  • I come here to laugh

  • D-tuna? thats my supper!!!!

  • A "standard tune guitar"? Rofl!

  • Whenever I tune my guitar to D I play Holy Mountains to see if it's tuned...

  • Drop D is not that much used on metal... Think of Iron Maiden for example, what tuning do they play in? Standard of course! And if you're talking about hardcore metal, like all that death metal and stuff... They are mostly in tunings like Drop D, Drop B and even lower...

  • @Elthehablo Bands like All That Remains and As I Lay Dying use drop D tuning. I think C# is a much more common tuning though.

  • @HalfEvilTripl3 Where I said Drop D I meant drop C and C#

  • @HalfEvilTripl3 all that remains = D standard, As I lay dying = mostly Drop C - and C# tuning? dude what are you talking about C sharp lol....

  • @Elthehablo iron maiden is not metal anymore dude sorry its not 1980 anymore - Drop D isn't used anymore in metal except for Lamb of God and a few other bands - most bands are Drop C or B, B standard, etc. A lot of 7 string usage now too.

  • ah Drop D...the basic for Rammstein

  • hi...i have a small request for you...Can you give me an example of how to connect a lot o f guitar effects together ...?????plzzz

  • How you get your E bottom string back to a E string? (after you tuned it to D, but want it back as a E again)

  • @Zam0rak41 Get a tuner?

  • @Zam0rak41 tune it back up to an E....lol....

  • Woohhoho watch out everybody. He's all the way down in D. Wow that's fucking heavy. Lol "heavy metal". Try drop A or G#

  • @AdrienChaos Wow man, you is so broots and heavy metal man!

  • @rormeister ya...he got the talent at birth...i think...good job man..god bless you..

  • how did he make that strat sound like that !!!!!!!!!!

  • this is exactly what i was looking for, thanks.

  • How to do that sound played in 1:13?

  • @ThaDiDsu Look up pinch harmonics (sometimes called artificial harmonics) :D

  • i wonder if you tune a guitar to standard D and put a D-tuna on it will it drop it down to drop C

  • I didnt get it.

YOU tune it DOWN or HIGHER that your ordinary standard E?

Be'cause I tuned it down and got something really different.

  • @Zoopyzoop1002 you tune the low E string lower until it harmonizes with the D string

  • @Zoopyzoop1002 Wha....?

Down refers to pitch, buddy. When you're talking guitar, up and down ALWAYS refer to pitch.

  • Ummh.. then it might be just my crappy overused stagg stratocaster.

Cant play anything but "Chug" chug" crunks on it.

It's like playing on a cats vocal strings, even if it is perfectly tuned >.<

I really need to get an Ibanez or some real gear.

  • @Zoopyzoop1002 u know how to tune E standard (normal guitar tuning)? u know how you usually tune the low E to the 7th fret on the A string - well instead of tuning the 0 to the 7 tune the 0 to the 5th fret A string = drop D.

  • @RedneckChexMix

    Figured that long ago.

And btw, you tune your low e to 5th fret of the A string for normal tuning. 5e = 0a

And 7th for the drop D (7e=0a). Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @Zoopyzoop1002 yea i figured that but it seems like no one wants to help anyone so i commented just in case - anyways man you're right 7E=0A, but i said low E to the 7th fret A string, not E, like 0E=7A, or for Drop D 0E=5A , i just like that better - either way you got it now man. later.

  • @RedneckChexMix

Thanks, lol it's really hard to learn to simplests licks if you're a newb on guitar with all these "pro's" on youtube, and enspecially if you have crappy equipment.

I started learning classical guitar, now I know how to play real notes like CDEFGABC on a stave. (those are just few)

I'll try what you said and see what I get :D

  • @Zoopyzoop1002 yea i know man - its like pulling teeth trying to learn anything on google or youtube - but sweet classical music man - u doin the finger picking stuff or no? i love the harmonic minor stuff man its awesome. yea man u need help w anything let me know, alright man peace

  • is there any other mods you have to do to your guitar to do this like with the neck or anything?

  • "Hi, We're 'expertvillage', we are a group of assholes who get other assholes to make shitty "tutorials" in order to take your soul, i mean "time" and also force you to watch adverts as long as our videos so that we can rake in the cash, but if you are tired of our shit, then copy and paste this comment onto everyone of our videos and get it to the highest rated comment on that vid, if this is done correctly we will delete this youtube channel, if not then we will make a vid on copy&paste"....

  • @Zofnok hi, there are a lot worse things in life than watching a few adverts. Get used to it.

  • Do you folks like coffee?

  • 1:12 yeah exept that those harmonics are so damn hard

  • It's called pinch harmonics

  • what is the thing (heavy thing).. he does at 1:13 called please.. thank you^^

  • @MusicNeardSasuke ithink its a pinch harmonic

  • @BeHemoth481000 yeah i found out.. thanks for the help buddy^^

  • @MusicNeardSasuke im tryin to learn them

  • I bet he can't play lamb of god.

