It kind of makes me laugh that people talk about how much they love Charlotte on this video but this song was a hit before she was in the band. And 1977 was their best album and she wasn't there for most of it!!! I do really like Charlotte but Ash were great before her too!

This song takes me back to the summer of 96 when I was in my 2nd year at uni..I'd just started getting into Ash and I found this single at a local 2nd hand record shop.

I think i remember hearing the song was originally about the 'girl from Ards', a place Wheeler spent a holiday when he was younger. Obviously she was a girl who he met there, but the lyric was changed to Mars for poetic licence and to make it more universally identifiable as a metaphor.
