i never bothered with the special stages. i tried on occasion but never got past level 4. i could with tails but everytime i get someone that doesnt mind being the sidekick they always follow my character instead of going in the seperate directions like you should do in a special stage.

Tails was such a damn liability in these stages, especially on levels four and up. He'd always lag behind wherever you go and you're prone to losing rings too often.

Gah! Apparently Special Stage 7 on the DS version (Sonic Collection) has the second checkpoint at 190 rings instead of 150, and 210 on the final one. I had to look up this video just to help me memorize the ring patterns for the second leg of the stage. Super appreciation for uploading this video. +1 Internet!

It's actually possible to get all 7 emeralds by the end of the first chemical factory level if you can be bothered to find all the checkpoints on the first three levels with at least 50 rings for every one.

You can actually get all the 7 emeralds in Emerald Hill Zone and challenge the first boss already as Super Sonic.

get to be super sonic. He runs faster, jumps higher, is generally impervious to enemy attacks but i think he could still drown, be crushed and fall down bottomless pits.

Well, in my opinion, the whole "Being in front of eachother" thing was a BAD idea. I bet it would have been better if you were on the same level, able to bump eachother back and forth and such. You could even jump over eachother, heh. :D

i can get all the emeralds before finishing the first level. next time make sure you look all around the first level, there 3 star posts on the first level and 5 on the second one. hope this comments helpful
