I heard it a few times when it first came out, then I heard it on "Batman & His Grandmother" about 20 to 25 years later and it reminded me of this song. Thanks to people like Dickie Goodman and my huge break-in collection, I've rediscovered quite a few songs I've forgotten about, mostly because radio has forgotten about them. Such a DIRTY shame that there's SO much music out there and radio hardly scratches the surface of what's outr there!!!! Especially oldies stations!!!!
I miss my sweet Wanita. We mowed so many lawns together. I tenderly emptied her clipping bin and scraped her deck. My Wanita had a voice much sweeter than this bellowing sow....Juanita.
I didn't hear this record back when it came out in 1966. I was familiar only with an excerpt that was used in the record "Batman and his Grandmother" by Dickie Goodman (which is what is known as a "break-in" record). I finally heard this song in 1978 when I took a pop culture course at a university, and the teacher played it one night. And then I didn't hear it again until I found it on YouTube.
I grew up in a home dominated by classical music - yet for some reasons my Mum/Grandma had this one as a single in stock - I never found out why. Nice to revisit this memory!
@andressen My mother always liked "Rhapsody in the Rain" (by Lou Christie) for the same reason. I had no idea why until after she died. She probably would have liked "Lover's Concerto" by The Toys and "Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procal Herum as well.
Dit is zo een leuk nummer. Het herinnert me aan de goed oude tijd op Curacao, waar ik keer op keer deze single draaide. We dansden erop met de meest uitzinnige danspasjes.

...and you sing like her...? or why that nickname from your teacher?
Maybe you should sing opera, not to shoe horses...

My god, but I've been looking for this song since I heard as a child in the late 1960s!
I've always wondered, over the decades, was this Overture to Carmen to a rock'n'roll guitar a figment of my imagination?
gorgonique 2 years ago
It is an aria of Rigoletto, by G. Verdi.

Really? I didn't know it. Explain, Bud.
gustavogomezdiaz 2 years ago
Yes, the part sung by Juanita is an aria of the Opera Rigoletto whose name is "Caro Nome".