  • @gianniswildchild LOL, he teaches scales and pinch harm, not to mention sweep picking, If you can spot anything else that Lamb Of god do then feel free to correct me, but I'm pretty sure they're just speed harm whores much like me and my guitar.

  • @Sagaterious they are music geniuses

  • @gianniswildchild No, they are nothing but speed and Pinch/Distortion whores, they are a good band, I like a lot of their stuff, but saying that someone who can clearly play guitar this well "Probably can't play Lamb of God" is abit, retarded?

  • @Sagaterious Lol Lamb of God in terms of metal is pretty slow and chill, and a band that would be All Speed and distortion is Nile, Lamb Of God is nowhere near all speed. Not saying their the best band ever or anything but saying "Lamb of God is all speed" is abit retarded.

  • OMFG 138,000 videos

  • Drop d? Killing in the name. 'Nuff said.

  • This video is fake and gay. You guys probably put toilet water in your cereal.

  • @MrBoxKill75 How the fuck is it fake you cock.

  • @MrBoxKill75 Looks pretty real to me. They are using real instruments real talent real ppl. Just.........real.

  • @MrBoxKill75 actually its called milk but good idea if u have milk added

  • "Hi I am Gary Shit!"

  • how did he do that wine at 1:13 ?

  • @Dragnsht It's called pinch harmonics, and the technique for doing those is quite tricky: when I do pinch harmonics (which I'm not very good at, for the record), I take my thumb and I try to touch the string very slighty, while also picking the string. It is the thumb touching, NOT muting, that makes the high pitched noise you hear. It is extremely tricky and takes a lot of practice.

  • @Dragnsht its called a pinch harmonic.

  • hey im new to guitars and i got a ibanez pro line with the floyd rose and i was wondering what kind of magic did u use to drop d

  • @tippx7420247365 you have to set it up in the back of the guitar for drop tunings if you have a floyd rose.

  • @Metallideth94 i dont think so i wouldnt know and also would i have to lock the strings in?

  • @tippx7420247365 wanna know what man i dont think i have a d-tuna sorry for wasting your time man

  • @tippx7420247365 eh just google it

  • @Metallideth94 alright thanks anyways bro

  • PLEASE TELL ME how do you get your guitar to scream like at 1:11 !!????

    PLEASE TELL ME!!!!

  • @rebellRR8 I need to know that as well :S

  • @rebellRR8 It's called a pinch harmonic. You do it by hitting the string with your pick and then you thumb right after. Search for "pinch harmonic lesson" on youtube for more details. It can be very tricky to learn, espeicially on the highest and lowest string.

  • @rebellRR8 pinch harmonics man!

  • need sm help frm da experts which one should i get frm da flwng guitars

    ibanez rg470mh

    prs se custom24

    schecter damien riot

    ltd mh350

    jackson dxmg

    plzzzzzzzzz hlp

  • What amp should I buy if I want to play metal guitar?? :D

  • @Grante95 ENGL! :P

  • @Grante95 I would recommend the Line 6 Spider IV 30 Guitar Combo Amp, retails at about £150

  • @Grante95 dont get line 6, they suck compared to most other amps. i say get either a marshall mg50fx, a randall kh-75, a mesa boogie, or a fender super champ XD. really though the amp doesnt matter for distortion, i pick amps for their clean sounds and the amps i listed above have really nice cleans, if you want to play metal get an ESP guitar, a boss MT-2 metal zone dist, a boss NS-2 noise suppressor, and a mesa boogie.

  • @Metallideth94 Why would you get an MT2 if you have mesa boogie? you just go to the overdrive channel. and if that ain't enough gain there, you take an overdrive pedal i guess. at least thats what most people do.

  • @Krakthor it was the first pedal i ever owned and the sound i get from it is just a personal preference eh.

  • @Metallideth94 Well yeah its all personal preference, but i nerver got a good tone out of it^^

  • @Krakthor true, it really didnt get me a good tone either before i figured out my amp setting had alot to do with tone as well lol

  • 1:13- 1:15 EPIC FUCKING SQUEAL

  • how does he do that thing at 1:12? please tell...

  • @Meurth choke up on your pick so the side of your thumb hits the string in conjunction with the pick. As far as the left hand - vibrato for days like Zakk Wylde. Look up "pinch harmonic" on here.

  • It's no wonder expertvillage disabled comments on their youtube channel, they were getting so much hate.

  • my guitar teacher just showed me how to drop D tuning and pinch harmonics and i'm having a kick arse time making some heavy metal riffs

  • This guy is certainly one of the better "experts" from expert village.

  • What about drop A?

  • @MeaQuidemCancer Tune down to B, then drop.

