in india this bird is known as FINGE(G as in go), mainly feeds on insects. yes it is a nice sight to see the bird flash out from it's stationary position catch a fly and come back.
even in city outskirt one can see them on high tension wires!
@koojhikjhik Yes, as you said it is a butcher bird -eats insects-. I used to feed it by throwing small balls of mince meat into the air. It then flies and catches them in mid-flight. They are very fast birds and have extraordinary eye sight.
I had no idea they also could be found in India! Thanks for the information and for your comment.
Blue bird, blue bird perched high on the twig, for what reasons do you cried out so loud ? is it hunger pain or is it because you've searched in vain, but unsucessful in finding your soulmate, the One that never made it past the winter season.Spring have arrived, life goese on lil one.The humand kind often mistake your sorrowful cries for happy bird songs, ignorant to the fact that all creatures have their seasons of joys and sorrows...
Wonderful! So many different sounds and pitches! There is an outward sound and an inward sound(like a falsetto). The bird didn't even seem to know that you were watching him or her through a telephoto lens. Such a wonderful performance!
@HandwhistlerBen Yes, this lovely birds has many sounds, but sadly I couldn't get all of them. And he knew I was there. I was sitting on a chair about 5 metres from where he was. I used to feed him small balls of mince meat that I thew up in the air and he came flying and grabbed them middle air with his beak. I made a short video showing this: youtube dot com /watch?v=0t4YLTaiSwg.
@jablai46 Thanks for your suggestion but I don't have a facebook account, and I am not interested in having one as you don't have any rights over your material there.
What a gorgeous bird and pretty song! There are so many, many wonderful birds you have in Oz I wish we had here. This one and magpies, too. You are so very lucky to live in Australia!! Thank you for positing this!
im not advertising myself! but i just downloaded a video of me feeding a drongo. i was feeding some other birds once and he came down for a look and now we feed him alllll the time. they r such pigs but really intelligent he comes into our yard and since they r insect eaters they can bomb even the tiniest but of mince i throw in the air.
Beautiful bird! :)

@Nannaroo17 In Australia a "Butcher bird" is a different bird. This is a "Spangled Drongo". Faster and more agile than a Butcher Bird.
