@George93648 You will have to differentiate between roughhousing and fighting. Never let them fight and always make sure you are the alpha dog. If they start fighting over one toy, throw another in the mix.
If you're looking for guard dogs, ask a professional because so many things can go wrong.

the best personal protection dog is a GSD! and if anyone is going to dispute this than ask yourself why are the majority of police, military, and security dogs GSD. thats because they have the right temperament, agility, loyalty, obedience, stamina to be a properly trained protection dog...In saying that i like pittys and i totally agree that its the owner not the breed that makes the dog!! :D

@ike134 They breed for color not temperment and therfore you get an animal that is unstable and dangerous. Its a tradeoff. The original pit was breed for human temperment and dog agression- culled off human agression. Any dog that has been bred for color and money over time can and likely will have some kind of temerment problem.

@MrBonghead101 Actually no, YOU are so wrong. "Pitbulls" Aren't the same dogs that where bred to fight bulls. The dogs they used to fight bulls where more bulky etc, I think it was 1834 they banned dogs from fighting bulls so instead of fighting a bull with your dog, you would fight someone elses dog. This then made people breed the original bull fighting dog with more agile / flexible dogs.
They are a bull terrier breed, and they get there name "pit" from fighting inside a pit

Normally I would say a good advice ("socialize him") but not always true! I'm going to see a trainer now because I can't handle him anymore when it comes to other dogs (no human aggression).
An amstaff is NOT the same as a APBT.. The American Staffordshire Terrier comes in a height of 17 to 19 inches and a weight of 40 to 50 lbs. The AMSTAFF comes in Red, black, white, fawn and blue with shades of white and other colours. This breed has a soft, dense and short coat.
The APBT comes in heights of 18 to 22 inches and a weight of about 30 to 60 lbs. This breed comes in almost all colours. They have a shiny, thick and short coat.
These are the standars for each... not black & white here

Stop arguing over whether or not these dogs are a specific breed. When they put breed specific legislation in place it doesn't matter if your dog is APBT or just a mutt bully! They will consider ANY KIND OF MIXED BREED that remotely resemble them!
