  • I love it there. So nice.

  • 2-6-0 9 needs a new boiler and air compressor if it can run again. the loop recently aquirred a mexican 2-8-0 (baldwin) and shay 9 will be leased for 7-10 years for 2-6-2 12 which will go to the midwest central railroad

  • @ people accidentally missed the like button.

  • I was there when you filmed that, last car behind 12.I haven't riden the loop for a few years now, but it has always had a special place in the heart. I was recently at CRRM where the shays and the rest f the equpment are kept and I was lucky enough to get a cab-ride in either 12 or 14 (I forget which one) wich has always been a drream. I hope you can get out the CRRM and see them if you haven't; it is a trip down memory lane. Love the video!

  • @jack4trains & its a shame 12 & 14 arent up on the highbridge where they belong, I havent been up to the loop since they left

  • @jack4trains have you heard that the colorado railroad museum has restored previous georgetown loop locomotive # 40 to beautiful operating condition and are going to use it for this year's trick or treat train?

  • @skybluedragonator No I didn't here about that. I usually get the CRRM's newsletters, but I haven't taken the time to read them recently

  • My father was working for Greek railwas, so I had the opportunity to travel all over Greece with lovely trains.

I have too many memories about this time and continue to love trains and I will,

  • thanks

  • Hit!

  • i was on this railroad a couple of times and i think i saw this shay engine on static display.

  • Railstar sucks. End of story. OH WAIT, ITS GONE!

  • Nice video, Skip. Brings back pleasant memories. If I remember correctly, I was the Fireman on No. 40 that day. Couldn't tell for sure from the video. Thanks.

  • Sure glad that you enjoyed it & you folks were always the best!

  • shays are very interesting. it seems that they are built for power and not speed.

  • perfect remedy for when you're bored xD

  • That Shay is a beauty

  • a great program you wont want to miss!!

  • this is one of the best videos i have seen on you tube !

    *****

At the beginning I found the video slow, but after I was "stuck". Your video has been worked and I congratulate you. Both the infrastructure of the line as the landscape, are spectacular.

    Greetings from Catalonia, in Europe.

  • Enjoy this footage of the Shay at Georgetown!

I visited The Loop back in July 2008 They only pull with a very small Diesel now. The Shay's and the Conventional Narrow Gauge Steam engines are now Sitting in The Colorado Steam Engine Museum in Golden Colorado.

  • Really?? Not even Number 12, the Hawi'ian 2-6-2 is running?

  • Saddly only the small Diesel is running now. I bet they will loose alot of their tourists revenue once people realize theirs no more steam at the George town Loop

  • The problem is that they are having money issues, and the Steam engines are difficult and expensive to maintain. Hopefully when they start making a better profit again, they can bring back the shays

  • What an incredible piece of kit the Shay is, they have always fascinated me. My brother was lucky enough to ride the footplate on one in the Phillipines in 1981. I wonder if any are still earning their keep in the sugar business there? Anyone know details?

  • Great video. I havent riden this train in over 25 years back when the kids were little. The loop wasn't reconstructed at that time and I think we rode #40. I have to look at my old pictures . . . Now I want to go back and ride #12, very cool indeed . . .

  • Good Luck! Unless you mean Railstar #12!

  • Thanks for posting your video. I enjoyed it very much, it shows the better days of the loop.

Hopefully better days happen come back to the loop. The engines they have now like #12 and C&S 9 are nice they just need to get them working properly.

  • by the grace of god that didn't go out of buisness

  • Very enjoyable Video, I can never believe that these Shays actually work! We never had them in UK.

  • One did get to the UK - Check out "The Bilston Shay" on Google.

  • The only thing missing was shots of the passengers downing "bumpers of scuppernog" in the Crazy Horse, Red Ram Saloon & The Silver Queen. I lived there when the Loop rebuild was just getting started. Brings back memories & I will someday take my Filipina wife there to see that & I will ride for my first time.

  • Rumor mill has it as the Loop might be steam-less in 2008 #9 @ #12 are torn apart in rebuild and wont be ready for opening day and no shay since 2005

  • Hah, hate to say it, but wht a great sound that shay made when it lost its footing. Nothing like hearing any steamer with the valve gear in full forward position. Wonder what the back pressure was like!

  • Just look at those gears! Pure bliss!

  • very enjoyable
