  • I can play this on flute and trumpet it is one of my favorites!:)

  • many people dont realize this, the reason we like movies, is because of the feelings it gives us. when you love something, you get a happy feeling, the same feeling you get when you reach the end of the LOTR series and this song is played. that is why i love this movie.

  • J.R.R. Tolkien would be proud.

  • i love this song

  • Who could dislike this song? It's beautiful!

  • Unbelievable. 143 dislikes. Send these foul creatures into the abyss.

  • The "why do the white gulls call" bit made me cry, I lost my brother and he really meant everything to me I wasn't sure of going on with life. But my boyfriend just gave me the will to live on. I known him since ober seven years and we're even thinking of marriage. I still think it's hard to live on without him. RIP Chris.

  • @TheTweetbirdie makes sense, the song was written in part as a tribute to a young filmmaker that Jackson had befriended who had passed away from cancer. when the soul of a song is so true it transcends boundaries and we see the truth of it

  • this makes me cry at the end of lord of the rings

  • All my friends thinks this song is boring, but I think its amazing!!

  • Hebo estel. Avo acheno. Ná Elbereth veria le, ná elenath dín síla erin rád o chuil lín.

Have hope. Don't look back. May Elbereth protect you, may her stars shine on the path of your life.

  • If you like this, you'll like "Use Well the Days", too. This replaced it, but it can still be found- and it's very good.

  • was played at my uncles funeral as the certain closed on his coffin. He loved lord of the rings and fantasy, and never really escaped from it. Was a perfect fitting for it, we even place a sword on top of the coffin like the knights of old. Was a moving ceremony

  • this song completes my soul... its hard to explain

  • me recuerda a navidad

  • so good

    !! love lotr

  • sucha good song

  • My father-in-law-to-be died suddenly less than a year ago. This song has been ever since the one song that helps me cope with the loss. And the one which allows me to weep, cry and mourn. What a pity.

  • there should be a longer version.

  • Probably one of the best songs I heard in a very long time...

  • Beautiful...simply beautiful.

  • A perfect song to say goodbye and start on a new journey. I want this to play at my funeral.

  • I listened to this whilst reading the last few pages of Inheritance. It was beautiful and sad at the same time.

  • @moscow3times If Inheritance is a movie, this song really should play in the end credits. It fits the ending so well.

  • This song always brings tears to my eyes. Every time.

  • what's the matter with those 141 who clicked the dislike button ?

  • I hope the hobbit movie gives me the same feeling

  • @DrunKEnShad0w2 You do know there are going to be 2 Hobbit movies right? The first is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the second is The Hobbit: There and Back Again. I really can't wait to see them because they are going to expand on the story of the Hobbit. They are adding in things that were happening at the time but were never really talked about.

  • truly stunning

  • The first LOTR movie came out 10 years ago today. Has it really been that long?

  • @LukasVerdansky i'm afraid so but i wish they made a new LOTR movie every year

  • I like to have rough sex with hobbits. UBUNTU

  • can t wait The Hobit

  • Did anyone watch the special features in this movie? You should, Find out how this song was trully made. RIP Cameron Duncan

  • this song is gold

  • 140 dislikes those ppl hav no taste in music this was my sons funeral song it was perfect and just 4 him so u 140 ppl get stuffed.

  • @ethan19981974

Taste has nothing to do with it, because we're not talking about ice cream flavors. It has to do with knowledge These people don't know music.

  • Just bought the bluray extended editions for my mom. So good to have these amazing movies back on our shelf :)

  • I'm a die hard metal fan, and this song brings me to tears. This is truly a masterpiece, and it fits the mood of that scene in the movie so well. Truly brilliant. I love Lord of The Rings so much.

  • I was playing a game... And i stood at the edge of the water looking into the west, and sure enough there was a light on the horizon...

I love this song and lord of the rings, it teaches so much the you forget your learnt it

  • why would someone look this up and disklike this

  • One of the best songs EVER.

  • Beautiful, just beautiful!!!!!

  • Best Song to complete this trilogy

  • Comment removed

  • thumbs up if you thing Lord Of The Rings is best movie ever !!!

