  • I am a HUUGEE FF Fan but... Honestly, I like nirvana's version or the acoustic version better :) I'm not trying to offend anyone and this is just my opinion...

  • <3

  • Gave me chills

  • I love nirvana Ff and the grunge :D

  • actually this song has nothing to do with kurt.

it was recorded solely by grohl then by nirvana (grohl - guitar vocals drums, krist - bass)

kurt didnt attend the recording session.

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr actually kurt played drums in the song

  • @rockandgrunge

    source?

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr This is a call: Dave Grohl's Biography, mentions it.

  • @MrMorganMakesMusic

    it's unauthorized

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr I know. Doesn't make it not true.

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr idk i read it off somewhere i found out ages ago but it wasnt of a website like wikipedia i can assure you that think it was a book i cant remember

  • We fucking miss you Kurt.

Hope you're having fun with Jesus or whomever.

  • @zombiek23 Buddha was written in his suicide not so i think thats who hes with

  • @LONEGIRAFFESThe It was spelt BoddAh :p

  • the song is for you Kurt we miss u

  • Did Dave wrote the song alone or together with Chris and Kurt? This version is much better than the version on the With The Light Out....

  • @Sneatio alone. this is actually the first acousting song he wrote

  • @Sneatio He wrote this on his 1991 side project called "Late!". The album was called "Pocketwatch". Kurt liked the song and they re-recorded it.

  • I hate how people talk about Dave Grohl trying to overthrow Kurt, it's as if they think they knew Kurt better than him. Dave was obviously one of Kurt's closest friends not just the drummer, they just need to stop ridiculing and judging him for what he's doing in Foo Fighters.

  • Grohl is such a brilliant writer.

  • :)

  • to me this is easily the best version

  • If this song was potato, it would be awesome potato!

  • guys, this wasnt wrote for kurt. it was written by dave and kurt. the only song about kurt that they made is i should have known, featuring krist, nirvanas bassist

  • @therunescapenewsteam dont forget about friend of a friend, written for kurt by dave

  • @therunescapenewsteam i always thought the only song was friend of a friend...

  • Kurt singing this is better no offense

  • @SHAMWOW719 ...He never sang it in the first place.

  • Comment removed

  • @Lenjaful I said Kurt never sang it in the first place...

  • Dave wrote this song not kurt.. just saying

  • I'm sure Dave had a tremble when he was singing this and probably he was almost going to cry

  • Kurt was over 2 hours late for the rehearsal so Dave did all the instruments + vocal on "nirvana" version of this song. So it's actually Dave all along anyway.

  • best solo i ever heard in my life, whos the solo player?

(i speak english sheatily becouse im argentin)

  • @geronimosilveira Chris Shifflett, the Foo Fighters' guitarist

  • i feel so much of nirvana in this!

  • Dave has said, recently, that he loves and respects Kurt.

After the 20th anniversary of Nevermind, he totally holds that sentiment. Which is why I personally hold much respect to Dave Grohl. If Kurt was alive to speak his own sentiments to the wide public today, I am sure that he would spout nothing but praise to The Foo Fighters!!!

  • Thank you Kurt !

  • R-I-P KURT

DAVE IS JUST DOING THIS SONG FOR KURT

    WE MISS YOU

  • @RzTSniping Your thinking of Friend of a Friend. This was just one of the songs he wrote while he was playing with kurt. The lyrics are about someone holding him back, even though he know's he's better. So this would be pretty disrespectful.. ): & I know Dave wouldn't do that. But this is song is beautiful <3

  • @RzTSniping Kurt didn't write this song F.Y.I i

  • @PS3HellFire117 glad people know that! it's actually Dave's song..

  • @RzTSniping Kurt didn't write this song F.Y.I

  • Kurt and Krist arent even in the original version of the song, he made it all, guitar, drums and bass, a friend of his was in backing vocals

  • @PivotMakeranimations I think Krist did bass... in the Nirvana version, at least; not in the Late! version though (but that didn't have bass or drums).

