  • the best voice ever i saw her live in 71 at the circle star south of frisco.

  • She has one of sweetes voices I have ever heard!

    She was sooo talented!

  • I remember driving down a lonely moonlit road one night in New Hampshire in the seventies with 3 feet of snow on either side stoned out of my tree and from the radio fell in love all over again with a dream.

    She took me there eveytime.

  • gorgeous song gorgeous singer what a voice

  • I love this video

  • oh how I love thee, Karen Carpenter...

  • If I ever had the delusion of selfcontrol I'm certain I just lost it!

  • my best in her songs

  • lmao im sitting here trying to picture what those 9 people do like

  • I will always be haunted, happily, by the unique voice and music of Karen Carpenter. Thank you, Karen.

  • my wife sings this song at karaoke, she does a fantastic version of it,so much so that people said to her that they thought that Karen carpenter had passed away, meaning that her voice is so close to Karen's and that is no disrespect to Karen's beautiful voice, i am so lucky to have a wife that can sing my favorite Carpenters song at home

  • how the fuck can 9 people vote dislike???????

  • great voice but i hear in that voice, wopping depression its not the words that depress me its in the voice. zoloft anybody?

  • @huntersingle go away and stay there! Depression would be thinking like you do.

  • @daddymonkey621 go eat your 3 big macks and fries and large drink and get to the crapper

pinch a loaf hope you get over whatever bacterium or virus you live live with

  • 素晴らしい!

  • 9 dislikes? who could dislike the carpenters???

  • @jeweladdict1972

It just goes to show for every 786 people, 9 have no taste...

  • @jeweladdict1972 The Plumbers!

  • @greenwich1754 LOL!!!

  • @greenwich1754 right on! LOL

  • ...I was in college in Maine...bitter cold...my lover-girlfriend broke my heart the day before ...didn't cry...the next day CC died...I have'nt stopped crying since....purely a beautiful a soul...a voice...angelic.

  • I really just love her she was the greatest I miss her music. I have lots of memories from my high school days from her songs she is missed alot

  • a superstar on this earth and a superstar for all eternity,xx

    R. I .P 4/2/1983

  • I still get chills listening to Karen.

  • l.inda linda saudades nao esqueço nunca....

  • This is a fan favorite for sure but one of the things that makes it so special is that Karen was only about 20 years old when she recorded it but handled it like a seasoned pro. You can hear it in the tone of her voice that she really could transfer the longing and loneliness of the lyrics. Not too many singers at 20 could even try to do what she did.

  • wow she had a voice!

  • Karen finally figured it all out and started to take care of herself but her heart couldn't take it. It was so sad. That voice was so pure and so beautiful.

  • I was looking for this song. I had heard it on the movie tommy boy

  • A real Song..One with Substance, meaning and you float away with the tune..Not like the Crap they sing these days..

  • This performance simply mesmerizes me!

  • Favorite Carpenters song - thanks for sharing!

  • She's just perfection in motion and sound....beautiful song

  • That section between 1.20 and 2.20 is particularly sublime. Wonderful melody, poignant lyrics and Karen's unique voice.

  • oh, Karen :(. her beautiful voice takes me back in time. i miss her.

  • So beautiful, so touching. Great Carpenters

  • In deep down memory

    the song .. the voice

    telling the youngs days ...

  • its so wonderful

  • I bet this song makes even metalheads sing along. LOL

  • @dsfddsgh ;)

  • Her outfit had the "goth" influence of those times. Dark Shadows was a huge hit on daytime TV.

  • awesome voice *_*

  • It was one of those times I will never forget. I love the song and of course I love the carpenters. It was a cold and snow filled day in February when I was driving down Hwy 66 in Duncan Oklahoma and the DJ for the radio station in OKC announced that Karen had just passed away. He immediately played the song "Superstar". I had to pull off the road into a parking lot and hearing that song I just cried. I could not believe it.

    God Bless you Karen...

