this is bill champlin from chicago he recorded it on his first solo outing in 78'.written by bill with foster and graydon they won two grammies for best r n b song in 79.when EW&F recorded it on their I AM album.graydon solo is awesome he and lukather are buddies.
@poltome i agree totally! this album also features ray parker jr,jeff and mike porcaro,david foster,dave grusin,alphonso johnson,harvey mason,patrice rushen a top roster indeed!themid 70's gave us toto,boz scaggs(his first big album inan already established career),christopher cross,journey,andrew gold.and big releases from the eagles,jackson browne,fleetwood mac,steely dan,billy joel,.a great time in music!!
@MrTonedeff One of your own country men is often overlooked in terms of jazz/rock composing and production and that's Rod Temperton. If he were black and came from the States he'd be up there with the likes of Quincy Jones.
@poltome yes rod is excellent! he began with heatwave boogie nights and grooveline to name two! then he met quincy and said he was a fan of Qs' movie scores and they hit the piano and rod wrote three songs for off the wall and the rest is history! throw in give me the night for george benson plus something special on the dude and razzamatazz. FYI he also penned sweet freedom for mike mcdonald!! truly talented!
@MrTonedeff He also had a hand in Ya Mo Be There by McDoanld and James Ingram. There's something going on up in Yorkshire. McLaughlin, Holdsworth and Temperton. Not to mention the guys down the road in Liverpool. I think an investigation is warranted! :-)
@poltome i agree ! i,d forgotten yah mo be there duh!!!.it has to be the fresh mountain air that inspires these guys! stevie winwood also lives out in the sticks he is also mega talented! talk to ya later!
this tune is timeless...one of the greatest ever written.. geniuses at their best! Godbless you guys and eternally thankful for the music you shared...please come to manila,philippines

I'm a Maurice fanatic, but love hearing the differences in this version. Such a kick ass song, any way you look at it.

@MrTonedeff That era 1976-80 produced some great artists. I look at an album like Lee Ritenour's Captain Fingers and it almost became a who's who.