  • @PlatypusOhioMusic I was thinking more "why don't they do a video on it since it's a popular death metal tuning?" I play in drop A alot.

  • What songs did he play at the end?

  • do you use distorcion?

  • Thank you so much, whoever you are, thanks to your key I have unlocked the holy grail of riffs...they just keep spewing forth non stop...

  • Expert Village why do i even bother with your videos!

  • Every expertvillage video i watch makes me want to watch other expertvillage videos less then the previous one...

  • What about C-Tuna?

  • @FokasSk8er I think you tune to Drop D and then the D-Tuna would be a C? :P

  • @FokasSk8er u jst gtta be in d standard, then tht will turn into a c tuna simple.

  • if you guys watch this video go straight to 1:06 that's when gary does some awesome playing

  • What do you call that distortion that sounds like a pig squeal, if you will?

  • @MrCram4life I'm assuming you are refering to "Pinch Harmonics"

  • @JaccRabbit52 Yes, thank you :)

  • Comment removed

  • You seem to be loving fenders.

  • You sir, are AWESOOMEE!!! ^^

  • Dude, I think you're confusing Drop D with Drop C, b/c when I do what you did, I get Drop C.

  • @RDdaNINJAdude your the only one who said that and that is pretty obvious

i think you are that slow :P

  • @xXMeTalZXx No, I confused Drop D with Drop C. I had a blonde moment so-to-speak.

  • @RDdaNINJA mmm.... ok and i think you know that drop C is two frets down or a whole step down from drop D right?

  • @xXMeTalZXx Yes I do. I'm not a guitar master, I know that, but I how to tune a guitar.

  • "use your bottom (thinks about what the string is called) E" :D

  • Be a Man, buy a 7 string and use drop A.

  • @Azria032

Be an IronMan, buy an 8 string and use drop E.

  • Blackx5man its a pinch harmonic! Its a pinch harmonic bro! Pinch harmonic! Pinch harmonic! FUCK five pages of the same comment I think he FUCKIN got it by now

  • @freewayman1 What's that sound he makes at 1:13 ?!

  • that sound from 1:05 to 1:21 remember me zackk wylde...

  • he looks like tony hawk

  • @TheCOB98 look at the date noob i know already how this would be played -.-

  • ExpertVillage sucks... Go to Vapid Butchery and watch the "drunken how to videos"!!! They are much more fun and still informative!!!! Learn whammy tricks and scale techniques as well as badass trill tricks!!!! This guy wouldn't know metal if it bit him in the fuckin ass...

  • @nivenheim i totally agree with u

  • that floyd rose tremolo looks real awesome

  • Thumbs up if you thought about Iron Man at some point in the video.

  • @cchavez1000able I thought about "Ice 9" at the end of the video.

  • @cchavez1000able Yes, and I thought about Tom Morello.

  • EVH D-Tuna!!!

  • thank you soooo much this video makes much more sense......i kept looking for a drop d tuning video ,but i didnt know what to do for the other strings......THANK YOU!!

  • I learned it this way...

    1. Start in Standard tuning

    2. Put you index finger on the 7th fret of the 6th string and don't tune the 6th string to match it to the open 5th string.

Not sure if its right but it sounds about the same to me.

  • Every village has a village idiot.

  • iff you play drop d, your gay or a guitarteacher

  • @shitfaced1312 if you rip on guitar for no reason at all, your just plain stupid

  • @shitfaced1312 Well, I am neither gay, nor a guitar teacher and I play in Drop D all the time. I would at this point like to list off just a few musicians who commonly use Drop D: Eddie Van Halen, Tom Morello, Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, and Thom Yorke from Radiohead, Adam Jones from Tool, Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden, Kurt Cobain, Stephen Carpenter and Chino Moreno from the Deftones, etc. You don't even have an arguement.

  • @kyletheenigma if you play drop d in metal, it sounds shitty but in grunge or modern rock like radio head, it sounds epic

  • @shitfaced1312 Explain to me how Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and Soundgarden aren't metal, or are shitty in any way? I mean, really. I think you should learn to avoid the usage of the term 'gay' as a negative implication. (I.E. 'That's so gay') You will offend people.

  • @kyletheenigma I'm just going to stop you at that last part and say that as a gay person myself, no gay person I've ever met has been offended by someone saying 'gay' in the sense of silly or stupid, except for uptight assholes who deserve the offense anyway.

  • wow this taught me nothing

  • 1:50 "With little to no ease" lol

  • floyd rose guitar seems expensive.

  • Not gonna lie he does pinch harmonics like a beast

  • pdio los comerciales

  • Every guitar tutorial on youtube has these trolls that talk a bunch af shit about what the guys offer up. If you don't like it just fuck off. The dude is trying to show people with no experience a few tips and you have nothing to offer the world so you try to dog him out. Just say thanks and go back to your pathetic existence.

