I don't like it when people use 'Emo' and 'Depressed' interchangeably. My best friend makes fun of me for listening to Bright Eyes and refers to it as emo music. Maybe my definition's off, but I think of emo as a sort of commercialized angst, or at least a fashion movement. Just because the man writes sad lyric doesn't mean he's emo.

I always cringe when I hear them say Conor is an "Emo Icon."

But if you've seen the documentary Spend an Evening With Saddle Creek, Conor says Desaparecidos is just one of those things he wants to do to keep things fresh. He's always trying to do something new and to keep being creative.

I love the folkier Mystic Valley Band. It seems like he feels really comfortable doing that, so all the power in the world to him.

I am absolutely disgusted by the name of the band. The word desaparecidos has a very special meaning for South Americans. It means all the people that the military governments took and killed. They vanished and their families still do not have closure because their bodies were never found.  Somebody should do some research before using a name

The people in S.A. dissapeared due to their ideals, it is not just an event it is a way of living. And at least based on this interview the band has no common denominator with the people that suffered oppresion in the 70's.

kiiiids, it's not conor's new band. this was his band before and during the early bright eyes. it was basically his band with his buddies at home in omaha, they're broken up now 'cause he chose to concentrate on bright eyes. they started when he was pretty young im pretty sure 'cause i have this bootleg cd of them and i think theyre all about 14 or 15 just fucking around in the garage haha, barely gone through puberty. you can tell the difference in conor's voice.
