Is it such a crazy idea to make all drugs legal and regulate all of them in order to take the market out of the hands of violent criminals, and stop arresting non violent users. Put warning labels on products informing buyers that they are highly addictive, still educate kids and people about the effects of these drugs. People will still do them, but these people will be social outcasts and it will be looked down upon. Ultimately I think it would help the problem, what we're doing doesn't work.

in a perfect world, yes, I totally agree. The problem is that there is far too much money to be made on both ends of the spectrum...by the kingpin and the owners of private correctional facilities. At least in the U.S., the combination of mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders and privately owned prisons are making the owners RICH.
@ebruceii usually the guys on the street replace the 'big fish' who usually dies or is arrested, they work up the food chain and get more money from the trade and probably will start the whole thing again with new guys on the street---its a cycle, which is why its easier and probably better to start from the bottom