  • @aerocmetallica1995 nope, he made it all by himself

  • @PivotMakeranimations I can't post a like, but look up livenirvana[dot]com, go into the sessions history, then go into studio sessions. Find this session: February 12–26, 1993 - Pachyderm Recording Studio, Cannon Falls, MN, US. Yep, Novoselic played bass

  • I guess this version of the song is okaaaaayyyy......... i mean, it would be very likeable if it was the only version you'd ever heard. but the original had more of the raw undertones we all know and love.......

  • dave totally DRESSED this song up.. if you know what i mean.. the original was a lot more raw and it was best left that way

  • @starsweet4 I totally agree... it lacks the... despondency.

  • He wrote the song, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it.

  • I feel as though this version is too busy, it still rocks but it seems like it should of been left simple, you know ?

  • the studio version of this sounds like a teenage fanclub song to me....

  • I think Foo Fighters are a spooky reminder of how long Nirvana has lived onwards.

  • great cover. btw dave can do whatever he wants with this because he wrote it and sings it. so stop with the stupid hate comments

  • Fist time i herd this was off the box set >:)

  • gay voice compared to....

  • @Wazztheweasel Compared to who dude, he sang in the original version, lol.

  • wtf ?! this song is form nirvana , dave was the drumbs of nirvana, i know, but dont try play a song of your friend and member band, kurt cobain, when you f**k with his wife !

  • @ABPint actualy Color Pictures of Marigold was off Pocketwatch by Dave Grohl under the name Late! and added bass and drums then re-recorded it for Nirvana

  • @ABPint Dave wrote the song

  • @ABPint XDDDDDDDDDDDD THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN BY DAVE GROHL -.-

  • @ABPint you are really really fucking stupid

  • i think that nirvana, if we went back in time, would be proud of that!

  • @mrschminkman nirvana's not a person... you know that right?

  • @mrschminkman I think you mean kurt cobain, nirvana is not a person, your comment doesn't make sense, krist novoselic and pat smear are alive so they know about this song! jesus

  • @mrschminkman Drugs've destroyed kurt, and i think, if he llifes, he will say " never mind "

  • @mrschminkman This song was recorded in 1993 and was a b-side on the heart shaped box single.

  • i like this version better than the original nirvana version!

  • Nirvana (Kurt, Dave & Krist) = Best band ever, R.I.P. Kurt

  • @BlvrsNvrDThGrtstHts and pat dude, he was a part of the band

  • I like both versions - Dave Grohl's a legend.

  • aww.. I'm fan of both, and i know dave wrote this song but honestly i liked it more when it was played by nirvana.

    BUT THEY BOTH ROCKKK

  • How does music become a point of contention? Music should elevate in any way the listener wants. Pitting one musician against another makes no sense - and that includes Grammys, etc. Foo Fighters exist because of a series of events mostly out of anyone's hands. If you love a band, fine. But hating on another is pointless.

  • Jeez, people, why don't we all just shut up and listen to the MUSIC. "What? What's this guy talking about? Music? Oh, geez; next he'll expect us to GET ALONG . . . ah man, I don't know if I can handle that . . ." Seriously, people, come on.

  • I thought his voice was better before it matured but he is talented nonetheless

  • I love this version but why are you doing a tribute to a band if its nirvana's song....despite the fact Dave grohl was in nirvana...still....NIRVANA KICKS ASS...that is all

  • @SociallyDivided because dave wrote it

  • Hey Arcanepariah and 7kole4. NOBODY cares which of you is right and wrong - we came here to listen to music. Get lost and take your differences to email. I'm here to listen to a great song not read internet bickering!

  • @guvsmak

I was just having fun :)

But whatever, you're right. I'll be the bigger person and stop.

  • he made a cover of his own song

  • I bet Kurt's in heaven right now, looking down on Dave, and holding two thumbs WAY up!

  • @billyboy434 ...........no

  • @7kole4 Why not?

  • @billyboy434 well if you think selling out is what Kurt was into then i guess he would be. But, Kurt was into staying loyal and keeping his dignity, other than kicking your dignity to the side and chosing fame and money which Dave Grohl has done....... and by no means am i saying that Dave is not loyal to playing music.

