First off, Letterman is a comedian. Comedians are allowed to parody and satirize public figures. Letterman may have been in poor taste, but he was making a joke as part of his monologue. Imus, on the other hand, is not a comedian and was making a racially offensive comment about a college female basketball team. This is apples and oranges, not apples and apples.

In order to have such protection under the law, you have to be established as a Comedian. Letterman has been making a living as a comedian since the mid-70s and has hosted this show since 1993. He was within his rights, even if the joke was in poor taste. Imus, on the other hand, was not a comedian and was not even telling a joke. He could have been sued for his comments. Letterman could not. I am stating the legal situation. You don't seem to grasp that.

He didn't say "I knocked up Palin's daughter," in which case the pedophile comments would be justified. The joke was about someone else doing the deed. I have watched Dave all of his career, he is not a "perve" or anything even close. He told a joke, it was not in good taste but it is being used now by the right wing fanatics. Dave is a caring and very intelligent person who has done more for people by his humor and commentary than any other comic I know of. Everyone says or does something they regret. First off, Letterman is a comedian. Comedians are allowed to parody and satirize public figures. Letterman may have been in poor taste, but he was making a joke as part of his monologue. Imus, on the other hand, is not a comedian and was making a racially offensive comment about a college female basketball team. This is apples and oranges, not apples and apples.

In order to have such protection under the law, you have to be established as a Comedian. Letterman has been making a living as a comedian since the mid-70s and has hosted this show since 1993. He was within his rights, even if the joke was in poor taste. Imus, on the other hand, was not a comedian and was not even telling a joke. He could have been sued for his comments. Letterman could not. I am stating the legal situation. You don't seem to grasp that.

The estimate of the actual crowd of protesters is between 35 and 45 people, given the time. There was no movement, no crowd of protesters, no mighty force rising up against Dave. Huge turnout...what a joke. Had more people at my house for a birthday party.

I bet they also stated that nobody phoned in 2 Lettermans advertisers 2 complain/ And no advertisers removed any ads from his show.
How then do you explain SouthWest Airlines, Embassy Suites,Hellman's,

No, they covered the advertiser fallout quite extensively. Just like they covered the non-protest outside of the Sullivan Theater. I love how all of you right wing cry babies, when faced with the facts that the media provide, fall back on the "They're all in Obama's pocket" defense. No, the papers reported the facts as they really happened. This protest was a joke.

But I guess that with even the few joker protesters & jokers who sign petition or jokers who have called advertisers I guess we have accomplished alot by comparison.
A handful of protesters that you have only seen on t.v. plus the ppl who have signed the petition have reduced advertising on Letterman & thats a great statement/

First, if you think that your little sect of crazies had anything to do with Letterman's losing advertisers, you are wrong. The companies took it upon themselves to do so because they feared a backlash. Now, seeing how Letterman's ratings have actually improved since all of this nonsense began, they are probably kicking themselves for it. Letterman has survived this and will continue on. CBS has no plans on letting him go and he'll be here past 2012 but Palin won't.
