  • I think YT is a great place to visit interesting people & meet new ones other than your own friends/family. Just wish I had more time for this. Mary

  • that last comment was a bit rude! anyway, in a survey, it was said that people believe and learn more from youtube then they do by a newspaper!

  • Heres the one fucking reason.... you need a better fucking hobby. Grow a garden. and you can go ahead argue but deep down.....you know -.-

  • There are so many reasons why people youtube. You have to explore your own motives. I see you as a person who has things he would like to share with the younger generations, things that we probably need to know. You look at the world around you and it's not pretty, hopefully you can pass on some of the wisdom you have gained in the years of your life and make the world a little better. That's how I see you. Can you get lost in pursuing that goal and seek fame? yes, so keep your eyes on the goal.

  • Great video - made a lot of good sense.

  • All humans are social beings - hence our desire to communicate and be heard. I think , " You Tube ", and other social networks are merely a 21st century manifestation of this ancient inate desire to reach out to others.

You Tube, in my humble opinion, would be a poorer place without you Geriatric1927. As Oscar Wilde, so cleverly once said: " The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about ".

Looking forward to your next post / broadcast.

  • Two very wise men. Why not meet people around the world that you probably would never meet. It's interesting, and better then watching the mind numbing TV. We can learn from each other.

    Lynn

  • Interesting... Michael says people need to know how to write to post "tweets" on Twitter. I was under the impression that most of those who "tweet" on Twitter are somewhat dyslexic.

  • The reason i post videos to youtube is simple, because its fun and you can find out most anything you want, just type in what you need to know and some one will tell you.

  • hi Peter, i hope you're now feeling better. just keep your videos flowing and disregard those people who loves alienating other happy people with their bashing comments.

    cheers!

  • By the way Geriatric 1927, your videos are very helpful to me and give me a lot of interesting insight into things. They help me sort things out sometimes.

  • There are so many reasons to be on youtube or to watch youtube. I find that people behave a little more uninhibited on youtube than in real life but I think that people do on youtube what they would do in real life or what they would LIKE to do in real life. For example I have always wanted to teach people to sew. Now I do, on YouTube. A side benefit is that people write to me and thank me and tell me how much they appreciate my videos.

  • Its called follow the leader. "But all my friends have myspace and twitter accounts." I mean you don't want to be a individual now do you? I have a youtube account have for a while. That is so I can post as I am now. I posted one video since I joined. I do not need attention. That's the other reason people are on here. There is a 3rd reason also. Fame, hoping to make it in television, movies, etc. Like, Shane dawson, Asa the comic, Brandon Hardesty to name a few.

  • You are such a lovely man. I'm so glad I came across your channel. It's so very nice to meet you.

  • I think each of us has our own reasons for doing this. My reasons keep changing :)

  • Why feel guilty about looking for love or acceptance? There are plenty of other things to feel guilty about. I don't see you trying to harm yourself or others, so I say keep doing what you're doing and save your guilt for other things lol

  • LMFAO!! AT THE "bloody hell look at the pirated video behind him" LMFAO!

  • i don't see you as craving love and attention, I bless you for sharing your life with me, and I'm eternally grateful for every video you have posted, it's not hard to see why people would give you such love and affection, your'e just a lovely great guy

  • PositiveSue is ugly and pathetic.

  • People in general crave attention and even more they want to feel important. When people react to their videos it makes them feel important. Also we are social creatures so it is natural for us to seek out others. YouTube and Facebook are just channels for all this activity.

  • You make me smile :)

  • My conservative estimate is that YT is 99.99% about ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION, but there's still that 0.001% (or much less) of the genuine folks (like yourself, Peter) who do have some substance to offer :)

  • Uhm, 0.01% I meant there, but yeah..

  • I am always a fan of going back to bed.

  • bloody hell look at all those pirated dvd's behind him

  • :eyeroll: Yeah, right, he is running around getting pirated DVDs.

  • well what do you think they are? you honestly think he has that much software

  • Peter -- It's an adventure. We don't know what's is going to add up to. It's up to US to be wise and make something of this.

  • I think that i am a better person for have found your videos. they make me think of my own life and how i live it. i also think that communication is in our nature, the use of the internet has allowed us reach out to people all over the world. the more people we can help the better.

