  • It looks soo cool. But I guess those fish will really hate me, I ate their Mum and Dad.

  • are these salmon GMO?

  • @hamid954 Definitely not! All our salmon eggs come from salmon that were caught from the wild coming back to the Seymour River. The salmon fry from these eggs are release into the river as fry and allowed to go out into the wild. If they are lucky enough to survive and grow into adults, then make it back to the Seymour, they'll be able to spawn naturally in the river. Just like wild fish!

  • What is that red thing at 1:02?

  • @ToonShoot That's the yolk sac that the alevin will get energy from to grow into a salmon fry!

  • @mattcass82 what is the difference between alevin and fry? are alevin with the yolk sacs and fry are without them (when they are older)? thanks

  • @allsportslover02 - you got it! Alevin have the yolk sac. Once the yolk sac is gone the fry will swim out of the gravel and start feeding.

  • watching this, i feel so FRUSTRATED for the little guys. I mean, how annoying is it to have no arms or legs, your tail sticking out of the shell, and you have to wiggle FURIOUSLY to get your head out? and you can't even swim backwards. GAh! I would get so pissed.

  • baby fish yum

  • this is strangely cute :]

  • nice video very informative

  • what are those orange things there carrying whit them?...:)

  • @chelseal1109

It's a yolk sac! It's full of fat and gives the alevin all the energy it needs to develop into a fry. Once these salmon become fry they are strong enough to swim. The fry swim up out of the gravel and start to feed by themselves.

  • @FrInDlEyGiRl it's a yolk sac

  • omg its nature and thats how its supposed to happen but i wish i could help those lil fellas.... nice vid btw

  • plz cn u answer...whats that red thing stuck 2 them???is tht their heart r wat?

  • @FrInDlEyGiRl. It's a yolk sac!

In the wild, after the alevin hatch out of the egg, they'll swim down deeper into the gravel. This usually happens around New Year's. By swimming deeper into the gravel the alevin are protected from the gravel moving over winter. The alevin will stay deep in the gravel and use the yolk sac to grow into fry! Then in the spring they swim up out of the gravel and start eating.

  • @mattcass82 How long does it takes for the eggs to hatch ?

    thank you in advance .

  • they doing their salmon dance!

  • you can see the eyes in the eggs

  • @JUKIO01 i am love sushi they wait ounce fish till growing then eat it

  • cool

  • Please, could you tell me whether the alevin who goes down through the grating at the end was okay? My six-year-old daughter is really worried about it and desperate to know! Thanks! Great video, by the way!

  • The alevin was OK!

The screen holds eggs in the middle of the box used to hatch the eggs. Water can flow up from underneath so all eggs get oxygen. The screen also keeps the eggs separate from the alevin.

hatched alevin slip through the screen, but the unhatched eggs and egg shells stay on top. Below the screen is fake 'gravel' where the alevin will develop into a fry over a few months. The screen is removed after all the eggs hatch. When the fry are ready they swim up and out!

  • Thanks so much for answering and for the detailed explanation! My daughter jumped up and down clapping her hands in happiness and relief that the alevin was okay! lol Much appreciated!

  • Cool! I could do without the music, but nice video otherwise. :)
