  • after so many years, I still love John Denver's song.

It brings back so much memories. Annie's Song meant so much to me.

  • I've listened to most of these videos from Cork City, and honestly don't know if he ever sounded better.

  • @megacpaman That is also my opinion. Thank you for your kind comment.

  • Beautiful video - thanks.

  • Thanks again Phillipa, It works for me too.

  • Tis a melancholy tune alright, but sometimes I am in the mood to be melancholy myself...

Then I play 'Catch another Butterfly" and I'm all good again =)

  • doubtcha Johnny boy!

  • And I forgot about that one! I remember playing it to death when I got the album on LP all those years ago. Ahh....Now I'm depressing myself!

    Thanks!

  • Yes that's a beauty, and The Wings that Fly Us Home...so many to choose from. =)

  • Hi Michael, this was the first JD song I ever loved, I was a teenager when it was released, and I bought the sheet music and played it on the piano, again and again and again,,,

My Dad died a couple of years later, in 1982 and we played this wonderful song at his funeral, Bitter but so sweet.

    Thank-you. Phillipa in New Zealand.

  • Hi Phillipa, Thank you for your kind comments and for sharing your memories of times past. I was a decade ahead of you regarding JD's roster of fine songs. I was aware of Jet Plane and Sunshine even earlier but I didn't know who wrote or recorded them until I saw this guy singing Annie's Song a few years later! I was intrigued enough to look for his first greatest hits album. It blew me away. My favourite JD song became and still is 'Poems, Prayers and Promises'.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Yes, I love PP&P and it's way up my long, long list. I also love Whispering Jesse and Matthew, but Flying for me is my favourite, perhaps because it is linked with Johns own dreams and desires , perhaps because of the tragedy.

The monumental orchestration is just magic and a perfect accompaniment to Johns voice. Perfection .

  • Thank you for your reply and for sharing your views. In truth I love all his songs. Poems, Prayers and Promises has always stood out for me. I also felt that Boy From the Country is the greatest song he never wrote.

Again, many thanks fior your comments.