  • Twitter is the most pointless thing ever.

  • I would like to be able to meet people on YouTube around the world and make connections with the sort of people I may never run into in "real life". I'm so scared to "vlog" and show my face to the thousands of anonymous people on the internet though! How did you get the courage to do it?

  • There is a LOT of trash on youtube, but there are a few gems! The cream always rises! This is my favorite YT channel because it's different than almost anything else out there. It's honest and real and personal, not attention-seeking! You made real friends and connections through YT and reached an audience of all ages around the world. You really brighten my day, please don't stop making videos! They make me so very happy. I hope you have a better day tomorrow!

  • I do it for entertainment and information-and occasionally I run into really wonderful sites like yours. That's worth all the sorting through the inane trash out there these days. Always a fan, silvertimer

  • I think the interaction between people on YT is what many of us appreciate. It's certainly not childish to wish to communicate with others or to open up new avenues of communicating which are available to us now which were not just a generation ago.

It's also good to hear views which may be at odds with your own now and again where it is done respectfully and without malice.

Yes, there are trashy videos uploaded purely for views, but those who post them don't last long.

  • Peter, I'm a member of a minority where I live. A lot of people will never accept us. Yes, it can be depressing sometimes.

But we can never be loved or accepted by everyone. The same applies to politics, and to your situation. Please don't be downhearted because some folks don't 'get it'.

When your name pops up on my subscription list my day is made much better. Thanks, pal.

  • Youtube is 99% crap, especially now any idiot can upload at the touch of a button from their cellphone. But what makes it worthwhile is the 1% of good content from the people such as yourself who make interesting videos. Thankfully the subscription system makes it possible to select the people you like to watch, while ignoring all the dross. Personally I thought the drunk in a supermarket was funny, but I saw it on Liveleak, not YouTube.

  • Ah lighten up.

  • guilty?! come on sir, that is silly!

digital interaction is AWESOME, and WE all know it.

obviously alot of people - especially of the older generation - do not 'get it' and they dismiss it with simple explanations, like 'childish attention seeking' etc.

but some may say such narrow-mindedness is pretty childish!

obviously there is far far more to it than that.

i've had some wonderful times here in cyberspace...nothing to be ashamed about.

  • It's the same old story Peter. We need a place to call our own, where we can build the kind of community we want, where we can respect and be respected if that's what we want. We are just at the beginning.

  • I've learned a bit from watching your channel, Peter. There is no need to feel guilty for exposing people to blues music and ox tail stew.

  • Your friend talks a lot of sense Peter :)

  • If the internet seems childish it is only because today's adults didn't have it as the younger generations have.

I guarantee just like kids today in forty or fifty years all demographics will use the internet, some sporadically, others (just like today) excessively..

  • Excellent video, Peter. One of your most interesting and thought provoking.

Despite it being frustrating at times, I am pro social networking. I've met in person many interesting people from different parts of the world that I've met originally through social networking.

Infact, I'm due to get married next year to an American lady that I met in MySpace!

  • Wow how I would love to write a day off and go back to bed!

  • Peter, I tend to think it's just a matter of being social, whether it's just on line or in everyday life. We on youtube and other sites tend to be primarily the social type. I pass people on the street in public and they oten tend to be antisicial. heck, most can't even speak or nod. It only take a minute to say good day. I suspect those antisocial types are the ones not using this modern form of communication. I feel better about myself when I am friendly towards others. Good Post 5*

  • Well yes, you should look for attention because if your words go unheard, then it's useless. However, you don't seek attention for attention's sake, you are looking for someone to listen to your words, not necessarily for your words to be heard. The center is on another person listening to you, not on the words by themselves. I hope that makes sense.

  • How different is this than the old "Pen Pals" we used to have in the 50s and 60s? You get to meet people from all over the world and see lots of different cultures. One thing that I've noticed is that people who were ignorant of how other people lived have now become aware that people are just people, in spite of other geography and cultures. You are an ambassador both to people outside of the UK but also to the young- you let them see that we're still active even after we're wrinkled! :)

  • I come here because I value what Peter has to offer and say.

  • I will email you, not enough room in a comment for what I want to say.