  • @boahlb05 Wow. What a memory. It was almost exactly the same with me. It was a cold dusky day and I was driving back from a big weekend in my favourite city, Toronto and Superstar was playing over the radio. After it was over, the DJ announced that Karen had died that day. I guess it was all the meories of those great tunes that caused my eyes to flood and I pulled over and bawled for an hour it seemed.

  • Boy, 1971.... such a simple life (at 14 yrs old). I remember this song and Bill Withers Ain't no sunshine when she's gone. Thanks for posting video clips! Carpenters were truly superstars.

  • This has always been my favorite Carpenters song. In the short time she was with us she blessed us with her beauty, grace and magnificent voice. She has gone to a happier place and we will always have her songs to remember her by.

  • Such class, glamour, sophistication, and beauty. Whitney or any slut of today could not even touch the toenail of Karen. Society is degrading fast in oblivion. Will it stop before our demise?

Karen we miss you deeply : (

p.s. and no fool, that is her real hair, just like her real deal genuine music.

  • she has the most beautiful voice ive ever heard

  • so long you have been gone from us , your loving fans , we miss you karen, i look forward to seeing you and singing with you in heaven

  • My father is sexist and doesn't really like woman singers, but karen carpenter is his all time fav singer! even men!

  • @madgeordiebastard I agree.. most women singers rub me the wrong way but Karen Carpenter is a total exception.

  • The sweetest voice that already exists

  • A VOZ MAIS DOCE QUE JÁ EXISTIU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Her voice was truly a gift from God.. Karen you left us too soon..

  • Great!! Still miss Karen! Thanks for posting!

  • This guy remakes this into a dubstep song. Check it out

  • I've said it before, I'll say it again - probably the best vocal/music combination ever! Karen's voice stands alone, flawless. What I don't hear as much is comments to Richard's over the top dramatic instrumentation to this song. The low keyboard/bass, harp, and just perfect blend of some type of horn instrument. And Karen supposedly did this on first take - never having seen the lyrics before!!

  • need a good cry? put on karen!

  • @fuzzyjr22 exactly!

  • I count myself lucky to have seen Karen and Richard in concert in El Paso Tx. Karens voice and presence were truly amazing, I remember I was traveling to Flagsatff Az when I heard on the radio that Karen had passed. I remember a tear as thoughts of my teenage years listening to her music. In blessed memory Karen, you ae very much missed.

  • still cry everytime I hear that voice so sad she had to leave us so early

  • Karen was amazing. No other voice like hers. RIP angel.

  • As much as I like Luther Vandros' version, this will always be Karen's song. Her brother Richard said that this was his favorite of her songs. Kudos to Leon Russell and Bonnie (of Delaney and Bonnie) and Rita Coolidge for coming up with one of the all-time greats.

  • how come their hair is so shiny? haha

  • @gilbengy I know lol! I'll admit that I noticed how shiny their hair were. Are they both wearing wigs?

  • God!! Karen CARPENTER. why did you die? I miss you so much

  • My favorite song of all time.

  • aww man... i used to have shiny hair like the carpenters. love and miss Karen...

  • Music doesnt get much better than this!

  • Saudade!

  • stunning voice!

  • 1970? One of my favorites from Karen. no...The favorite!

  • Man, she does not look healthy in that video.

  • an obviously tortured soul with an amazing talent

this is a beautifully arranged piece

  • thanks for the video

  • We must notice that she made no efforts to make us feel the emotions and the deepest feelings she transmited on every song... We miss you!

  • Best voice i ever heard!!!!

  • The best voice i ever heard!!!!

  • We miss you guys...

  • Dedicated to me by a beloved person

  • karen was awsome

  • Lovely Karen, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.

  • saben por que estos seres no dejan hijos? ...son unicos.....la voz con nadie se comparan, la personalidad es unica solo pararse en el escenario contagia su magia ,, sin mas ... es unica karen carpenters...

  • Tragic loss she will never be replaced ......

  • A +++++

  • She kind of reminds me of Agent 99 from Get Smart ( actress Barbara Feldon) with the doo she's wearing. The seventies were great. Not wall to wall crap programming and radio like today. Why else would you need 189 channels on dish TV or satellite FM?

