@Lewelltam Of course it's allowed. So is spitting in public : C }
One of the greatest aspects of XTC was the huge range of material they generated (past tense... sniff), covering so much stylistic ground that the odds are there's plenty of songs that may not float ones boat. Hate? I dunno...
Colin is probably not digging that diarrhea of the guitar Andy was trying to run over the song. The eventual release got it so right. That Wave would have made a great performance piece of XTC were a live band and had the overhead of a Floyd. That Wave going into "Then She Appeared" is one of rock music's heights--deserves to be remembers but it's a secret to us XTC maniacs.
To those that have commented on Colin in this video...
I have no great insight into Colin's mindset, but having followed these guys since 1979, and having seen loads of video of them, this seems to be his general demeanor when playing. I would say that by his body language in this video, he is into it more that his facial expression might indicate. I'm guessing that it has more to do with him being filmed and not liking it.
@mensamoo ..Ringo is a one of the worst drummers ever to call himself such and was the worst drummer in The Beatles! So what i'm getting at is your comment seems to suggest that Colin Moulding is an inferior bass player who should think himself lucky to have been a member of XTC. Could you be any further off the mark if you tried? He's an extremely clever melodic bass player not to mention a great singer and song writer and was a great asset to XTC alongside the other highly talented members.
I wonder, seeing Dave and Colin in this, if they somehow knew that they'd have to be working unskilled jobs over the next few years to make ends meet because they hadn't sufficient income coming in to pay the bills. And just how wrong is that?
Even if Gus shot some of the footage, apparently Virgin HATED Gus's mix of the album and was canned for the final cut, which Andy Partridge and engineer Nick Davis re-mixed to Virgin's approval.
Fantastic, Hope there's more. Oh, and by the way, if you're going to use the word "intelligence" as an accolade, you might want to look uo the proper spelling before posting it.

I wish there were video of the "The Wag" studio outtake, where Andy starts doing funny voices and impressions of The Cure, Bob Dylan and The Smiths peforming this song.
@siralexandergibson Yes, it's so bad it's worse than good pop. And by good pop I mean Brittany Spears. But strangely, being worse than good pop is actually being better than bad pop, which is also Brittany Spears. So Andy Partirdge must have evolved into Brittany Spears via an Argentinian sex-change.. QED.
Well done Kettering. Yes - still in Londres. Old Forum is still 'out of order' but Blushift started XTCbackporch if you want to join. Much luv n stuff.
Seriously! What a great find! This is one of my top 3 fave XTC songs ever, and I certainly never thought I'd see actual footage of the recording session. Thank you SO MUCH, lumpytwangage, for posting this!
Back in the Steam Age, before bit-torrenting rose up out of the swamp, there was the nefarious world of tape trading, spurred on by some subscribers of the XTC fanzines, The Little Express and Limelight.
Thank you so much for posting this! "Nonsuch" is an album that changed my life and is my personal favorite. This song is just terrific and it's a treat to see them bang it out, especially knowing how trippy it is on record.
You're quite welcome. Yeah, this track is definitely one of the highlights of Nonsuch, along with Rook, Humble Daisy... amongst others. I'm always a fool for seeing/hearing demos/production versions of stuff that I love.
I assume these were Nonesuch sessions. Super cool. When is XTC going to record again? They belong on the UK pantheon of bands along with the Beatles, Stones, Who, Zep, Radiohead and maybe a few others.
@letdown201 Belated response to your question "When is XTC going to record again?": Andy has stated that XTC will not be recording or performing again, that none of them likely want to work together again. A shame, I know but nothing lasts forever.
I love XTC. I hate this song.
It's allowed folks. Don't take Youtube comments so personally.

They look rather bored or unhappy ( e.g. Colin Moulding 2@ 1:27!) What's wrong?!

Moulding never smiles, even tho he's luckier than Ringo.
