  • Hi Pete, I just listened to Des' song, when he wrote that you also did this cover, so i was curious ofcourse..I think you did great! I Like Des'version also, have you seen his latest upload of this one?

    seeya Pete

  • @breedenburgh I'm happy with the basic production job on this one. It has potential to be polished more maybe. Thanks for listening. Des' song is a great song, lyrically and musically.

  • The Ultimate of coolness great voice!

    : )

  • @BRACK3N Yeah, too cool isn't it? Thanks mate:) A trip to a far off place is an expensive way to make a video isn't it, ha. It works though. You can't beat interesting raw footage. I can't make those special effects work tastefully for me the way you so skilfully can. Shane can do it well too...but then one of my faves from him is just scenery from a car driving through the streets of Zimbabwe...

  • Rockin man. Reminds me of Lou Reed, and when the woo hoos kicked in at the end, especially.

Will try to find out more about Mr Sun from god's own country.

  • Hi Pete, The difference is amazing. Did you work all the magic? cause it sounds very professional. Great work on it!

  • @busywave Hi Mark and thanks. Yeah, I'm starting to get the hang of pro tools - feel like I understand the process better now - perhaps 10% instead of 5% :)but it's a really good program. From what I've been reading, getting a really good mic will make a big difference so that's the next step I suppose. I need to get one of those condensors I'm told, which will then pick up the theme tune to "MY Little Pony" from the living room as well as my gat and vox:)

  • Hey Pete, I like this mix much better, especially the great bass response you get on it now. Everything smokes now, got me dancing and you know dog-gone well I can't dance.... shame on you for that :o) -Ron

  • @rhopen Oh and don't think I didn't hear that very clever tip of hat to the Beatles at the end there either, that was a perfect little vocal touch :o) -Ron

  • @rhopen Hi Ron. I just had to go through the bass and decrease it in volume in different places to seperate it more in the mix for that sound. Same thing for the rhythm gat and vocals. Seemed to work but took ages so next time I may just lower the kick in the compression (sounds technical eh, but I've only just read it reigns in dynamic vocals - wish I'd read it sooner:) Thanks and now I want a country breakfast as well. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

  • Hi Pete! This is an awesome song (Des did it again!), and the video is terrific! Great performance! Really enjoyed this! (-; Babs

  • @babs4TLove Des has written some of the best I've heard. He churns them out while only occassionally stopping to record them well (O Sun and Special Woman are great though) - which is possibly why he enjoys other people covering them- we labour to get them sounding good! It's fun though to hear the end results. I like your version of I Want You To Know as the picking part is really well developed in the folk style you play so very well.

  • i agree, this is a better mix and cool visuals. keep on keepin' on, chuck.

  • @chuxtrux Will do chuck. Everything alright with you or have you decided to slow down a bit? Busy at work I suppose...Using those 3d wrenches? Hey, what about a 3d wench :)

  • Hi Pete, I like the guitar intro very much. Your song reminds me a lot on the White Album, not only because of the wild honey pie :-) To visit India has always been a childhood dream of me. I had a penfriend from Delhi in the 70s and it was exciting to get letters from so far away.

    Have a great Sunday, -

    Anette

  • @TanteA I'm not surprised you hear the link to double white, being a BeaTles fan as I am. It reminds me a bit of the postmodernist rockers such as Savoy Truffle, Back In The USSR and Glass Onion even...plus the Indian connection of the video brings to mind most of the white album was written there. Cool hey? Love that link. Perhaps, not uncoincidentally, the other 2 songs by Des I've covered also have a Beatlesque touch. Great Brit music hall jazz pop/ rock hybrid writing there from Des. Thanks!

  • Heck Yah!! WooHoo!! Pete be rockin' for sure!! hahahaah Love it Pete...you are truly amazing....you've gotten more comfortable with the song and the vocals prove that...the playing is superb!! I love the comical inflection in your voice at different points in the song. I have to admit..I didn't think you did songs like this...but you should do more...cause it's BRILLIANT!! Made me smile BIG TIME!