Now days God is punishing us with stars like justin beiber and brittany spears :)

  • @Guilddude2

So true but not only God...and a little help from ourselves.

  • The intro to this song is almost exactly like "When I Was Seventeen".

  • unique voice. unforgattable!

  • unique voice. unforgettable!

  • I am glad so many people feel the same way about her

  • Sonic Youth does a VERY good cover.

  • Karen you gave us joy by singing great songs and having the greatest voice.... CARPENTERS will never fade away, they 're be always number one to people who knows what music is.... we love you!!!!

  • Those whom the Gods love die young.

  • Elton John said.........."'Judith Durham [of Australian 60s/70s folk and pop group The Seekers], like Karen Carpenter and Eva Cassidy, possesses the purest voice in popular music." He knew his girl singers. Unfortunately 2 out f the 3 died an early death. Thanks to YouTube they all are still live...and are still young.

  • she is a superstarXD

  • Whatever Karen sang was about love and defined it for me ever after like the whirring sound of an angels wings....

  • que voz tan hermoza.. dios..

  • wow. this girl can flat out sing. its like an angel fell off a cloud and landed among us. richards arrangements are excellent.

  • from geminigirl...how i wished to meet her but how can i,,where ever shes now i hope shes happy for the legacy she does...she has a fantastic voice... i thank for her

  • best of caren the all times . . .

  • Karen possessed the best vocals of ALL-TIME!!! Additionally, she was a genius on the drums, as well as Richard being an irrefutable genius on the piano and in arranging songs. And this comes from a diehard Who, Hendrix, Doors, etc rabid rock fan. Guess what? The Carpenters should be in the rock and roll hall of fame!!! Not even Joplin, Grace Slick, Aretha, or any other of rock's so called 'divas' can come remotely close to touching this song- Let the Carpenters in!!!!!!!

  • @3424kings - from one rocker to another: you're absolutely right on !! She is the female vocal standard to which all other are measured.

  • she is just the best. Those kind of idols are not for this world, that´s why they go fast.

  • Is Karen your favorite vocalist? If so, please go Google:

Cast your vote, mark 5 points.

Karen is nº 6. She deserves Nº 1!!!

  • I was fotunate enough to see the Carpenters live in concert in the UK in the 70's and both times their performances were absolutley breathtaking. How i wish i could turn back the hands of time!

  • great song great singer (but strange hairstyle is not it?)

  • this song was wriiten about eric clapton... by leon russell & bonnie bramlett... at the request of... rita coolidge.. in early 1970

  • You can't pack all that into one little woman and turn her loose on a Record company and the media and .........

  • Just to clear some things up, yes this is playback. She isn't singing live in the video but there are many live performances of her around Youtube and she sounds better live imo.

She also recorded this song in just one take, reading the lyrics in a napkin.

  • Here is one of those live performances of this song. By the way it is spot on to the original because Karen Carpenter has a phenomenal voice! The title of that video is - Carpenters - Superstar (Live at the BBC) English/Español Subtitles (CC)

  • @emerging2012 Yes I have seen that video and that is my favorite live performance of it. :)

  • @benjsinister yet it feels so deep for one take reading the lyrics off a napkin, dont u think?

  • I think so too. I just couldn't believe a song sung that well was sung in just one take and read off a napkin. Her vocal performance was hair-raising. Her voice is full of emotion and incomparable quality. just wow.

  • If only those glorious days of the late 60s and early 70s could be brought back...

  • Ohmigod, did they pump out some music!

  • Karen Carpenter was a super-artist with an amazing voice; sadly, she couldn't handle character killing mo-fo's ...

    -The Professors-

  • Bumblebees fly into my house when I play this song!

  • A wonderful song!

  • Comment removed

  • i really love this song. amazing vocals. she had a classic sound to her voice.

  • In those days, when you sang live live - it sounded like the radio edit. Today anyone with autotune can get into the industry

  • ГОЛОС КАК У АНГЕЛА!!

  • ,,NYSHK !

  • why do most of the musical geniuses have to die young?

