The SM57 is warmer, and not as bright as the i5. The i5 also picks up a lot more than the SM57. Both are great mic's though. To be honest, it's not a huge difference, and I don't prefer one over the other. It all depends on the sound you're trying to achieve.

Like I said earlier, it depends on the sound you're trying to achieve. Most dynamic mic's on it will sound great, if they're quality. Straight up, I like SM57's a lot.. but you also don't have to just use one mic on the cab, you can use multiple. Besides micing the cab you can also mic the room (if the cab isn't in an isolation booth). If you wanted to go more balls out, you could also plug it in directly, as well as mic the cab, the room, etc and then mix them.
