I totally agree! Prince is located in another category ... another plane .. not a simple pop artist .... I would say it would be like a classical music as Vivaldi, Chopin, Mozart, etc. .. of our time, as a great conductor, composing, orchestrating his music with swing, feeling and expression .... besides being a great singer, musician and dancer. Prince is to me is the most complete and full stop.

Whether Prince (or anyone) can read has nothing to do with their ability as a songwriter/producer/musician. One could argue that his incredible ability to map out entire song productions in his head makes actual notation of his music unnecessary. Music is about the ears. The writing of it isn't nearly as important as the playing of it.

It seems like Telecaster was made for Prince, it is such a perfect match and he just looks real good and smooth when he plays it. I think the reason why he is underrated as a great guitar player is being multi-talented. Prince is definitely an awesome guitar player and I'm ashamed of realizing this so late! Please check out another video of Prince playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" during the George Harrison tribute concert. It was amazing!

MAYBE SRV or Jimi were better guitarists than Prince, then again he doesn't concentrate on guitar only like those guys did. He's a drummer, bassist, keyboard player. A complete MULTI-instrumentalist. But I'm still not convinced that he's not a better guitar player too!

@kevjev -- I would debate that Hendrix was a better guitarist. Maybe if he had lived to continue his craft, Prince would have had more to catch-up to. But 50+ year old Prince is definitely a better guitarist than 27-year-old Hendrix. MO, of course, but I'm no guitar Aficionado .

@barryjdwyer Yea it's a hohner. Prince been playing this guitar since '81. Hohner even states it on the website and also say that Prince had no plans for a signature Hohner Tele, shame, such a nice guitar.

One of God's greatest gifts to us, he is a whole lot of everybody(jimi,james brown,parliment, elvis-check out suits, carlos santana) and then he ups them all with the mastering of all instruments, singing danciing, and to me the greatest guitarist there is. He is the one musician, all musicians should study how he stays away from tabloids, at the same time can wow everyone at a grammy's, superbowl performance, etc. He's never stopped making his music.

Technicians have said he can write and completely create a song in his head before he even starts to make it. The full sound, how all the instruments are gonna be layed and all the chords etc.. and they just sit there with him while he basically just lays it all down till it sounds like in his head. - The man is the biggest genius the pop world has ever seen... he too good to be put in the same category as any other pop stars. BUT i didn't sell my soul& ass to the big purple penissed devil when i was 19. so now i look old and toil in obscurity. Job and i know well the price of true faith. I agree, Prince plays with flair, soul, funk and true passion. So many other guitar virtuosos (especially when it comes to Metal music) bore me with their endless solos and predictable riffs. Prince is a seriously underrated guitarist. If it wasn't for him I would've never picked up a guitar. And it was when I heard this song in 1992, it was when I decided to pick up the guitar. Thank you Prince.

@kevjev I've read in various bios that he actually knew how to play 20 instruments by the age of 12!! he was actually what is called today a child prodigy! as well as writing all his own music and on at least the 1st 4 albums layed down all the music and vocal tracks himself! (played all those instruments and doin all the background and harmony vocals-just genius!) I just saw him 3 times in L.A. he's ageless & timeless-no1 better on Earth!

The Artist:) is such an underrated brilliant guitarist. I mean, I'd rather watch Prince play guitar and bump and grind (like the other technically correct guitar gods "can't) than virtually any guitarist. Eric Clapton puts me to sleep. No offense. The only one I think that has come close is Springsteen when he was young and raw. Still, though, he didn't approack Prince's style and funky/dancy/groove style, showmanship.
