i don't get why people say he died in a car crash ... just because of the glass at the end? ... actually you can see her sister next to a tree house .. so ... most likely ... as paperdeathmachine said, he died because of falling of the treehouse.

the story of the game is PERFECT!It is like a bitter-sweet ending.what i mean is that, eventually, the boy finds his sister, but realized that she is burring his body because the boy died, so mainly, you are playing a KICK ASS ghost fighting the dangers of what he was feeling in limbo form (i mean that the dangers are in limbo form) before he met his end.

If you watch the ending past the credits, it shows two separate swarms of flies underneath the tree house. Seems pretty clear that they are both dead.

I like your interpretation. Very good perception and insight.

The play and paradigm shift of a live boy searching for possibly his dead sister, turned on head to live girl grieving for dead boy in limbo. See "the others" with Nicole Kidman. Is one possible explanation that I really like.

Interestingly, the boy when under "mind control" brain parasite avoids "the light" and turns back onwards his journey back to the living.

So all in all... it's NOT a depressing story as some have

Boy falls from tree house and dies. He is uncertain of his sister's fate (She's alive). He wakes up in Limbo and goes through these obstacles. He almost reaches her; However, he is held back by the... the worm O_O (He wasn't willful enough to reach her yet). The glass shattering represents his spirit's awakening to the world again. He walks over to his sister who is burying him and as he slowly approaches she doesn't notice him precisely, but rather his presence (As he is a ghost)

I disagree about it making no sense. i could be wrong but i saw shades of freudian theory, jungian archetypes, themes of urban desolation, death/dream imagery from various cultures etc.

who knows if i'm onto anything..point is that it made me think. been gaming for 28 years and i had forgotten that video games could be genuine art. visually it was like a mixture of merhige's begotten, vampyr, and the art of stephen gammell. best. game. ever.

Maybe because some of us prefer things a bit ambiguous and it's nice for everyone to get what they want from time to time? Thinking can be fun. Imagination is a good thing, i swear it. Tying such an esoteric experience up in a neat little bundle would have butchered it.

Giving it a true ending would not have destroyed the game by any means, but I think it would'nt have had the same impact that it did. Some things are just better off left unexplained.

One of the best games ive ever played. I actually should by it multiple times for friends just to support stuff like that. Left me speechless even it was so short. Sad story, fitting gfx animation, a few really good tunes and in the End they finally meet again in death. Kept me entertained for a few hours and left a great impression. All that just for ten bucks! Instead other games with 5-6 games playtime charge 50Euros and are not even worth half the price.

I just got to 110% today and just, a little while ago, found out that the 112% on the leaderboards is hacked. So now I just need to beat it with zero deaths. I've played through it so much that it doesn't seem like it will give me THAT much trouble. You just have to be really REALLY patient, and careful.
