This is wonderful... Brian Jones was playing lead on Tell Me... although taken out later... :( "Tell Me" was a Brian Jones lead... This is very rare! Many thanks for the upload!
OK, the third song is on a YouTube post called "Rolling Stones - Not Fade Away (The Mike Douglas Show 1964)", and it is live, and unfortunately once again Keith is the Marcel Marceau of guitar players, moving around and playing but barely audible, making him look quite geeky, like some wiped-out "air guitarist" that snuck on to the set. Maybe the Mike Douglas show didn't have the budget for an extra microphone for his amplifier.
The mix was pretty poor on "Oh Carol". You can't hear Keith. It improves considerably when they switch to lip-syncing on "Tell Me"...I guess they didn't want to take any chances on their current record! I wonder what their next song was, and if they played it live? It's pretty obvious that they haven't got their sea-legs yet for appearing on the television at this early stage in their careers. Poor Keef looks lost up there.
Brian played the main riff on "The Last Time" and the almost buried in the mix motif on "Get Off Of My Cloud" but that does not make him a lead guitarist per se. Even before the conclusion of the Aftermath sessions in early '66 Brian had lost interest in guitar. Consequently, much to Keith's chagrin (as he always envisioned the Stones as a 2 guitar band) Keith had to play virtually all the guitar parts on "Aftermath", "Between the Buttons" and "Satanic Majesties". by overdubbing Brian's parts.
I You will find if you listen, watch and read that Keith played nearly all the lead parts except for the slide which was Brian's forte. It is well documented that Keith was the lead player on every single Chuck Berry cover and almost every other song that does not have slide or harp as a feature. I have been a massive Brian Jones fan for as long as I can remember but he was not the lead guitarist for the Stones. Keith played virtually all the guitar parts on Stones records after early '66.
Brian hides behind show’s host. Shy? No! It's charm. He knows has Sex Appeal. There are 6 guys on stage, but the girls going for him…they wanted to shake hands with Brian. Relaxed, he jokes with with the barbers starving, Charles and Mick (Oh! Mick is more popular with men), with the girls. The other boys were totally shy at that time. I believe: Brian was ahead of his time and had more insight and intense than the rest of them. No wonder why they begin hate him. Tks for sharing, great video.
@bloderme u are so wrong!I got the tami show and almost all ed sullivan perf. on tape-he was rhythm except when it came to slide guitar and the main riff on the last time!Watch,on everything else he is rhythm! There is no shame in that! As,John Lennon said-its an important job!
@bloderme Again you are so wrong Brian was rhythm besides when he played slide,or the main lick on the next time.I have all of the sullivan appearences and the circus-he was rhthym and as John Lennon said it is an important job!

I'm glad Brian stepped-up next to Mick when the interview began. The founder of The Rolling Stones will live forever!
