I have always got the impression that Melcher was far more talented than has been acknowledged.
I also think he has been the convenient fall guy for The Manson Family murders.
What I have often wondered (and I bet others have as well) is WHO gave Manson the idea he could obtain a recording contract so easily as appears to have been the case. It is THIS and not Melcher supposedly turning him down which led to his later bitterness. God bless you Terry and your lovely mum.
Whew! What a flame out.It's hard to believe as incredible the version of this song is that he produced for the Byrds, something this purely horrible could be recorded. This recording hasn't a single redeaming virtue.
Terry had an amazing voice! Too bad he decided to go in to producing more than recording himself. He certainly inherited his Mother's strong pipes. Great vocal range! RIP. Thx for posting:)

This whole album is great. This is one of the highlights. So is "Arkansas"—beautiful song!
