I'm real sick of people dissing Tim Burton just because his Alice in Wonderland wasn't "dark" as people expected. American Mcgee's first Alice game came out way before Tim Burton even made his new Alice movie so one the idea was taken and two both Alice's have unique and wonderfully creative ideas, and are great in each of they're own ways. Weather it was dark or not doesn't matter, it was still artistic, and this game is just as artistic as well.

I only played his game for a couple days when my brother brought his xbox360 but I have to say the parts in the paintings are a pain in the ass man! And The best way in my opinion to kill those samurai bee things is with the horse xD And I would love to see more walk throughs with games like this from you xD Oh! To answer your question, I's say it's neither. I am pretty sure of what I read about American McGee(who seems like a pretty open minded fella) that he made this game to entertain, period. And not with any gender in mind. Which is how it is supposed to be IMO. I don't see why guys let this stuff get to them. If you like something, just enjoy it and fuck the media stereotypes. Most of them are inaccurate and damaging our society anyway. Guys and girls are different, but not THAT different.

The game gets fairly dark at times, and I think it was designed for just a older crowd anyways. Wonderland going to hell and deformed babies that turn into trains and spit fire, or gigantic menacing rabbits/madhatters trying to kill her kind of emphasize that.

I don't think there should be any such thing as "gender biased gaming". Every girl or guy has their preferences as to what they like to play. I am a female gamer who enjoys everything from Call Of Duty to Silent Hill and everything in between. Play what you like and what you enjoy. The reason why any people like to say this game is only for girls is because Alice is wearing a modest dress. We all know Lara Croft is female, but no one says that game series is for girls because she wears outfits designed to woo the male audience. Having said all that, this is not a female game. Its a game for all who would like to see a shift from first person shooters.
men and women like the game and the alice series, each for their own reasons. some men have an alice fetish. and some girls wanna be alice (if that makes sense). either way, the alice series is targeted for every audience not one in specific. at least that's how the novels were like. so i'm guessing the game follows the same ideal. alice is female so you will see feminine aspects in the game. but it is not enough to make a man feel uncomfortable to play it

I love 2D levels. I got the game but did not know about it till I got up to this part. This is not a Girls game. My friend who is Male has this game too. No he is not Gay lol. what I got from the Alice in Wonderland story originally. These games only emphasize on that. This Alice game is beautifully done. The graphics and score are amazing and anyone that can't appreciate that needs to widen their mind when it comes to gameplaying. Not everyone wants to play first shooter games all the time.
The Alice games are unisex. The score for the first Alice game was done by NIN. This is not technically a "female oriented/targeted" band. So I think they did that to bring in male players to the game. The score was awesome for the first Alice game done by them. I think this Alice game is 10x better than the first Alice which was still good but this one is sooo much better. I think it is good for both females and males. This game was made with both girls and boys in mind, but it's still domanantly a dark girls game. But the dark tone will appeal to boys too, so they have a wider audience.
The violence is very bloody and you get to swoon at Alice's pretty dresses. The levels vary between very violent colours and pretty things that are aimed at girls like dolls and butterflies. I can tell because I've played both games that it was dominatly made with girl gamers in mind because they made Alice incredibly pretty whereas in the last game her apearnce kept changing for the worse for example she would get changed into a monster with horns and even set of fire.

I don see why gender is such an problem in gaming..I mean sure I wish there were more games where the main char was a kickass girl like Alice but hey playing as a guy char ain't so bad tho. Just wait someday girls will make their grand entrance into the epic gaming world alongside with the already pwning dudes. :P

The game gets fairly dark at times, and I think it was designed for just a older crowd anyways. Wonderland going to hell and deformed babies that turn into trains and spit fire, or gigantic menacing rabbits/madhatters trying to kill her kind of emphasize that.

I don't think it's a girly game. Just cause the main character is a girl doesn't automatically make it a girl targeted game. This game seems pretty unisex when it comes to the audience it is aiming at.

