500cc is about as fair is it gets when you're talking motorcycle vs.car. Mustang GT's put up a good fight but I can usually pull on them pretty good up until 100mph.
@StealthMonkey25 you show me a ex that will do 140. realistically, not just indicated on the spedo. I have friends who race EX 500's and they will tell you the bike wont touch 140. and I can generally beat them on my CR 80 powered moriwaki MH80.

I didnt say it was faster outright on the very top end, I said I could beat them in a 8 lap roadrace. ninja 500 has 50ish HP and weighs 440lbs wet. My moriwaki mh80 weighs 175 lbs and has 22-23hp wich means the ninja is 8.8 lbs per hp and the moriwaki mh80 is 7.9 lbs per hp. as you can see power to weight ratio is better than the ninja but the ninja is geared to go faster. the mh80 will only do about 105mph

@jonycard1 you obviously know very little about motorcycles. your bike might indicate 140 on the spedo but you have to understand that all motorcycles have error in there speedometers. you also obviously know nothing of real sanctioned/closed cource roadracing, where top speed of a motorcycle is irrelevant. on most of the tracks we race at the top experts on 1000cc bikes barely hit 140 so that means on the longest straight your bike is only doing 90 if your lucky and got good drive.

@tripletrash ok this info off wikipedia claims ninja 500 0-60 time of 3.76 seconds which seems kinda fast for it but even if it is a 2004 mustang GT was anywhere from 5.5-6.1 seconds so its not even close. Weight to HP ratio on the motorcycle with me on it would be 9.15 to 1 at 540lbs for me and the bike with a 59 HP engine and the mustang with 260 hp and 3,000-3,200 lbs at a ratio of about 12 to 1. The ninja would smoke it in acceleration to probably 100mph and then the mustang would catch up

@tripletrash lol, so you just came up with that idea without any evidence? ive seen plenty of dyno graphs showing that it puts out 54hp at the rear tire bone stock, which corresponds to around 60 at the crank. with a few basic mods, it can go just a touch over 60 at the wheel.
@eburt6 it all depends on what speed youre racing at. these bikes have incredible low end. with a good, light rider, they can get 0-60 in the low 4s. which is enough to kick some serious ass. but then remember they top out at around 120mph, so at higher speeds, they can get destroyed by even mediocre sporty cars.
@pepene93 Yeah the same thing happened to me, had my brother drive my cobra. Went from a 15mph roll and i put like 8 car lengths on my cobra, then it started catching up. My bro has a gsxr1000 and it's FAST, but IMO i have more fun racing cars in my ex500 because any SS bike600 and up you know your going to kill almost 100% of the cars on the road. The ex500 puts up a good fight for a small bike. So underrated and everyone makes fun of them because they don't look "cool". Such a great bike.

But you have to factor in that it's harder to launch a bike from a stop, and that the 500 is sluggish under 6500rpm. once it hits 6500rpm it really comes alive and takes off. looks like the ninja was right at it's powerband from the very start of the race. I've never lost to a car on my 500 though lol.

that bike was turbo charged. the jets were from a zx12 maybe? i didn't do the work i bought the bike like that. however, with the stock gearing you can't do it either, the bike had a larger front and smaller rear sprocket than stock. it also had a full muzzy system. the end result was a 1992 ex500 that was too fast for it's own good and handled like total garbage.
dont know what track your at. all the lap records in texas and oklahoma are from kawasaki's and suzuki's. I have ridden r6s and they are garbage. the mv agusta 312r is the fastest production motorcycle at 195mph although im not sure of the top end of the ducati desmosedici rr but it is a 70k street legal motogp bike

The "big four" have all agreed to limit the factory bikes at around 185, I dont know why that is still fucking fast. but the italians dont give a fuck so they make what they want. and the ducati desmosedici is a street leagal moto gp bike and im sure is capeable of more than 200. hayabusa is a one trick poney the MV and Duc will corner like a some bitch.
@tripletrash They limit it to 186mph in the United States (technically it's 186.41mph) because it is 300kph exactly. The rest of the world outside of our beloved USofA uses km, obviously. We just take the 300 and suit it to our needs. Now why did they pick 300kmh? Probably because it's fast enough, and it's a nice round number. Also, the movie "300" was pretty cool, not that it has anything to do with bikes.
A bike versus a car is a fairly useless "challenge". The ninja will probably pull a high 12 on the track versus the 04' stang with a high 13, and a ninja isn't anywhere near the fastest in the first place. Nice car and bike though, I have both anyway :)
not really a waste, considering that they are much cheaper to buy and to insure. they also are much better everyday bikes than the more track-oriented 600s.
Would have kicked its ass even more off the line. I raced my 500 against a RX8 off the line and smoked it. Never caught up to me until I had to back off the throttle since I was going 130km/h in a 60.

I have a '90 model 500cc and the thing turns into a rocket when it gets up to 7000rpm.
It's funny, some of these guys in big 4x4 trucks think my little bike can't beat/keep up, but I usually toast 'em.

We just take the 300 and suit it to our needs. Now why did they pick 300kmh? Probably because it's fast enough, and it's a nice round number. Also, the movie "300" was pretty cool, not that it has anything to do with bikes.

A bike versus a car is a fairly useless "challenge". The ninja will probably pull a high 12 on the track versus the 04' stang with a high 13, and a ninja isn't anywhere near the fastest in the first place. Nice car and bike though, I have both anyway :)

not really a waste, considering that they are much cheaper to buy and to insure. they also are much better everyday bikes than the more track-oriented 600s.

Would have kicked its ass even more off the line. I raced my 500 against a RX8 off the line and smoked it. Never caught up to me until I had to back off the throttle since I was going 130km/h in a 60.
