  • what a classy guy!!!

  • he is amazing

  • Conan will be back. Wait and watch. A talented man such as himself will over come this moment in time and reappear!

  • the last few lines are the best words of advice someone could give

  • thats class right there

  • the best host on television ... !!!

  • Farewell to the greatest host on television

  • @trustkill260 Hopefully just a temporary goodbye! :)

  • That was a VERY sad night for Conan fans, due to the departure of a "REAL & TRULY HILARIOUS COMEDIAN!!"........."We love you Conan!!"

  • kinda looks like robocop post-shooting

  • i think conan is hilarious, and letterman is waaayy too political anymore

  • hey conan we wish you all the best ...

  • Why didn't they have leno use Conan's set on the Tonight Show.

  • NBC lost one of its BEST TV personalities and comedians... JAY LENO hosted this show for a long time and it is his time to go off the air, like john carson... and if you think that conan did not do a great job on the Tonight Show you are a MORON

  • Why then do you think Leno's ratings were so much higher than Letterman's, and Conan's ratings were so much lower than Letterman's? I'll tell you the answer. Because Conan is NOT funny!!!! Plain and simple....he is NOT funny!!! And Leno is funny...plain and simple!!!

Understand? The funnier you are, the higher your ratings, which Conan never got, and that's why Conan was fired. He is not funny and got poor ratings.

  • Why do you think Leno's ratings were so much higher than Letterman's, WHEN HE FIRST TRAILED LETTERMAN FOR *YEARS*? I'll tell you the answer. Time! Plain and simple, late night shows need time to build their fanbases! And Conan wasn't given any time...plain and simple!

Understand? The more time you have to find success with the show, the higher your ratings, which Conan never got, and THAT'S why Conan was fired.

  • @xxjohnandersonxx

Oh I see, there is a positive correlation between funny and ratings. I understand now. I'm glad you did the research on this. It's actually quite amazing that you were able to give something as subjective as humor a quantifiable value. Incredible work. I'm just thankful you broke this down subjectively for us to understand. Can you believe I thought it was more complex than this? Boy am I dummy. Thanks again.

  • Don't you think there's some correlation between funny and ratings? Sure humor is subjective, but don't you think audience ratings are a good indication of the host's sense of humor?

If "funny" is so unimportant, why is there a monologue? Why not just bring guests on and ask simple questions or even have a news show at that hour?

  • It isn't so much that ratings are a indicator of a host's humor, but rather a host's appeal which is gained over time. Conan has a great sense of humor and enjoys doing things off the cuff more than being overly structured like Jay. He is zanier and this showed during his tenure at Late Night, but as host of the Tonight Show he knew that he had to change his approach. He had endured low ratings for years at Late Night before finally finding his voice, and no doubt could have done so again.

  • ob7934, I can accept what you said and it is very well said. And you're right, appeal is the key word. Letterman is sometimes mean and rude to his guests, whereas Leno and Conan never do (did) the same to their guests.

But I have to say that even though Jimmy Fallon is a nice guy, he is just not at all funny and he almost appears to be uncomfortable as a host.

  • Also, Conan had a great deal to overcome:

    1. Winning over an audience that was used to Jay from the past 17 years.

    2. Adapting his unique sense of humor to a new arena and audience at Tonight.

    3. Being relegated once again as Jay's follow-up act hardly 4 months into his tenure, with promotion for the J.L. Show much earlier than that, undermining his role as the new host of Tonight.

    4. Suffering lower ratings after the J.L. Show hit the air, when he had held his own during the summer.

  • ob7934, you make some excellent points again! Nice job. I'm beginning to think that Conan may have eventually turned his numbers around.

  • Thanks! Of course I'm not trying to make every point an anti-Leno point as it might seem but a lot of the circumstances around the situation do deal with him, or at least with how NBC managed the two of them. I'd like to think the Tonight Show franchise is still bigger than any one host, and that it was time for a fresh face on there, but we'll see what happens from here. I do wonder who will replace Leno eventually...I can't think of anyone right now who would be appropriate for the job.

  • It's not that funny is unimportant, it's that when it comes to late night shows the audience and the host have to adapt to one another. It's an evolutionary process which by virtue means that it takes time to find success. If you haven't already, I would watch him as a guest on Inside the Actors' Studio, just so you might get a better feel for him, why his sense of humor is the way it is, his views on the history of Tonight, and how he enjoys engaging the audience rather than spoon-feeding them.

  • ob7934, I will watch him on Inside the Actors Studio. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

  • we miss Coco!

  • wow. almost cried. hah.

