  • Can anybody give me some advice please? I am thinking of setting up a traditional gents barbers. Can anybody point me in the right direction for laws and legislation , training certificates/health certificates needed for shaving with use of a traditional cut throat razor.

  • It's nice to see a barber actually create lather with a brush rather than using a lather machine.

  • you could do all that or just do it Sweeney Todd style like me *btw im not an actual Barber*

  • this is very informative and helpful unlike some other dvds im considering a purchase!

  • This is awesome! Thanks!

    PaceShave*com

  • 4:32 He has that look on his face like "Yeah that's right...I'm sexy" LMAO Good Video!

  • OOPS its sliped. OH SHIT I SLIT YOUR THROAT ! FUK!!! HOW DO I STOP IT!! SHIT SHIT SHIT.... OH wait! i'll seal it up with HAIR WAX!!!

  • When I saw the title of this film, I knew old fashion razors are called straight razors, but I didn't know they're also called cut throat razors. I thought somebody made a YouTube video about a guy getting killed the old-fashion way by getting their throat slit in a barber's chair. "This can't end well...oh, wait a minute. It did end well, with a clean shave."

  • Northern Irish, but thank you.

  • @jasonshankey Oh, my mistake, I am not british.

  • @jasonshankey You are scottish, aren't you? I love listening to your accent.

  • Go watch how Trumpers or Truefitt in London shave a man's face. I don't get your lather process. IMO, the lather is really weak. If I were a paying customer, I would seek a barber that could offer hot lather from an old fashioned machine. That is a real treat.

  • Yes it is.

  • Is this a trailer?

  • @fabio1980 he isnt a bad barber for wearing gloves, its for health and safety reason and seeing as its on the internet, ppl can see it so he needs to cover his back, i really dout he wears gloves when he does shaves whilst off film

  • that guy looks so lost

  • I have never seen such a bad barber. first of all why use gloves , second you dont even know how to grab the skin to make it easyer for you , third you dont give a face massage.

  • Not what I thought it was gonna be...

  • Gloves?. Bad barbier you are!!!!!.

  • Don't call that pos a cut throat, it's a freaking shavette

  • Would love to try it for a chance. So bored of using the Mach 3!

  • i think i'd pass.

  • whats the perpose of using the glove? just hygiene?

  • @bamir1 Yes, it's just for hygiene reasons.

  • @bamir1 Hygiene is #1 reason for nitrile gloves but a side benefit is gripability. You can really pull skin tight on the face with the grip of a nitrile glove.

  • Hi TranceLuvr69, if you perform the shave really well, using lots of tension, you should be able to get it really smooth.

  • i have a question. are you always going to feel some stubble when your run your fingers against the grain even if you achieve the perfect shave or is it going to be like there was never any hair there at all?

  • Hi thanks for responding so quickly. sorry i posted so many times, it looked like it wasnt posting so i kept clicking!

I will give it a go thanks for the advice.

  • Hi Jason, Im a Barber ive done some cutthroat shaves which went well, i bought your dvd for some help and advice.

you say never shave against the grain, i cant see how you can get a baby soft result by going with the grain.

can you get a smooth baby soft close shave by going with the grain? if so how? or is this not the desired effect? is it more about the pampering experience?

  • @kathepoos Hi there, going with the grain is mainly to preserve the skin. But you can get it really close by using 'plenty of tension' and coming in at a 90 degrees angle. In other words, not with or against the grain, but sideways to the grain. Hope this helps. JS.

  • ok, so i want to start shaving with a straight razor cauze i don't want to pay for all those gillette , can i cut my head of my shoulders with a straight razor accidentally ?

  • @kingofdice66 Only once.

  • @ArseneWenger12891 b4 u start 2 use straight razor its good to practice using it on a balloon and not letting the balloon pop

  • holy shit why so much materials? all my barber uses is water and goes straight into the shave. all that stuff is too time consuming and unnecessary

  • Yep!

  • Not really. A shave cream tends to get the best results. The oil is too slippy and it's hard to get grip.

  • Ok I'm not trying to be picky or anything just wondering.

