  • I never claim it is a pleasant sight ,hence the comment.

  • @bunionfeet1 probably not a pleasant sight in your case

  • @bunionfeet1 she's in a vest not a bikini! the only part of her exposed is her arms? Does the sight of the human arm really offend that much?

  • Used to hear Andy Kershaw play this track about 10 or 12 years ago. Had forgotten about her. My loss! A unique voice and a gifted talent. And what a backing group.

  • she is so good i wish kate would come Australia

  • I love all the perfomances on this Leeds Concert. In fact, I find they are richer and more "sparking" than alot of the recorded stuff. But you can't hide her beautiful spirit and artistry on either!

  • Thumbs up for Eggers of GC!

  • lovely voice, sister ... beautifull and thanks for your songs ...

  • The best folk singer we have in the UK, lovely person lovely voice, great players with her. Go on for ever Kate. Good old England. From Peter, Abingdon near Oxford.

  • These are the most hilarious lyrics ever, I love how it's completely obscene but pretending to be just a jolly knight-slaying-a-dragon story: brilliant!

  • look at ian carrs face halerous! love john mccusker!!! rly cool hair (good night ginger) listern

  • kates a legend,i love her music.hope the birth goes well and whoever the father is you lucky sod hehe.

  • Damien O'kane is her partener and father of the baby! xX

  • Yorkshire lass?

  • I here kate is having a baby, hope she can still make celtic connections in january, just love her music.

  • I so couldve seen her in lincoln... damn you aiden for having a leaving party last saturday... DX

  • hello! i was wondering if anybody had the guitar chords for this song- i'm not at the stage where i can recognise them but i'd love to be able to play this!! its such a nice song, if anybody does have them please do share- they are nowhere on the internet. :(

    many thanks!!

  • I've seen the music but it somehow didn't fit with the song. The problem I think is that Kate and her guitarist at the time of this recording used an odd open tuning which I know can be found on the internet somewhere. I think if you look for the chords for The Jolly Ploughboys, you will find a site with her bizzare tuning.

    Mike

  • beautiful!

  • such a beautiful song ^_^

  • Волшебный голос и песня.

  • AAAHHHH ANDY CUTTING IS FIT WOOPWOOP

  • dogstar:

hello, its folk music! it doesnt make sense! the refrain is to encourage singing along in Olde English times =]

  • seen her live twice, she is brilliant!!! :)

  • perfect music to write a 'Gawain and the Green Knight" essay to. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Does anyone know where I can get this song? Or does anyone have it who can send it to me? Thanks :)

  • A shop?

    Kate's website?

  • theres a live version on 10

  • I suppose it depends on whether you want a theatrical performance or a musical performance.

Actually, she does seem to be looking at the audience from time to time, just not at the camera.

  • I'd love to see her live, this song raises the hairs on the back of my neck every time I hear it!

  • i love this woman

  • FAR LA LA M BA DI N DA DA N DA LANKY DOWN DILLY!

    what?

  • Yeah-yah!

(li'l jon voice application needed to enjoy comment in full.)

  • Sorry, wind in her band anymore, is what I was meant to say. Doh!

  • Sadly, she doesen't have anymore wind in her band, but she still sounds fantstic. Can't wait for the new album

  • is there someone who can tell me what is the tuning of the accordion?

  • This is an awesome assemblage: Kate Rusby, Ian Carr, John Williams, John McCusker, Michael McGoldrick, Andy Seward, et al...

  • 2:38, love that bit :D

  • If you'd seen her live you wouldn't think she was sad when she sang, in fact her chuckle is one of the most loveable things about her, and appears quite alot on stage :)

  • great song, great singer!

  • I love that it is about having sex with an ugly woman haha :D

  • Why a 'thumbs down'? It actually is about having sex with a large ugly woman, its a traditional English folk song, I have sung it on stage, I am not lying :(

  • really?

    i could believe that.

a thumbs up to balance your thumbs down!

  • HAHA!

    Seriously?

That's brilliant. xD I never thought of it like that.

  • magico !!!

  • If you like the song, why don't you try out Wheeler Streets version? Its jolly - they are a small group from Cambridge, the're very talented! Im going to put their music on my account soon if you can't find it :)

  • Beautiful and fun!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • do u know where u can get the music sheet to the violin part

  • that's a sweet song.

  • God I love her!

  • I love how this song isn't called 'Fa La lanky down dilly' ... was played Kate Underneath The Stars in Lourdes, Southern France!