  • The most popular talkshow here in Norway has 1.000.000 viewers. Thats 20% of our population, and 50% of the viewers that are watching tv primetime. That's what I call a success. Rating 8.000.000 (and 4.000,000 for Letterman?) in a country with close to 300.000.000 people is not what I would call a hit show.

  • It depends on the number of shows you could choose from. I guess there might be a little wider range of shows in the US than in Norway. By keeping that in mind, I guess you could say 8.000.000 out of 300.000.000 people watching your show could be considered a quite sucessfull thing.

  • @helgedell Wow a lot of people watch TV in Norway.

  • I gotta say, Conan wasn't as funny when he moved to LA. Did he know that it was gonna be that bad? Did he have a choice? Why did he move? Half of his humor was about complaining about people being asleep while his show was on. So why did he move?

  • this is fuckin bullshit! leno fuckin sucks ass and stupid ass jimmy sucks ass. jimmy is a fuckin fag who rips this show off and isnt even funny. conan for life man! hes the damn best and the nicest and most funny. this is fuckin bullshit. put conan back on!

  • Conan's great! I do think hehe tried a different approach or something when he took the tonight show, i'm guessing under the pressure. i felt he wasn't going about it in his style. same thing happened when he took over Letterman's old show(late night), took him a little bit to find his niche/comfort zone, but eventually made it his own. There was a stark contrast between him on the previous show and the tonight show, i think he would've found his place there like he had with his previous show.

  • what an amazing guy

  • kinda sad that i started watching these late shows because of conan

gonna mis his uniqueness and classy kind of comedy

  • ma rly gonna miss this guy....

it's rly true that the good guy's finish last :(

  • Why'd they kick Conan anyway? Why not Leno? I mean the people liked Conan more than Leno didn't they, Leno sucks ass, I don't see why they kept Leno and kicked Conan at all.

  • It was cause the views for the show went down A LOT after they did the switch up.

  • can't wait for the Conan show in the 7/11 parking lot :)

  • hes got a new gig on Twitter now :P he hasnt posted anything today tho :(

  • still miss him and his comedic ways.

  • when i was 12 i saw conan and he inspired me to want to be a talk show host. a weird dream at that young age... that dream i think is probably gone now, but hes still my favorite host and hes probably one of the coolest people in show business

  • Aw, c'mon. The Tonight Show has been dead in the water on any sort of creative level since Carson retired, good ratings or not. If Leno is actually someone's idea of funny anymore, I hope they enjoyed their frontal lobotomy. Conan isn't everybody's cup of tea, but he is a decent and classy guy and this message is a good one- he could have wasted these last minutes on self aggrandizing bullshit, but he chose the high road.

  • Conan...class act..too good for that mess of a network..he took the high road, and it may ultimately be the best choice he will ever make..can't wait for your next act Conan!

  • I can't picture Leno ever doing this to his

FANS, if he still has any left.

  • A great man miss you allready conan

  • he is such a class act.

  • TEAM CONAN!

  • I miss Conan. His last 30 seconds were inspirational. Thank you Conan O'Brien.

  • carnaco2 go suck cum off a donkey

  • you just dont know... to say conan o'brien is untalented doesnt even make me angry, because i know you're just so wrong... jay would agree with me

  • One word sums up the fabulous Mr. O'Brien: CLASS.

  • A darn shame he had to leave. I really wonder how Jay sleeps at night.

  • i always look forward to watching ur shows...i personally thought you were funnier then Jay Leno. Hope to see you again making more shows with a better company.

  • Conan, you are a class act

  • Damnit!!!!!!!!!!! His hair is awesome!! I liked the moleculo man skit!!!! Great stuff!!

  • He's a Great Man.!

  • Every time I watch this I want to cry. He is the most kind hearted man that I've ever known to be on television. Whatever you choose to do next Coco, I am behind you 110%.

  • good luck Conan sooner or later idiots on nbc will realize what a a big mistake they done keeping oldtimer leno and his lame 70s jokes that makes people only yawn and streach out of boredom.

I dont hate Jay I just think its unfair and its wrong.

Leno time has passed thats what I think.

  • jay leno aint got shit on this man, cant wait till september

  • and thus ended The Tonight Show...

  • Conan is z man dooot!!!!!!!

  • Jay Leno could only dream of making a speech like this sound real and sincere.

  • What a classy speech! Some great advice.

Conan is the voice of a new wave of late-night hosts in our generation and it's a shame that NBC cheated him out of his dream job. Stay strong Co-Co, we'll always be there for you!

  • Class act. The man could've slammed everyone and anyone...he could've revealed some nasty secrets. He could've done so many things. But, he just thanked everyone humbly and genuinely. I cannot wait to see what Conan O'Brien will do next and I will be there to support him.