  • Makes me think on that big 777 which will take me back home...across the sea

  • This song reminds me of The Never Ending Story for odd reasons.

  • @toocoolforu Damn that flying dog scared the hell out of me when i was yound...such a pedo.

  • @toocoolforu it's kinda similar...Atreyu is fighting the Nothing and Frodo is fighting Sauron

  • @mateo8777 cept never ending story was a shit movie and lord of the rings return of the king won ELEVEN oscars, every single one it was nominated for

  • @SwimmmingFishy Read that as Elven oscars... that would have been awesome.... >.>

  • Ubuntu likes to have rough sex with hobbits. UBUNTU UBUNTU!!!!

  • This is the song that inspired my to sing and join the choir.

  • @StalwartArab You're joking, right...?

  • Sometimes songs get awarded for being "good" just because they were part of a movie or franchise that many people that was "historic" but honestly, I think that this song is brilliant, and I love it a tonne.

  • @StalwartArab People like you should return to Angband to serve your Lord Morgoth

  • love annie lennox. especially her tunes from the 80s!

  • sends chills down my spine everytime i hear it...so beautiful

  • The lord of the rings is not finish

  • Pippin - I didn't think it would end this way..

Gandalf - End? No the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The gray rain-curtain of this world rolls back and all turns to silver glass. And then you see it ... white shores and the beyond. A far green country under a swift sunrise.

  • As someone who aspires to be a filmmaker, I always get a little sad when I watch the Lord of the Rings, because I realize that more likely than not I will never be able to make something this incredible. I can only hope that one day my dreams come true and others can feel the way they do watching Lord of the Rings when they watch my films

  • I'll leave just one request for my family in the testament: to play this song on my funeral.

  • so moving when this played at the ending credits of return of the king... cried during the whole thing...

  • This song... it makes me feel so serene. Like, I'm not sad, but not happy. Just content with the recent craziness that is my life. Lord of the Rings is definitely one of those films that can get you through the tough times.

  • @RSVJosephV WHAT?!

  • I was kind of worried that the world might end before "The Hobbit" because it is going to be released in 2012, but then I realized that I will be able to see it because it will be what bring upon the end times. The planet will crumble under it's awesomeness and those who watch it will have their faces melted "Raiders of the Lost Ark Style" by its greatness. I will die a content faceless man.

  • Superb! *sigh*

  • My mother was recently murdered by her boyfriend.. She loved this song, so this was her burial song.. I can't stop listening to it now.. Rest in peace mumma. 07/01/61 - 18/10/11 <3

  • @CarmaBITCH My condolences to you and your family. I hope everything ends up well for you.

  • @LoveAndHearts0 Thank you <3 Hard process with court cases, and our emotions flying high.. Im the youngest of 5, so atleast i've got the support of my older siblings.

  • @CarmaBITCH o_o sry for your loss

  • @CarmaBITCH thats horrible. im so sorry for your loss.....i hope justice prevals.....praying for your family.......

  • @RafikiGurl123 I also hope justice prevals.. His plea is under 2 weeks, and if he pleas not guilty, his proper court won't be for about 18months.. Just wasnt to see his ass thrown in jail so he can never see daylight again.

  • @CarmaBITCH a life for a life to bad thats not leagel

  • @CarmaBITCH I'm very sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace, but as Gandalf says: ''Death is just another path, one that we all must take''. You'll be with her again, one day. There in the Grey Havens, you will be together. Forever.

  • @CarmaBITCH <3

  • @CarmaBITCH sorry for ya...

  • @CarmaBITCH reallü? :O

  • I remember singing this last year in choir. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it and I wish I could have a recording of our choir singing it. It was breathtaking to hear.

  • I remember this song being on twilight, such a good film.

  • there are only a few songs out there, that send a tingling feeling down my spine and bring a tear to my eye............ this is one of them :)

  • "...the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it... White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise."

  • I'm crying for my brother who is dying of cancer. He is going to the other side now. It's so hard to say goodbye.