  • Still sweeps me right off my feet

  • Thanks for uploading this! :0)

  • If it's possible, she's even more enthralling live, best female vocalist the UK ever produced. If this is how folk looks for the future, get me an arran and prepare my left lug for an index finger (Kate's hopefully)

  • luv dis wee song =]

    x.x.x

  • Amazing!! - swept me off my feet

  • i was brought up on kate rusby and at a very young age this has and always will be my fave song

  • My Dad also introduced me to Kate's music and ever since, I have listened to it daily. What an amazing talent she has. Good to see that Britain can still produce folk artists of this calibre. Best thing since Nick Drake in my opinion.

  • I completely agree with your tube name.

  • I love this song, i think kate has a brilliant voice and her songs are fantastic. i first heard the song "our town" from the album "sleepless" when my dad was playing it and i have loved her music ever since. Thank you so much for uploading this!

  • Born on Dec 4, 1973 in Jessops Hospital, Sheffield....actually.

  • Born in Sheffield, raised in Barnsley.

  • She was born in Shieffield...........

  • Barnsley actually :)

  • nee way man! she is a durham lass.... :)

  • I dont think being born in Sheffield, and brought up in Barnsley makes her a "Durham lass"

  • I first heard this song at school. My headteacher played this as walking in music for the special praise assembly every Friday! I haven't heard it for 7 years and it's as good as I remember!!! Thanks for posting this :-)

  • I am madly in love with Kate, so I am biased. What a fantastic song, and she has surrounded herself with magnificent musicians.

  • its so beautiful, and its live, with nothing to fix kate's voice. An Old English Ballad brought to life once again. Bravo.

  • Go on Sir Eglamore

  • the best voice i have ever heard. beautiful simply beautiful

  • Very unusual to have an english singer sing with such a beautiful folk voice. It is wonderful to hear her resurrect many of the old style english melodies. Lovely stuff.

  • not being from UK who is the Eglamore, is it just a character in just this song or does he appear in other English folklores?

  • He's a character from Gunnerkrigg Court, but then the authors a big Kate Rusby fan :)

It appears to be a old English Ballad, the earliest printing of which seems to be 1686. This version is pretty faithful to the original actually.

  • @slovakmath

From a 14thC song. So she said

  • Wow what a voice

  • i love her accent, not to mention her wonderful

  • I love kate rusby. seen her lots of times live. Love william and davey!

  • This video made me buy the song.

  • wahay, just booked to see kate for the 4th time at buxton in march, can't wait

  • very very very goood brilliant, superb, brill, exceptional

  • Saw her on monday in norwich, wifes birthday present, amazing, glad i bought the tickets for her ;-)

  • Seen her play live many times, stunning every time!

  • Rchard Varey loves this

  • is she coming to wales any time soon?

  • Been to a few of Kates shows. Excellent music and a great atmosphere. If you get chance to see her, do it before she starts popping out kids and staying at home !! This is taken from her live from leeds dvd which is great too, loads of extras. Wasn't too keen on her and ronan keatings song at first but his version of 'all over again' with some lanky american brunette was awful compared to his and Kates.

  • Horay! Not sure how many times I have to listen to this before I get tired of hearing it.

  • I've been listening to it for ten years and I'm not sick of it :) I love Kate, she's wonderful.

  • I love her music. The live recordings I have seen are not as good as what I always hear on the CD's. I believe a lot of it is nerves, because she tends to rush. Excellent music though, I love it!

  • She is truely amazing. Went to see her in Poole 13/10/07. Wow! Lovely lass. We stayed in the same hotel as them and bumped into a few band members. I was star struck! Hubby just laughed!!

She is referred to as the voice of an angel. Very true. I had goose bumps the whole way through the concert. I wanna see her again!

I love the way that when after she has performed a song she stands back from the mic and looks unworthy of her applause. So talented yet so humble.

    I adore her music!

  • i saw her theatre royal in bath... FRONT ROW!!

  • How can anybody have such a good voice? I wish that I could sing as well as her. She is truly amazing.

  • i saw her sing tht live in bath!!

  • I've heard her sing many times but have never seen her before. She is absolutely beautiful! Just like her voice!

  • 2:58 <3

  • Aww, she's smiling. :)

  • She is an angel...such a beautiful voice, sincere and true...You can truly see it in her face when she sings, from her heart, she does, a true gem!

  • gorgeous

  • I'm on the 10th row back in this....!

  • I hear Kate is on Radio 2 with Mike Harding on the 15th August - 7pm BST - worth a listen I think!

  • I love Kate Rusby ^^ I'm going to see her at Cambridge Folk Festival. I hope she plays this song.

  • I love this song! Kate and the band are awesome!!!

  • Kate Rusby has an unbelievably amazing voice!!