  • love this song, she had the perfect voice, the intro to this song, gets me everytime..

  • What a voice...still haunting and so beautiful! We miss you Karen!

  • @jamesluvsclips her absolute best song too I think!

  • yep

  • Yes, A VOICE of an ANGEL

  • @dpallenccs

I think Superstar was her/their best song of all-RIP Karen!

  • a police officer had this song at his audition prior to american idol. it was fantastic

  • Karen was angel sent down from heaven.

  • Its a shame that acts like this will probably never make it into the hall of fame because its considered soft rock.

  • the greatest female voice ever bar none God love her

  • When ever i hear this song i always feel like putting a phone to my ear and asking an insurance coverage related question.

  • wow...this gives me goosebumps.

  • Part of the reason they would have lipsynced their music is that when they first started out, they sang ALL tha harmonies, and it would be impossible to recreate that live. All the same, this is some of the best music from the '70's.

  • I like the original version. Sonic Youth's cover version in the 90's was wicked awesome too.

  • lowers my blood pressure.

  • I uses do this recreation all the time

  • Wow...This really brings back memories...Sad but uplifting too...

  • Karen was an angel with a heavenly voice.

  • This song reminds me of 'Tommy Boy'. lol

  • i wept.

  • Did what happend to Karen happen to Brittany Murphy?

  • Karen Carpenter lip-sync? Your an infidel and a heretic. 50 lashes with a wet noddle!

  • she was absolutely INCOMPARABLE ! THIS is REAL music

  • wow, her voice - so mesmorizing.

  • She was so beautiful..........

  • Karen Anne Carpenter espectacular :D

    la amo locamentee!!!!

  • q bonita cancion,q bonita melodia

    y que sonido!!!

Y esto hace casi 40 años????

    Jodeeeeeeer,q pasada

  • one of the best songs of all time

  • Your observation is interesting. I agree with your assessment. Having read lots about the Carpenters, the lip sycnch decision fits. They spent SO MUCH time perfecting the studio version, that to risk any potential flaw when they did not have to would negate all the studio effort they expended. Therefore, when they could, they used the recording to preserve the perfect version. Lord knows, they had enuf pressure on them, this may have been a bit of a reprieve. Thanks for your comments, btw.

  • lip synching was a very common practice in those days...one accepted by the performers and public. Still is beautiful anyway.

  • Yup. Even bands who were known to be amazing live mimed. People thought of TV performances the same way as music videos back then. If you wanted to see someone play live, you'd go to their show. It wasn't until much later that miming televised performances would get such a bad connotation to it, separating people who could sing from those who couldn't.

  • que espectacular vozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa que voz :( me encantaaaaa

  • ♥♥

  • I dont understand why this was lipsynched, we all know karen could sing 10,000 times better live than on the record, but whats amazing to me is the power in her voice in the studio recording because she was reading the lyrics off a napkin and it was her VERY VERY VERY first time singing it and it was only the first take, and it sounds so beautiful and powerful. Amazing

  • how do you know it was lip sang??

  • what a song!

  • Yeah, or something like it.......

  • OMG, Thought the decades had left me empty inside. Now I'm balling my eye's out. Have'nt cried since I don't know when.

    Thanks Karen! No really, Thanks.

  • what a beautiful sweet voice.

  • she has such a beautiful voice!

  • this is the most haunting love song .but only the voice of an angel could sing and make it so beautiful. I love you Karen you will always be in my heart.

  • i am 19 years old and grew up on her my mom and dad loved her i love her voice it is beautiful and unique RIP <3

  • my father said she died of hunger or something.

  • she was anorexic for too long and it eventually took a toll on her heart... she was getting better... she gained about 30 pounds but it was too much for her weakened heart and it finally gave out.... her mother found her with her eyes rolled in the back of her head after she heard a big thump coming from her room.... R.I.P. karen carpenter

  • Eyes rolled in the back of her head? What you mean they fell out? cool!

  • no...like here pupils rolled back.... R.I.P.

  • So, her eyes were like all white? cool!
