Dear Clowns, Refrain from sullying the comments with your try-hard explanation of Leglocks and Judo. It was a joke, clearly your comprehension skills are sub-par.
It took me a few tries but i can now do the sliding foot lock, i just don't know how much use it'll be looks badass but im tryna modify it too be a bit quicker a bit safer
That sliding foot lock is fucking bad ass. and it's just awesome that if it's on an Imanari DVD you know it works. Not like some untested bullshit self defense video like there's tons around.
@UmekiABSOLUTE thats not correct. Sambo and BJJ guys do the majority of leglocks, however they are still practiced in kata form in kodokan judo although i'm unsure of what the kosen guys do
That is completely backwards, No foot or leglocks whatsoever are legal in judo, and while most serious BJJ practitioners know leglocks, few judo people do (unless they come from sambo). In BJJ ankle locks are legal in all categories and for brown and blackbelts you may also do kneebars and toeholds. (Locks that twist the knee such as heelhooks are banned in competition.) The reason it's not taught more is because BJJ emphasizes position before submission and passing the guard.
@letsfightinglove00 small correction: no leg locks locks in white belt division, ankle lock locks allowed at blue belt, kneebars at brown, not even sure toe holds are allowed.
@laokon You're misinformed. You are allowed to do the ankle lock as a white belt, including the version from when someone has your back and crosses their feet. It is tricky to know the rules (the written ones can't be trusted), but this is according to IBJJF rules seminars. You may not cross your outside leg over the center of the other person's belly, though (neither at white nor black belt). As for toe holds, like I said, they're legal from brown and up.
@UmekiABSOLUTE wrong, BJJ applies leglocks kneebars slicers and footlocks, in competition leglocks and foot locks are forbidden to blue belts except for the straight foot lock (no heel hooks), purple belts can use them both and in some cases only blackbelts, in submission grappling all leglocks and foot locks are legal...as i can remember, maybe i need to read the competition rules for BJJ and grappling again, since i hasn't fought bjj or no gi in a while, just MMA :)
@UmekiABSOLUTE i dont remember any judoka doing a foot lock in a competition or MMA, judo guys mostly use armbars (juji gatame, to use the japanese term) and chokes (shime waza)
@ronzzo45 well technically any grappling art that extsensively uses submissions has practioners that use leglocks it all really depends on the teachers preference and what technuiqes you are exposed to
No offense to the guy who said master of leg lock but you are way wrong. He is doing a jujitsu style straight ankle which in comparison to the Sambo style straight ankle, or any Sambo leg lock is way weak.
@sumoshinobi Looking at this video i can tell you he would be much more effective if he would rotate his knee and point the opponents knee to the ground then it would be much better. Jujitsu as it is does not emphasize leg submissions like Sambo does... look up Riley Bodycomb
@TEXASgrappler72390 I have Reilly's videos on leglocks and his new Dynamic Entry DVD. He actually got his rolling entry leglock from Imanari and said so in the first leglock DVD. Since Jiu Jitsu doesn't cover leg locks as extensively, Imanari may have also learned CACC, which covers ALL joint locks indescriminately. Either way, he makes it enjoyable to watch. Same with Reilly.
@TEXASgrappler72390 are you kidding? Reilly's awesome to watch. Stephen Koepfer who was Reilly's grappling coach when he was in New York, has videos here on Youtube as well under SamboSteve. You'll benefit from watching either one of them in action.
@CrimsonShaka Oh i already subscribe to SamboSteve. My instructor learned under Sambo Steves west coast counter part. i am a huge Sambo advocate. Right now i am training about to get a Brown Belt in Sambo, and i am working with Jay Pages in phoenix. If you get a chance look him up. He is doing a lot for the game
Notice at 2:00 how he bumps then gets the knee in between. This is different from the way most people do deep. I really like the idea it gives a lot of options.
i like the instructors techniques (the flare makes them aesthetically pleasing) but the triangle this guy had on him was crazy weak. It was loose as hell.
Hey, they all pass through that point on the way to locking down. If they lock a triangle down on you, then you've already screwed up and throwing on a cool footlock might be a few notches down your list of priorities. Either way, most triangle escapes put you in a fine place do work that submission.

This foo will someday get his ass stomped on if he misses the sliding heel hook. Thats why i like to go for the takedowns and then for arm bars or triangles.
He did get kneed pretty hard by Jocharim Hansen, but that was just in trying to shoot for a single. He's slapped the heel hook on at least twice in MMA, and scored a flying armbar off of a jump kick in Cage Rage.
Yeah, he's pretty much my submission hero. I've used a few of his leglock settings training, and people are always amazed. "Where did you learn that?!" Me: "Uh, YouTube ... kinda."
i do both have a notebook that i bring to the gym for reference and i have a file on my computer that i keep all the urls in. i normally spend about 30 mins a day watching different videos and taking notes.

@UmekiABSOLUTE Leglocks are forbidden in modern competition Judo. Leglocks are allowed in Sambo
Villis2010 7 months ago
@UmekiABSOLUTE No that isnt correct, the straight leglock, kneebar and variations of those are in BJJ.
Besides that, Judo doesnt allow leglocks on any level of competition.
I sparred with Olympic champ Mark Huizinga several times, I cant even grab his arms for an armbar, but I can tap him with leglocks.
