full 3g in all areas, and in countries like Canada, US, and Mexico, the web browser may be quite a bit faster.
Could you attempt to load the Youtube homepage just for laughs? does it randomly support flash? maybe you can attempt to watch a video! LOL
The 3G is good over here, I have yet to find a blind spot and less than full bars is rare. The speed is comparable to my phone, but I can choose to not download images and it becomes crazy fast.
Yes, it supports flash... moron : P
Actually youtube was one of the first things I tried!
It`s a bit messy. Reading comments is functional but everything else fails (signing in, videos, personal messages, writing comments).
I bet the Kindle will get faster with later updates, and once the browser is actually out of "experimentation" they might have a release that can process more images and maybe run 15% faster. I think the Kindle has the power to process that.
Yeah, I`d have to agree. They managed to squeeze 85% more time out of the battery with a software update so it would make sense that the experimental things would have room for improvement.
Still, it only takes a second or two with images turned off and it`s only 2-4 times slower than my netbook with broadband, so I`m not too bothered.
And who needs images? If i wanna check my e-mail or do random things like facebook, I dont NEED the images, I can still comment on statuses and things, and wait till I get to my computer to view pictures and things. I hope I can get one before I go to my cousins wedding in July, because its a 5 hour drive, and I wanna be doing SOMETHING!
Kindle is great for filing the gaps in your day. Waiting for a friend, riding the train, in a restaurant etc..
Listening to books in your car is a great feature once you get used to the voice (male voice on slow speed is best). If you`re studying you can download your textbooks (or similar ones) and listen to them in the car, saves money and time.
Nice FSX landing BTW. I want it now! I had my solo license in Australia but I haven`t used a simulator in years!
That Cessna is so easy to fly though. Hence why it is used to train all around the world. Also because it is the safest aircraft ever built for over 150 different structural reasons. :D
I wanna work my way up to being an airline pilot. Who knows, could happen.
It`s faster than 56k but sometimes the site layout is wrong (~10%).
It`s not in colour, but reading is easy.
It won`t lose it`s connection but the device will reset for about 20 seconds about as often as dialup will disconnect (after a few hours of internet use).
It can`t do online music/video.
So usability/frustration wise it`s pretty much like having a 56k connection on a netbook.
Probably overloading you with info! I just like to know exactly what I`m buying.
Nah, Information is great to have. I always do extensive research before making an investment. I'm going to be a college student shortly so a free connection to a website like wikipedia for general reference while researching on the go should be immensely helpful.
Well, thanks for your review, I think I'll buy a kindle soon..maybe wait and see if its prices drop to lose competition of the iPad.
P.S. Good job in your other video taking on that old goon, VenomFangX.
1. CNET took 25 seconds to load. The layout is good (kindle automatically opens the mobile website).
2. I recently added Facebook. It is very fast and totally usable for chat/adding friends and stuff (probably too usable considering how addictive it can be). But I couldn`t do a facebook quiz with the kindle.
It took me months to decide to get the kindle. Now I`m reading MUCH more than I ever did before. It was well worth my money just for that.
Thank you very much for this video! I was very curious about the web browsing capabilities. I've been looking into getting an ebook reader and this video is a big help in letting me get to know the Kindle 2. Thanks again.

Hey,
You`ll probably get faster download speeds as I had no `3g` connection in this review. Also I`d recommend disabling pictures for really fast surfing.
Oh, and if you want to read kanji here is my video on how to hack your kindle.

I hope you find it as useful as I have

Just the standard 2G mobile phone connection. Like when your phone has a connection but you can only make standard calls, not video calls.
Yeah, I want the kindle 3! The wi-fi (not on kindle 2) would be great for travel. Also the screen and battery are supposedly awesome.
P.S. Fair enough!
