Yea. It's a pretty typical mainstream US TV "special." In other words, the level of bias here is disgusting. The narrator even explicitly says that US kids do sports for fun!, but the Chinese are ... what, forced? How silly. And because it's mainstream US TV, you have to throw in references to "Soviet" style sports philosophy, to scare the viewer a little more. Wake up, people!
P.S. Everyone who you see in the olympics trains like this. EVERYONE.
Thus to kids who are not great in books, but super in sports, going to one of those sports school is a better option(esp. financially). Most sports schools are sponsored at the provincial level, and the athletes(from provincial teams) compete during the nationals to be picked into the national team. Once in the national team they have to remain competitive enough to stay at the national level, which means hard training. I think once China has more private sports clubs, these schools will go away
Also, keep in mind that due to the huge population of China, admissions to all schools(academic or sports) are very competitive. Joining such sports schools is like having a full-time job where the athletes are paid with salary, thus a better option for struggling families if the kids have the talents. students of sports schools have the option to discontinue if they choose; then they would just go to regular(academic)schools.
nice video, but let's keep in perspective that although the average standards of living in China has improved greatly in past decade, China is still a developing country. Hence, its public services, such as the availability of sporting facilities, are not as good as the developed nations. To become an athlete at national or international level, the quickest route is often to join the provincial and national teams via those sports school sponsored by the state.
Two countries have totally different cultures. Please, sometimes children need some or little penalties. It is not always wrong, if an adult sometimes hits a child. Would you please don't always put your own "right" opinion to judge others? It is so sick that the US is always the one who attacks and threats others nations while saying that they fear of North Korea, China, Iraq......
The US is a rich country, people are well educated here, using your eyes and brain to see, to think.
One thing the commentator does not mention is, no kid is forced to go to sport schools. Parents AGREE to let their kids to go. American media very often gives such biased coverage.
sure given the choice: working in the factory, as a office lady, in a restaurant, massage place... or getting event a tiny chance to be a great sportman.
I think so too. To be successful, of course, everybody has to work extreme than others. I hope the US don't always try to say things negative about China. They always sound that they are the one who is always good, and others who different are devil, I really hate it.
Yes, it is so sick that they always use their own "right" opinion to judge others. Hope they will say LESS negative things about China please. They says things always sounds like they are the one who is angle, and others who on the other side are evil. I am so SICK of it.
This comment has received too many negative votes show
