Hey dude... love the message. Could you please check out our channel by the way? We're an independent band from up here in Canada and just got our VLog going. Maybe you could be our first subscriber? Cheers!
i agree with this 100% my bands doing everything DIY rite now. and there is deffently a lot of bands in the pop punk genre that do this kind of DIY stuff
man i agree with you record labels are outdated and obsolete. We should all work to break free of the power they have over what gets played and heard, thats the power that the internet has... to level the playing field. To make it so artists get popular becuase they make good music and not because its taylored to radio and plugged away by a corporate label.
thank u so much. in the process of starting a band called Toxic Winter, a Metal band in VA Beach. this helped me notice that a record label is the worst thing i could possibly do for my band. Thanks :)
I think Myspace and Facebook (particularly the band app) have helped a little bit, but yeh a site like that would be amazing. I havent got a band yet but finding shows is definitely what would be the hardest, so i site like this would be just perfect. Immortal Technique is independent and doing great. This band called Warpath are also doing pretty good without being signed, so it can be done.
kkinda of late commenting but u have to remeber no one is guna give their music out once they kno they are good either way they are goin to try n get signed
....I love you. haha no but seriously this helped me lot. I have a few plans for a band, but I'm going to have to start from scratch when I'm at least 22-23, and I was worried about this stuff, but thanks a lot :D
Major labels don't care about Artists(regardless of what they or their reps say or their fake lipsyncing performers who are wannabe artists!) they care about stealing your voice your music & controlling everything & everyone you interact with all from a distance they use gang stalking & cultish techniques they hire PIs to bug you out from arsehole to breakfast time, Run!!! because when they're done with you they kill you so u cant litigate them later down the track if u cotton & call a lawyer.
Furthermore, nothing that a label requires their artist to do is paid by the artist. An artist doesn't pay to tour. They do pay for the tour bus if they wish to use one because it is a luxury. Artists are independent contractors; much like construction workers. Construction workers have to buy their own tools and machines, their employer simply pays for their services and building supplies. Labels pay bands to build their house and labels live in it. Bands then move on to the next project.
We truly enjoy your video. You make plenty of valid points. However, it almost seems as if you underestimate what a label truly does for its artist or even the amount of time and money a label actually invests. Artists who leave labels in debt are irresponsible; much like the rappers who spend their advances on material luxuries and not their music careers. You can't blame the labels for giving their artists financial freedom.
good video...i try to encourage unknowns to market their own music...music isn't about fame and stardom....music is about art...real artists dont' want to be slaves for evil azz record labels!
I absolutely agree with you, and I think that if just a few good men were willing to cooperate we could make this happen. I have had the same idea as yours regarding a website where bands and locations can come together and "work something out", but unfortunately I do not have that kind of skills or contacts, but maybe I'll look around a little and see what can be done just for research.
Anyways, I enjoyed watching this and I would love to hear more in-depth thoughts as well :)
Great vid, love your ideas and agree with them fully.
Just wanted to point out that there are labels that support Creative Commons and let the bands have their rights, they act like that "extra member" for a small(er) fee. So ALL labels aren't evil:)
Oh, and I just watched the whole vid. You're totally right! I hope record labels get phased out some day (soon). They're terrible and completely unnecessary in today's internet age.
What I like to see is when some independent artists found their own record label to release their own music under.
@SuicidalComedian LOL It comes from Nickelodeons' "The Adventures of Pete and Pete" Something that young pete did a lot. It's something I do at the opening of most of my videos.
@ RaiderX XD Thanks man. I love that show, The plots lay right on the line very theoretically possible and then uses our suspension of disbelieve to take it well past that. It also has extremely vibrant cinematography, the only other thing I have seen that compares is "Clerks 2" and maybe original willy wonka. Also episodes "Don't Tread on Pete" & "Grounded for Life" have great libertarian themes.

I could not say it better myself. Read any interview with Tom Warrior or Malefic, and you'll know record labels are parasites.