    Hugs,

    Michael

  • Nothing wrong with the reaching out. Guilty, oh come on now, I think you are having one of your "blue" days. You are an inspiration and hopefully you get inspired as well from us. I love to travel and everytime I am on here other others like it.... I take a small trip to their country or their town. You learn so much and never really think about it. Chin up. Push on with a good attitude.

  • Peter, don't let morons get you down.

  • hi peter, i think that you should not feel guilty about showing interesting, informative, reflective and amusing features on facebook. I think that facebook and youtube is a good way to interact and i think also that people seek you out because you have a wise and broadened view of the world. these days i think with some, the family grouping is not so frequent, and this way i tune into your videos and listen to you as a grandchild would do. i hope you feel better tomorrow x

  • not everything on youtube is silly, i see some good & helpful technical articals among other things on here

  • Get a good rest, all nights are not restful unfortunately! As there are a multitude of personalities, there are a multitude of posts. Some want to be funny, others to share knowledge and some to sell and profit. It depends on your frame of mind that day, maybe you need a good laugh or looking for guidance on a topic unfamiliar. Free expression is a wonderful thing and thats how I see the Tube. Unique expression. Hope tomorrow brings refeshment! Peace~

  • The main reason I like YouTube is that it shows the talents of people without the filters of network television, etc. The world of celebrity is astonishingly small considering how big the world is, but one could easily believe that only a few hundred people are worthy of being watched and listened to. The same 20 people show up in People magazine or in the blockbuster movies and that somehow represents creativity. In fact, everyone is creative to some degree, and that should be celebrated.

  • Peter, I've wondered much the same thing about folks aspiring to garner as many views as possible, etc., but in large part I believe that at the crux of electronic media is everyone's need to interact with our fellow man. It seems only natural that as the more traditional ways have continued to evaporate (letter-writing, porch-sitting, family get-togethers), we try to fill the gaps in our gregarious natures. It's likely that as digital media grows out of infancy, the silliness will diminish.

  • Hope you feel better soon Grandpa.. Take Care

  • Your videos are wonderful, Peter! I look forward to them. I hope you feel better tomorrow. (:

  • We all can write, speak, draw, dance. Media are paper, phone, internet or in person. How we use all that is part of our free will whether we are sage, fool, or somewhere in between.

I see Youtube as a tool to make us all closer, for better or worse. I also see it as an historical record that could be of use in the distant future.

    Good vid !

  • I'd say 99% of people who watch the kind of funny viral video which gets hundreds of thousands of views will come, watch it and then leave and never return to the channel. You have a solid few thousand people who care about what you say and enjoy your videos. It's quality not quantity :)

  • ★★★★★

  • :o( I hope tomorrow brings a brighter day for you.

Please dont let the detritous that can fill YouTube up sometimes get you down.

  • Good video Peter - I hope you feel better tomorrow :)

  • Dear Peter,

you should not chase so much for views. The thing about youtube is not so much who is the most viewed, it´s about the community. Hope you get better tomorrow.

    Best wishes 05BandaNera

  • I can respect the general older generations point of view but I wouldn't let your friends put you or any of us down, we enjoy it, we don't hurt anyone, and some of us find ways to do charity with it. i have a pretty healthy social life and use facebook as well, but i think bad media presentation has spawned the view that new technology is for the young, and counterproductive to their growing up, and i agree that it is about expressing yourself and appreciating other peoples work

  • I saw the drunk guy in the store video, very sad.

He must be in a lot of pain to get himself in that state to want to blot out everything around him.

I think part of why it has received so many views is because a lot people watch these for a laugh without seeing the flip side of that guys situation. Also there is that viewpoint that basically makes you think thank god thats not me. Sad but true.

  • I thought the same thing. It was really scary to me, and it seemed to me like it was maybe something more like LSD or some other hallucenogen rather than just alcohol that put him in that state. He was making some weird movements. It may have been terrifying for him, or maybe he was in fact drunk and just totally out of it. Who knows. But it worries and saddens me that so many people get a kick out of seeing someone like that. He's not a clown, he's a human being with a serious problem.

  • I think that a man of your generation has more reason than anyone else to be here on YouTube or on other social networking sites, because you have experience and wisdom to share with the world. How better to do it? We love to hear your points of view, and I never thought it was a grab for attention, at all, but just an enjoyment of interacting with the community.

  • Great video