  • Jay Leno is a pussy, Conan ftw!

  • Conan was the only Tonight show that was actoully funny, about 10 mins ago I was watching J leno and I was Realy really Disapointed with that it

  • Carson was pretty funny himself. Look up "Carnac," you'll see some pretty funny segments from that.

  • I grew up watching Conan. I think I've always loved his show because he was, and is, sincerely humble and sweet. If you notice throughout his years as a talk show host, he never made fun of his guests. He always made fun of himself.

  • wow i actually cried

    i love conan. a lot.

  • Thank You* Conan! Best Wishes* We Love You*and your Staff*****Slas* :)

  • I love conan so much,i cannot believe after only 7 months he had to go.I have been watching his show since the 6th grade and now im 19....I LOVE U CONAN!!!

  • Just wait for CoCo to come to your door...he knows where you live...XD

  • Conan just has to be the coolest person u can ever meet.

Best TV host ever!! he made me cry on his last episode!

i'll miss him, but im sure he'll be back soon and he'll own!!!

  • Conan is the classiest guy on TV.

I hope he comes back stronger than ever.

    Work Hard and Be Kind.

  • I hate Letterman.....regardless....this was an awesome speech. He got real emotional, and the bit about being cynical is amazing, it really moved me. THANKS FOR THE LAUGHS CONAN!

  • Wow, Conan has some sage wisdom coming on in his older age. Very cool and heartfelt. Leno will be crushed by his own foolishness soon anyways. Same with Leno's "administration" Conan will be on better ground than even Letterman in a few seasons! Peace thanks for the vid.

  • i agree with Conan about NBC but i will always and from now boycott there network not because im cynical but because of justice. NBC had no right to do what they did to Conan. they promised him time to put his feet down and they didn't deliver and many more things they did shame on NBC. BOYCOTT NBC NOW

  • What a classy guy! I hope he gets another show...

  • The Once and Future King...of Late Night...

The Tonight Show is a hallmark institution and I believe we'll see Conan behind that desk once again.

  • I don't know about that, but I think Leno failing at 11:35 in NBC's current state is inevitable.

  • I can't believe they kept Leno and let O'Brien slip through their fingers. I am old enough to have watched live airings of The Tonight Show with Carson, and was a regular viewer. I gave Leno a shot when he took over, but frankly, he's not funny.. at all.. When Conan got the spot, I started watching again. He may be the only talk show host in history to go toe-to-toe with Robin Williams and come out unscathed

With Leno, they once more lose my eyeballs. Horrendously incompetent management

  • You're an idiot.. Leno is fucking terrible.

  • his final words are words to live by. Be good and amazing things will happen

  • From what I can see, it's not NBC. It's not even Jay's fault... It's the ratings. Who makes the ratings? the viewers. After watching this clip, I really wish I could have taken the time to watch the one late night show host who had the most charisma and wit I've ever seen since Johnny Carson. This is what the majority wanted. And what can we say about the majority? Moronic, baby hueys, closed minded, afraid of change... Never thought that this would happen to somone like Conan.

  • In all honesty, I think Conan should've had a better chance with "The Tonight Show". No one can top Johnny Carson and that's a fact, but Conan O' Brien, I think he did a wonderful job. I just think NBC was too greedy to keep Jay Leno, and I say Conan should've had a better shot with The Tonight Show, he really should've.

  • you can learn alot from a great man...

" if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen"

The quote of the century!! thank you Conan

  • I'm going to cry!

  • Fuck NBC. I wont watch Leno.

  • Coco Rules The world

  • nbc fucked up conan is one of the best !!! leno should be ashamed to show his big fucken jaw back on the tonight show!

  • conan went out with class...

    take note leno.

  • 3:25

  • That part gets me.

  • Love Conan!!!!! This makes me cry to watch. NBC let a huge talent walk away.

  • guys follow conan on twitter ConanOBrien

  • i love conan.. i hope he gets a new show.. does anybody have an update on him?

  • He has a twitter account now. @conanobrien. Twitter verified that it is actually him.

  • He is likely to pick up a show on the Fox network. That station's viewers are a lot younger, and will prove to do Conan good.

  • Watching this reinforces my love for Conan—he's such a smart, witty guy, and you can't watch this video without feeling all his kindness oozing through the screen. What a classy, classy man. Can't wait to see him in whatever he does next. If he's doing a show in the 7/11 parking lot, rest assured that I'll be there watching with the millions of other people who love him. Consie forever!

  • poor conan, doesnt deserve this. when conan swithced to the tonight show, the only thing that shouldve been diffrent is the time.

