Can anybody give me some advice please? I am thinking of setting up a traditional gents barbers. Can anybody point me in the right direction for laws and legislation , training certificates/health certificates needed for shaving with use of a traditional cut throat razor.
When I saw the title of this film, I knew old fashion razors are called straight razors, but I didn't know they're also called cut throat razors. I thought somebody made a YouTube video about a guy getting killed the old-fashion way by getting their throat slit in a barber's chair. "This can't end well...oh, wait a minute. It did end well, with a clean shave."
Go watch how Trumpers or Truefitt in London shave a man's face. I don't get your lather process. IMO, the lather is really weak. If I were a paying customer, I would seek a barber that could offer hot lather from an old fashioned machine. That is a real treat.
@fabio1980 he isnt a bad barber for wearing gloves, its for health and safety reason and seeing as its on the internet, ppl can see it so he needs to cover his back, i really dout he wears gloves when he does shaves whilst off film
I have never seen such a bad barber. first of all why use gloves , second you dont even know how to grab the skin to make it easyer for you , third you dont give a face massage.
@bamir1 Hygiene is #1 reason for nitrile gloves but a side benefit is gripability. You can really pull skin tight on the face with the grip of a nitrile glove.
i have a question. are you always going to feel some stubble when your run your fingers against the grain even if you achieve the perfect shave or is it going to be like there was never any hair there at all?
Hi Jason, Im a Barber ive done some cutthroat shaves which went well, i bought your dvd for some help and advice.
you say never shave against the grain, i cant see how you can get a baby soft result by going with the grain.
can you get a smooth baby soft close shave by going with the grain? if so how? or is this not the desired effect? is it more about the pampering experience?

@kathepoos Hi there, going with the grain is mainly to preserve the skin. But you can get it really close by using 'plenty of tension' and coming in at a 90 degrees angle. In other words, not with or against the grain, but sideways to the grain. Hope this helps. JS.
ok, so i want to start shaving with a straight razor cauze i don't want to pay for all those gillette , can i cut my head of my shoulders with a straight razor accidentally ?
Ok i need to get a shave by you. Where would i purchase the full version by the way. I do a lot of shaves and am always into learning better ways and techniques.
In most shaving vids the guy has no glove and on top of that, wipes the excess cream directly on his own hand. Ick! Finally someone who is concerned about health and safety.
Jason, great video. I visited your site and tried to purchase the dvd. However, the USA is not one of the countries listed on the men for address. How can I order for NY, NY, USA? Thanks.
Jason, why do you apply the cream with such an odd brush method? I'm used to either whipping up a lather in a mug or directly on the face. Do you feel you get better results with the method shown on the video?
Hey Greeterboy, the Baxter shave cream I use is a low lather cream which doesn't whip up into a big lather. Therefore the technique is mainly to get the cream below each hair to aid lubrication between hair, razor and skin.
That's what I thought. Normally that would defeat one of the main advantages of a straight blade. But maybe it's because this is a professional setting.

I never disinfect anything and I've only had like 5-6 problems from customers this year. In my opinion those people probably deserved to have infections in the first place.
i recently got a cut throat shave in turkey, my beard growth is very heavy and my neck would even bleed using an electric shaver so i use a beard trimmer instead, after the cut throat shave i never bled once and had no ingrown hair which was a first, incidentaly i only tried the shave cos i was drunk, i would recommend this type of shave to anyone.
Thanks for the comment. I prefer to use Baxter but in any case, a super badger brush will give the best distribution and results, regardless of the product used.

It's nice to see a barber actually create lather with a brush rather than using a lather machine.
wks1978 1 month ago
you could do all that or just do it Sweeney Todd style like me *btw im not an actual Barber*

Hi TranceLuvr69, if you perform the shave really well, using lots of tension, you should be able to get it really smooth.

holy shit why so much materials? all my barber uses is water and goes straight into the shave. all that stuff is too time consuming and unnecessary
Go2b3d 2 years ago
Yep!
jasonshankey 2 years ago
Not really. A shave cream tends to get the best results. The oil is too slippy and it's hard to get grip.
jasonshankey 2 years ago
Ok I'm not trying to be picky or anything just wondering.
Do you use that same shaving brush on every client!?
Is that healthy or how do you clean it?
bigphill21 2 years ago
All the brushes are sterilised, dried and rotated for use. I use about four of them.

disinfection is different than sterilization. I doubt that you could sterilize a brush, you might be able to sterilize a razor via an autoclave.