If you were playing Barbie's horse club/land/school or some rubbish then I think most people would think it was strange if anyone male or over the age of 10 was playing it. Gender doesn't matter anyway but I'm just giving an extreme view.

Who gives a fuck. Sorry for cursing but since when have video games been about gender or solely about story or graphics? I think what makes a video game good is how addictive the gameplay is and it shouldn't matter if the main character is a female. This game isn't gender biased but all the people who say it is are defiantly sexist. In conclusion, this game is refreshing and I feel that a female antagonist doesn't change that fact.

I don't think there should be any such thing as "gender biased gaming". Every girl or guy has their preferences as to what they like to play. I am a female gamer who enjoys everything from Call Of Duty to Silent Hill and everything in between. Play what you like and what you enjoy. The people who are commenting that a guy should not be playing this game, obviously have their own issues that has nothing to do with you! :-)

The reason why any people like to say this game is only for girls is because Alice is wearing a modest dress. We all know Lara Croft is female, but no one says that game series is for girls because she wears outfits designed to woo the male audience. Having said all that, this is not a female game. Its a game for all who would like to see a shift from first person shooters.

men and women like the game and the alice series, each for their own reasons. some men have an alice fetish. and some girls wanna be alice (if that makes sense). either way, the alice series is targeted for every audience not one in specific. at least that's how the novels were like. so i'm guessing the game follows the same ideal. alice is female so you will see feminine aspects in the game. but it is not enough to make a man feel uncomfortable to play it

I think the only reason people would call it a 'girly game' is because the main character, Alice, is clearly a girl. I don't see anything wrong with a guy playing this game. That's like saying a girl is 'gay' or 'manly' for playing games with male main characters. Basically, if you like playing the game, just play it, no matter what gender the MC is.

I love 2D levels. I got the game but did not know about it till I got up to this part. This is not a Girls game. My friend who is Male has this game too. No he is not Gay lol. A girl game would be like Barbie Doll or whatever. That person is too focused on looking Macho. Oh well he will be missing out on a good game because of that. Thanks for the Nice Videos again.

what I got from the Alice in Wonderland story originally. These games only emphasize on that. This Alice game is beautifully done. The graphics and score are amazing and anyone that can't appreciate that needs to widen their mind when it comes to gameplaying. Not everyone wants to play first shooter games all the time.

The Alice games are unisex. The score for the first Alice game was done by NIN. This is not technically a "female oriented/targeted" band. So I think they did that to bring in male players to the game. The score was awesome for the first Alice game done by them. It was actually not a painting it was made to look like paper puppets. The Chinese use it for plays. Very flimsy puppets though yet so beautiful.

Ask yourself this In the Metroid games you play as a girl but that doesn't necessarily make it a girl's game. Though I guess the whole idea of a hot chick shooting aliens might make it a guy's game...
For Alice ya got a crazy girl with a kitchen knife killing stuff with blood all over in a trippy place...Just cause it's based of a fairy tale doesn't really make it a girls game. It's for mature gamers after all so if we can all be mature about it can be for everyone.

My boyfriend showed me this game that he has and his friend that works at gamstop, who is a guy recommended it to him! So I do not believe it is a game only for girls. Its a game for both guys and girls. The only thing that would make it more for girls is the fact of the dress changes on Alice :D But no just because you play as a girl in the game doesn't mean its for girls one -nods to herself with arms crossed and eyes closed- mhmmm

This game was made with both girls and boys in mind, but it's still domanantly a dark girls game. But the dark tone will appeal to boys too, so they have a wider audience.

The violence is very bloody and you get to swoon at Alice's pretty dresses. The levels vary between very violent colours and pretty things that are aimed at girls like dolls and butterflies. I can tell because I've played both games that it was dominatly made with girl gamers in mind because they made Alice incredibly pretty whereas in the last game her apearnce kept changing for the worse for example she would get changed into a monster with horns and even set of fire.
