'The acting voice', wie Walter Legge ihn charakterisierte, wirkt zuweilen etwas scharftönig.

He changes his voice, once in falsetto, in it's really in the spirit of Figaro and the opera. His "a"'s are too open on high G and other high notes, though
non so perche tito gobbi lo abbia cantato mzzo tono sopra, so solo pero che questuomo ha una voce bellissima.provate a sentire gli altri cantanti che fanno la cavatina, fanno schifo!

This is the benchmark to judge all other Figaros on this area, not only for singing, but acting, expression and creativity.

Forgot to point this.. Gobbi was such a perfectionist, that he even studied the habits and customs of the period. At 1:40 he goes to what is probably Virgin's Mary image, touches the candle and makes a cross signal. This is customary of Spanish speaking countries. Is it common in Italy?
wysiwyg248 4 years ago
Italy, as in, home base of the Catholic Church. No, I can't imagine why they would make the sign of the cross there.
But the point is moot, because, as I would think you would know, Seville is a major city in SPAIN.

Geri97,
If you were raised in Spain or Latin America, you make the Cross Signal every time you pass a church or in front of a Saint Image. Unless you lived there, you wouldn't know. I asked if this is also a custome in Italy, if is not, then Gobi studied the habits before preparing for this part.