  • This is an incredible song to fall asleep to

  • the ships have come to carry you home...

  • What an incredibly beautiful and crystaline voice. The words remind me to live life with an eye to being able to face death with pride and a sense of accomplishment. Far from that at this point. Much work to do..

  • najlepsza piosenka z caaaałej płytki

  • MINHA INFANCIA!!! EU VIVI ESTA MUSICA EU VIVI SENHOR DOS ANÉIS,mas acabou, está vindo o hobbit mas nao eh a mesma sensação que quando eu vi na epoca o senhor dos aneis.

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU SAW EVERY LORD OF THE RINGS FILM I THE CINEMA!!!!

  • This song was so perfect for the end <3 I was crying... haha

  • When I listen to this song, it stuns me. It's amazing.

  • they need to have the extended return of the king 4hrs!!!!! back in cinema

  • As Dr. Cox from Scrubs says: I wanna have sex with this moment. T___T

  • goosebumps. every time.

  • A tremendously hopeful tale. Tolkien has caused me to believe there may yet be some hope for the West. We are not doomed to decay and destruction.

  • I got into a few long months of deep depression when I turned thirteen and realized I was eventually going to die. Everything seemed pointless and nothing made me happy. Then I re-watched Return of the King with my dad. Listening to this song didn't change my outlook, but the sense of hope it brought was the start of my recovery ^-^ Now I firmly believe in good, that there is a point to life and that some things are worth dying for.

  • @squidloveful heartwarming. id like to think this song stole a piece of my soul and it will live on for as long as others hear it.

  • @squidloveful

Just what I needed to read right now man. x

  • @squidloveful Amen Bro Amen :D

  • @squidloveful you'll have to face death eventually. lives too short to worry about the inevitible. instead, try to enjoy it while you can.

  • @squidloveful

I don't know if this helps and I apologize if it doesn't, but opposites while opposing each other also give each other value and definition.

A lot of people fear death and dying, and so seek to forget it by drown it out in everyday life. I've always thought that it is a reminder to me that all thing are finite and should be respected and enjoyed while they last.

Keep living for you are appreciated.

  • @adamkbl81 Totally what I think now, man. Life is short, that's what makes it significant!

  • @squidloveful mein church a pray cirle we have are praying for u ! sorry my english all mien love Herman6644, and ther r Angels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @squidloveful wish you the very best.

  • @squidloveful -- You have just put your finger on part of the infinite value of high fantasy such as The Lord of the Rings. It brings glory to life.

  • @squidloveful check out the Manhattan Beach project.

Soon it will be possible to never die.

  • @squidloveful

Do you believe in some sort of Order to the Universe? A creation by something with incredible knowledge and power?

I can't even imagine the amount of power and light in a gamma ray burst several billion light years away that can be seen by the naked eye. Or for that fact that every galaxy has a super massive black hole in its center keeping all the stars and planets from separating randomly in every direction sustaining life on our planet.

  • @squidloveful well at least ur age on u site is 18 ;)

  • @squidloveful I hear you mate.. i'm going trough the same thing, except i'm 19. It's been hard to cope with that idea, but i'm working on it, thanks for sharing your experience, it helps alot.

  • @squidloveful You should watch them all 3, hope your doing well today b

  • Thumbs Up for The Hobit comming in 2012!

  • @Jimmix13 this song was my sons funeral song it was going to to be mine he was 10 years old when he died you have a lot to live for yet young one

  • @ethan19981974

Sry man i feel so bad! R.I.P! :(

  • @Jimmix13 i was hoping they would make a elf movie or a prequel to lord of the ring

  • I always thought this was a guy, lol

  • @Moonlar1001 you are not alone. I have always thought this was a guy and i figured he would be attractive so i googled it. Annie Lennox is what I found.

  • @marshmallowwoman it's really Annie Lennox? I'm surprised cos I never really liked annie lennox that much. Although, I think she suits this song

  • Is this a guy or chick singing?

  • @DarkSwan641 chick

  • I just realised that this soulful voice was the one who sand Sweet Dreams (are Made Of This) in Eurythmics......wow!

