Thanks very much for your comment zweerver. I, however, cannot say that I agree with you that I write well. I had to practice a full page before filming. In fact filming is my excuse for learning it. And I learn along the way while I'm filming. I hope you film some of your practices--they would surely be better than mine. I am not a student of akkadian and sumerian but merely a hobbyist. I am no longer with FAS so all of this is just for fun.
i wonder how u learnt the writing so well :) i've been studying akkadian and sumerian for a long time, but still the writing not coming out easily :( one great frustration, especially when u need to prepare for translating short passages into akkadian in final papers, which i haven't, but will once :s
Hi. Thanks for your question. Akkadian cuneiform is not the same as Sumerian. Sumerian came before Akkadian. Supposedly one is syllabic and the other is more logographic, if that makes any sense? Of course, you experts out there, please feel free to correct me.
@bluenail90 Hi! You are so right. This was one of my first videos I made about writing in Akkadian. I use a Flip for convenience--pretty low end. Sorry! :) Hope it's still useful.
Thanks Makibaal! That's very interesting about the proximity of the languages. I've always wondered about the arabic language. I'll have to look at your channel. I know Akkadian has many modern predecessors. Thanks for your comment.
I am arab and I am very interested in the old middle east, I make phoenician and punic videos on my channel because I am lebanese I am phoenician, canaanite
bahsh or bash means to be ashamed in phoenician language, bush means shame in phoenician langauge, in arabic we have "bath" meaning to be ashamed, in ugaritic it is bahth or bath too,in aramaic bat or but,
its clear akkadian, phoenician and ugaritic,aramaic,arabic are all semitic langauges. :)
thank you this is cool

@GiskAkina
Hey, just wondering where you learned Akkadian cuneiform.
Did you take an arts course at university majoring in ancient semitic languages or something?

It's sad that not many people are interested in these beautiful ancient languages.