  • Oh I almost Forgot, Conan Fans Using Firefox, Should get the Conan O'Brien Persona on it, personas are basically skins for the web browser

  • Conan is the best talk show host I've ever seen, Leno on the other hand has lost my respect.

    God Bless Conan, He's Hilarious!

  • A true class act, ladies and gentlemen.

    "CIRCLE!!!! CIRCLE!!!! CIRCLE!!!!"

  • CLASS METER

    Conan = 10

    NBC = -10

    Leno = -20

  • Conan has always been my favorite, and when he choked up at the end I really felt like shit

    ;(

  • Wow...So emotional :(

    I love you Cocco!!!

  • Wow, what an awesome, amazing inspiring guy. Class act. I wish him all the best in the future.

  • idk how jay leno is gunna follow this up..

he's a really hated guy right now.

  • leno can go and fuck himself! conan rules

  • Conan for president!!

  • Fuck Leno

  • i really hope that he will come backk..

    u got my respect!

    Finns want u back!

  • great guy

  • Classy........it brought me to tears and i cant wait to see him on again wherever it is!!!

  • Comment removed

  • how classy is this guy, he could have easily bashed NBC...but no, he thx them...i almost cried, almost...you can tell this was truly from the heart and not scripted like tiger woods

  • I could listen to this speech ALL day!

  • You know what Conan should do? He should host his own independent live show in the web. No limits, no networks bossing around - he could go by his own schedule.

    I would bookmark and watch.

  • that's what alot of ppl are saying! that WOULD be interesting! And he pioneer this whole shows on the web. hmmmmm................

  • Comment removed

  • Conan Rules! I can't wait for him to be back! Andy and Max too!

  • Just a class act through and through.

  • Beautiful speech...amazes me how people still support Jay Leno when it's so evident that Conan is a much better comedian and a truly better person.

    GO COCO!

  • In all their years, Jay Leno and Johnny Carson spent trying to make a single unforgettable performance on the tonight show, after 7 months Conan O'Brien achieved this with one, sincere, heartfelt speech that left all those who loved and hated him with at least a measurable amount or respect.

  • I agree with you 110%, and I'm sure millions of others would too. He had the perfect opportunity to bash NBC, but instead, he closes with an unforgettable, emotional speech that makes you respect him more.

  • he might as well retire, he's rich... I would

  • And quite brilliant. That's the indignant thing about how some people view Conan, they see his antics and have him pegged as a silly man, they don't look at his life's work (even in his youth, before he became a professional) and realise what a truly unique and bright person he is. I wish I were fortunate enough to have some of his remarkable traits. No, he's obviously not the greatest thing to ever grace earth and he's not dying, but he does deserve respect and recognition.

  • Wonderfully said. It just isn't the same without these guys making me laugh every night.

  • @groseron

He's obviously tearing up at the end and the message he got across was something I hope people take to heart.

Conan is a comedic genius, but beyond that he's a good human being and that's the part that's sad........Conan is everything that Jay Leno is NOT.

  • It would be SUCH a privilege to know personally!

  • he doesn't do it for the money, he does it cause he loves it

  • @stringdance3000 yes, that is what many people don't understand.

  • Yeah, and ppl don't realize that he is supplementing some of his crews salary for the next 6 weeks or beyond. Especially those who weren't covered in the lawsuit.

Btw, checkout my channel! I have alot of Coco videos =)

  • @stringdance3000 Nice channel, I'll be sure to check the videos out for some CoCo fun! :D

  • every farewells are depressed and sad oppressed

  • FUCK jay leno. what a bastard

  • to call leno a bastard is an unsult to all bastards.

  • aww im gonna miss him :(

i hope he gets a new show soon <3

  • Amazing speech.

  • Conan is truly a class act. I can't wait to watch his new show, wherever it may be!

  • i love conan, hes so funny and im so sad )):

  • i stopped watching tv, its not worth watching anymore

  • i only turned on teh tv to watch him

  • I love you conan

  • jay leno does really suck... Kimmel isn't too bad.. but yeh Conan was great

  • Conan was the best there will be no better talk show host then him ...

and for the record i really hate jay leno

not funny and very boring ...

  • Leno will never get the ratings he enjoyed before this huge mess him and NBC created, Conan was, in my opinion, the better of the two. Conan WILL find another gig, he's too good to simply slide into the past. When he does expect him to dominate the late night airwaves for a very, very long time. Maybe a new block on Fox or taking over the 10-11 slot on Adult Swim, i think he would do awesome in any thing he decides to do. Team Conan!

  • asarotiv i totally agree with you

  • Jay Leno is an old perv, something ive been noticing the last couple of y