    Peace,

    Yvonne

  • @chirogirl67550 Hi again Yvonne. Apart from the first 2 lines which I had to replace due to unwanted noise stuck in them, all of the parts are the same...I just remixed them better. Yeah, the comic touch suited it well, you're right there. Accidentally I sang the line the girl whispers "...knock the top of my bottle o' wine" louder than the rest instead of quieter, then left it because it was funny to think of the character as an unsubtle slapper.

  • @CurtisMateer Thanks again and check out Bab's version of I Want You to Know when you have time. She posted it 2 days ago and it sounds great.

    Pete

  • @CurtisMateer Well, you've made a believer out of me....that the Mix can change the sound totally...it sounded like a whole new recording...amazing!! Whatever you did...it's a superb recording without a doubt!! Have a Great week!!

    Peace,

    Yvonne

  • Awesome Ragtop Great Sites Pete..

  • @TUCKERZONE Thanks Ni(d)g(e)!!:o)

  • Sounds great Pete! The monkeys were so cute!!! Really fascinating video. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  • @Cameragirl803 Ha, yeah those monkeys cracked us up. One wheeled the other around in a little cart too. The trainer is a Gujarati who caught them while young and trained them to perform so he can make a living.

No social welfare there to speak of. He was good man. We were short of paper money but he didn't mind and still got them to perform for us. This happened half way between Delhi and Agra (where the Taj is) ata tourist stop.

    You're must welcome too!

  • @AWelshMusician I mean "big" of course, lol. You must have had heaps of gigs in your career.

  • I had good materials to work with which makes all the difference of course...just listened to Never Got In The Game before tea time tonight and a performance that fine deserves to be shared with others. At present it is being enjoyed by an audience out there of only one probably - me! (Saved it to Real Player). You know it's good or you wouldn't have written a copyright mark on it, I bet, albeit a slightly ironic one. I'm glad you never got gig in the biz/game so we can hear you here!Regards.PCM

  • Again Lovely, Pete! Sounds absolute better and still loves that video. Rock on brother!!! Must say that its a pleasure to go around with you in Dehli! Says no to my company, will not follow them to India, bit scarry for that. Wonderful weekend to You and your family. Greetings from a grey Sweden Michael
  • @PhilDeeferSite Hi Michael. You'd like India, I guarantee it. It's not scary at all! Fantastic food, art, culture, magnificent buildings around such as the Taj Mahal to see. Boy, it's a crazy, mad, fascinating place. Thanks for checking this vid out!

  • Sounds great Pete! Interesting to see more Delhi scenes.

  • @ljped Hi Jack. Thanks again mate. Got to keep trying to break new ground in recording for myself, although it's old ground to others and nothing compared to the sound which professionals get, but whatever, I'm enjoying it mostly, apart from when I get mad and yell at the computer for freezing once again. how is it in Ireland at the moment? Cold and grey like in Sweden or is tht going too far North for comparisons? Pete

  • @CurtisMateer Things are great here Pete - the sun has come out today :))

We have just got a recorder so we can improve the sound on our vids.............if only we could get it to work!

We can make a recording OK but the playback volume on the computer has a very low volume. We've wasted hours on it already but we live in hope :)

  • @ljped As long as the vocal and instrumental parts are at correct volume levels in relation to each other, it should then be possible to, after having first exported the mixfile, to import the single wave mixdown back into your program onto one track and then to turn the volume of this up further. Once you've done this you might notice that, louder, some levels seem a bit too quiet or loud in places. You may then go back into the original recording and make adjustments then repeat the process...

  • @CurtisMateer Cheers Pete. I forwarded your reply to JM who is trying to get it to work at his house :)

  • Amazing what a remix can do. Well done Pete.

    The video is still entertaining.

    Dave

  • @dholeton Hey, thank you very much Dave, I agree...I spent a while getting the guitar, bass and vocals more even in volume (without employing compression because I hadn't started that way and didn't want to start again from scratch as I liked the passes)...Pete