  • does this work on any eletric guitar?

  • @EtniesWithSteez Yeah... I think so!

  • @EtniesWithSteez yes bro

  • @SynysterGates114 thats good cause i just got a eletric guitar from best buy i was hoping to get it from this tune

  • lol at the Ad,

"This is america, home of the fattest fuck fast food nation on earth, where everything u eat is fried,, welcome to good old america"

  • is the neck bent on the second strat or is it just the bad quality make it look like it ?

  • "with little or no ease" hahaha

  • OMG A FENDER STRATOCASTER!!!

  • Hi , my name is Gary Shit.

  • what effect do you use?

  • i thought this video was "how to play heavy metal" :s

you should change your title to "how to tune your E string into a D"

  • @Greendaymaniacs The title is fine. You need to understand what a colon means (in a series on metal, this is the bit about drop D tuning).

Not their fault if you're a bit dim. Thanks expertvilliage - I found the video useful.

  • how did u do that sound @ 1:13 ??

    nice vid

  • @blackx5man That, sir, is called a Pinch Harmonic (also called an Artificial Harmonic, or "squealie" by some). Basically what you do is pluck the string and then press the side (or side of the tip) of your thumb on the string immediately after. There's TONS of videos on it because EVERYONE has sat there and gone "WHOOAAAHH! How did he do that?!"

  • @blackx5man It's a pinch harmonic, after you hit the string just touch it with your thumb to create a harmonic sound. Type pinch harmonics into youtube and have a look at the vids. Takes a bit to get it right.

  • @blackx5man

    Pinch harmonic

  • @blackx5man its a pinch harmonic dude there easy to do with lots of gain :) try listening to some Zakk Wylde \m/

  • @blackx5man it si a pinch harmonic^^

  • @blackx5man dude it's called a pinch harmonic is simple to do you hold your pick very close to your thumb scoop the string and let your thumb hit it so it deadens the sounds as you do this bend your string and blam!! pinch harmonic oh and when you do have your finger on the string to do a pinch harmonic just place it there lightly cause u wont get it i know it took me a little while to get once you got it thought it sounds fucking sweet hope this answers your question dude

  • @blackx5man its called a pitch harmonic, pick harmonic or any other nickname people wanna give it now. you do it with your pick hand using your thumb and pick on the string. cant describe it that well but now that you know the name you can look it up

  • @blackx5man Harmonics.

  • @blackx5man he used pinch harmonic... he pinched the string and maked it sound cool :D

  • @xxvogricxx I have a question being that I've only been playing for about half a year. I've been learning certain songs online and notice one song being played two different ways (In Bb or in Drop D) Drop D of course is easier, but other than that, why choose drop D instead of standard tuning or going down half a step? Is it just personal preferance or is it the deeper heavier sound you get out of drop D?

  • @MADBALL9991 when you tune your guitar drop D .. you know barre chords right ? so you dont need to use 2 finger but just one like : 6string :5 fret 5 string 5fret 4string 5fret in normal ttuning that would be 6 string 5fret 5string 7fert 4string 7fret you get it cuz my english really bad .. hmm if i could just show you somehow xD

  • @xxvogricxx Yeah I know it's all bar chords and easier to play. I guess you anwered my question. Drop D is more of a beginner type technique versus using 2/3 fingers for a power chord?

  • @MADBALL9991 metal uses this tuning a lot

and they arent songs for beginners

  • @guitarramaniacx Oh ok well I was just asking because it seems ten times easier to play that's all.

  • @blackx5man its a pinch harmonic

  • @blackx5man

its called a PINCHED HARMONIC, its kinda hard to do if your new to guitar, but after a while its quite easy to get. To explain how to do it is quite hard, but the best I can do is : - instead of playing the string as normal, slightly "pluck" the guitar pick slightly under the string in one sharp motion. Whilst fretting on the fret of your choice. The E string (closest to you) on the 3rd fret it is quite easy to get

  • @blackx5man it is called pinched harmonic :)

  • @blackx5man it's called a pinch harmonic. its when you hit the sting and let your thumb(or whatever you feel like useing((thumbs the most comon))) just tap the string slighty to get the high pitch to it.

  • @blackx5man Pinch harmonic bro.

  • @blackx5man its called a Pinch Harmonic

  • @blackx5man theyre called pinch harmonics or also known as "squealies"

you should look them up, theyre super easy to learn

  • @blackx5man its called pinch harmonics, look it up man, takes some practise and you may need to rearrange the way you hold you pick, i know i had to. but once u get used to it, it is a LOT of fun

  • @blackx5man pinch harmonic

  • @blackx5man pinch harmonic

  • @blackx5man its called artificial harmonic, just when pluck the string with the very tip of your pick you want to barley hit it with the tip of you thumb right after. not the best description but i tried to help. :p

  • @blackx5man lol itsw just pinch harmonics