Do you use that same shaving brush on every client!?

Is that healthy or how do you clean it?

  • All the brushes are sterilised, dried and rotated for use. I use about four of them.

  • Lol, i just watched Sweeny todd yesterday, i wonder if hes ever made a shaving guide lol

  • do u guys cut yourselfs alot with these straight razors??

  • No, I don't remember ever having cut myself with one.

  • Today was my firts time, i cut my check kinda bad, so be very careful round your neck. That's all I can say.

  • wow hes like ya the badger brush gives u a great lather. he didnt make lather....

  • didnt notice that at first brah....ill stick with my williams soap...

  • 4:29 is epic.

  • OH GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!! BRITISH

  • irish.

  • sorry...hes Irish

  • Irish is also British. Part of the UK last time I checked.

  • You may be thinking of Northern Ireland.

If you walk into an irish pub and call them british...you'll be lucky to walk out with your bollocks intact.

  • All I'm saying is what is on the whole and technically speaking.

  • Not even northern ireland is british. It's the united kindom of great britan AND northern ireland. See the seperation.

  • WTF! This guy didn't even cut his throat at the end! What a bunch of crap!

  • Brought to you by the Baxter corporation.

  • Awesome shave,

Post more of these & haircuts too.

  • 1:54 - 1:58

    OMG amazing to watch (L)

  • Ok i need to get a shave by you. Where would i purchase the full version by the way. I do a lot of shaves and am always into learning better ways and techniques.

  • In most shaving vids the guy has no glove and on top of that, wipes the excess cream directly on his own hand. Ick! Finally someone who is concerned about health and safety.

  • Jason so wanted to shave that guys pubic hair :-)

Anyway, I bought 7 copies of the DVD's and my friend love them. So professional.

  • Jason, great video. I visited your site and tried to purchase the dvd. However, the USA is not one of the countries listed on the men for address. How can I order for NY, NY, USA? Thanks.

  • Jason, why do you apply the cream with such an odd brush method? I'm used to either whipping up a lather in a mug or directly on the face. Do you feel you get better results with the method shown on the video?

  • Hey Greeterboy, the Baxter shave cream I use is a low lather cream which doesn't whip up into a big lather. Therefore the technique is mainly to get the cream below each hair to aid lubrication between hair, razor and skin.

  • H+S bud so it only the blade and glove should cum into contact with the customer

  • Hi there, type DVD into the search box at jasonshankey-dot-co-dot-uk. That should bring it up.

  • I went to the website and I didn't find any info on a DVD on Shaving?

  • That's what I thought. Normally that would defeat one of the main advantages of a straight blade. But maybe it's because this is a professional setting.

  • yeah its for the sanitary reasons.

  • OMG im amazed at how close it looks, i need to throw away my mach 3 and pick this up

  • lol...

  • It's a matter of taste only, but I think that missing out on swirling up fresh lather is cheating.

  • i recently got a cut throat shave in turkey, my beard growth is very heavy and my neck would even bleed using an electric shaver so i use a beard trimmer instead, after the cut throat shave i never bled once and had no ingrown hair which was a first, incidentaly i only tried the shave cos i was drunk, i would recommend this type of shave to anyone.

  • You were drunk when you used a cut throat? I would be a crimson mess if I did that.

  • he most likely just got it done at a barber's shop. i dont think he ment he did it himself

  • looks like fun to go in and get a pro to shave u

  • At the end, the customer is thinking: "I forget why I always come here. I ALWAYS end up leaving with ridiculous sideburns!"

  • disinfection is different than sterilization. I doubt that you could sterilize a brush, you might be able to sterilize a razor via an autoclave.

  • A nice video, but I have to ask why you mention making a lather with the badger brush but then use a non lathering cream like Baxters.

  • Thanks for the comment. I prefer to use Baxter but in any case, a super badger brush will give the best distribution and results, regardless of the product used.

  • u from northern ireland by any chance?

  • oh my god look at me in this lol

  • you have ridiculous sideburns in this video, snippy1983.

  • ya i know but i fixed them afterwords

  • lol ok

  • and hi done it for the money lol