  • exactley 7 years ago, Cameron Duncan passed away..

  • The story behind this song is the most powerful thing about it... that and Annie Lennox voice, Howard knew what the hell he was doing when he picked her to sing his song.

  • Beautiful song at the end of the best trilogy ever made..perfect ending.. <3

  • I remember having a LOTR marathon with my friends. We spend a whole day to watch the trilogy (extended) and when ROTK was finished, it was dark outside and this song was playing. It was so epic. I miss that.

  • @Linthediel thats awesome. (not sarcasm)

  • Thank You Pandora! I love this song, first time I heard it, couldn't get it out of my head. Plus, I love the Lord of the Rings (who doesn't??!) so this is my "getting ready to go out" music. XP

  • Could you please add lyrics to the description. It would be much appreciated. Everyone please thumbs up so dogsrule3444 will see.

  • i dont remember this being in the film?

  • Comment removed

  • @danielson2k9 It was in the credits at the end :) best song from the film

  • @danielson2k9 credits, and some non-vocal instrumental versions were used in some parts, mostly when frodo and sam were laying out of the mountain. at least as far as i can fully remember. i know for sure its in the credits.

  • Just wait they are making magic again. Hobbit I can't wait!

  • @moterra666 YESSS!! I'm sooo waiting for it to come out...

  • Sam was always right. There's still some good in the world, and its worth fighting for

  • No other movie brought as much emotion as Lord of the Rings.

    All hail the King!

  • Lord of the Rings has such a great soundtrack. I can't wait for An Unexpected Journey next December 2012. I hope they get Howard Shore to do the score again. If not, I'm sure whoever Peter Jackson gets will be really good.

  • first time i leanred it was a chick who sang this i was like WTF? it sounds more like a soft male singer like James blunt.

  • I will be waiting for you in the West, my dear Wei. Farewell.

  • honest to god the most beautiful song I have EVER heard in my life.

It is very difficult not to cry every time I listen to it. <3

  • everything must fade...like the beauty of the elves...but they will never be forgotten by each and every one of us

  • This song will be, at least for me, one of the greatest soundtrack song I have ever heard.

  • I watched Return of the King today and was about to turn it off when the credits came on, but then I heard this song and was instantly drawn to it! This song is so amazing!

  • I was looking for a really long time for this and now when i found it I can't even describe how blessed I am. Last time I heard this I was ten years old and I couldn't understand the lyrics but this song still touched me. Now I'm crying because all those memories when I was running trought the forest with wooden stick screaming to my friend "Aragorn, there is another orc!" good times, good times (':

  • @Lucifer95100 absolutely...never let go of the little kid in you who likes to have fun, and you'll be young when you have your grandchildren at your feet and clamouring for you to read stories to them..and they'll see you are young inside! :-)

  • @danivarius you are right. I'll never grow old inside :)

  • @Lucifer95100 neither do I, my lovely sister :)

  • @SiChul23 mee pois gayface :D

  • @Lucifer95100 okay james ;D

  • @SiChul23 :B

  • Happy birthday dad and also, R.I.P.

  • @petersrg2 earlier this summer they had them in theaters one more time before they released the extended editions on bluray. i went to all of them and it was amazing. sorry you didnt hear about it

  • Or is it when the elves are Going west...?

  • This is for the credits right?

  • @cbrme97 Yes

  • Every time I hear the chorus I shed tears and hairs stand behind my back and those vocals touching and mesmerising.

  • I feel sorry for people who will go there entire life without hearing this captivating masterpiece...

  • All hail lord Tolkien!

  • I want this song played at my funeral.

  • when i was little i remembered watching return of the king in theaters, i was at the movies yesterday, just seeing a movie, and i just pictured to seen with aragorn getting Anduril, and i said gosh i would kill to see the lord of the rings in theaters, i wish i could enjoyed it more and realized what i was watching, and i told myself, one more chance..one more chance with the hobbit...but im gonna ask the movie theater manager if he can play at least one lord of the rings for me....just one.....

  • When I watch this I always think "Just one more time" And I end up watching it 10 times
