@bladefyre666 the "badenweiler" wasnt a ww2 march. it was written in 1914 for a royal bavarian guard regiment.!! by the way: nearly al german marches were composed LONG before hitler get the power!!!

Nur weil es dem "anderen" sein Lieblingsmarsch war hat er nicht ansatzweise was mit dem 3. Reich zu tun. Er wurde für ein Französisches Sanitätsregiment, was in Badenweil stationiert war, geschrieben. Lange vor "seiner" Zeit.

Der Badonviller-Marsch wurde für das Infanterie-Leibregiment 112 geschrieben. Zu Ehren ihres Sieges gegen die Franzosen in der Schlacht bei Badonviller. Und dieses war kein französisches, sondern ein bayrisches Regiment. Und in keinem Fall ein Sanitätsregiment. Die Jungs haben da gekämpft. Infanterie halt!

Aber mit Sanitätsregiment hat der Marsch im weitesten Sinne auch zu tun. Georg Fürst, der Komponist, soll sich nämlich von den Sirenen der Sanitätswagen inspiriert haben lassen, die die Verwundeten vom Schlachtfeld gefahren haben.

Das NS-Regime machte aus dem Badonviller-Marsch dann kurzerhand den Badenweiler-Marsch.

Ist ja auch klar, denn des Führers Lieblingsmarsch durfte ja kein Franzose, bzw. Lothringer sein! Das hätte kaum in die Ideologie gepasst.

The marching tempo for the Household Division is 116. This sounds about right, although I agree that "Badenweiler" is better faster.

116 is the tempo for the german bundeswehr too, but i like this interpretation of Badenweiler. It underlines the typical british marching sound. by the way, a few asked here why british military is playing a german march like that. indeed it is a tradition to play marches of the beaten armies. there are lots of german marches in the repertoire of british military bands like "Steadfest and True" (In Treue fest).

This is true..The Grenadier Guards Band in particular play a lot of German Marches on parade. The link was complete when they appointed a German to be the Band Sargeant Major some years ago.

The badenweiler March is from the first world war, hitler liked it and so he took the badenweiler for becoming is enmarching theme. But the Badenweiler is still a fine German March for the monarchists.

The Foot Guards' marching pace is a little slower than the standard British Army marching pace, the Light Division marches a bit faster than the standard pace.