  • @7kole4 Man, I'm not talking about Dave selling out and stuff. I'm talking about him playing the song in honor of Kurt and Krist. In the end, it all comes down to the music.

  • @turkeychickenmonkey You're right. My bad. :)

  • Thumbs up if you're too busy enjoying the music to engage in retarded flame wars in the comments section

  • @DarkVertig0 i wish...

  • @DarkVertig0 you're a faggot

  • ...... Why is it that whenever i click on a Foo Fighter video theres a bunch of Foo Fighter fans that act like they have something to prove? hahahah.

  • Nirvanas version is better.

why did Dave have to become such a fucking sell out.

  • @7kole4 Its his song jerk

  • @RexKoch ..... hahahaha did i ever say it wasnt? all i said is NIRVANAS version is better.

WHY DO FOO FIGHTER FANS FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO PROVE, ALL THE TIME? hahah you Foo Fighter fans are posers, you Foo Fighter fans are not punk one bit.

  • @7kole4 whats dave grohl supposed to do? Just sit and mourn kurt cobains death his whole life?

no he is very tallented so he made a band that is great ,and if you hate the foo fighters then don't watch the video

  • It's Dave's song. He can do what he wants with it so everyone just go crawl up a butt hole and shut up!

  • @dufflebagchick Ya and every Nirvana song was Kurt's. Dave is a good all around musician, but he is a average guitar player and singer...

You "Foo Fighters" can have this song LOL, the only reason why people like this song is because it was a unknown track done by Nirvana when Dave was still with Nirvana, then he eventually released it on "pocketwatch". shut upppp:)

  • @7kole4 don't act like you know me based on one of my comments. FYI i'm a Nirvana fan too not just a Foo Fighter fan. I know Nirvana song's were Kurt's because he wrote them but let's not forget the other members. I said it's Dave's song bc he composed it therefore he has a right to change it up a bit or alot if he wants. Have u ever heard the foo fighters do an old nirvana song? NO! bc he respects that it's not his songs entirely.

  • @dufflebagchick uhmmm? did i ever say i acted like i knew you? NO. Thats cool your a Nirvana fan, dont think everyone who liked Nirvana has to like Foo Fighters... people have their own opinions you know that right? Did i ever say it was NOT Daves song?.... infact im pretty sure i told you i KNOW its Daves song, LMFAO. He knows if he were to play a Nirvana song it would either be good or bad. some Nirvana fans might like it, but the loyal Nirvana fans would turn their back on Dave maybe.

  • ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm nooooooo. nirvana deffinetly made this song and foo fighter are just a wanna be knock off to them. i dont care if he switched bands, but dont kill the greatness man

  • better

  • Actually Dave made a lot of songs while nirvana was together.

  • Love this song! Haven't heard it in a while =)

  • its a cover of his own song :D

  • @donwantstobesedated You're 100% correct, Dave even said in an interview that he had no problem letting Kurt play the drums on it. Especially since the drums were Kurt's first instrument.

  • @ElwoodTheBard On LiveNirvana, one of Nirvana's official sites, it says that Kurt did NOT play drums on ANY of the takes of Marigold, including the one released with Heart-Shaped Box. That is all.

  • please,

    stop babbling bullshit.

    Just Enjoy The Music.

Kurt, Dave, Frist, Pat, they were a BAND. if you can't understand that, you're just stupid.

  • @mayak190518 Krist* and Pat wasn't really in Nirvana. Just in their live albums and as a backup for unfinished recordings.

  • @MasterPeanut94 Krist was in Nirvana , he founded the band with kurt .

  • @kevindoyle1994 I never said he wasn't. I was correcting the spelling mistake (Frist) and I said PAT wasn't in Nirvana aside from live perfomances and some unfinished recordings of Kurt that needed some guitar after he had died.

  • @MasterPeanut94 I would say to shut the fuck up, but since your reply shall make me listen again to this lovely song, i'll thank you then.

  • I always cry, pretty much from the moment it starts, when I hear this song. I can't explain why I do but I think its because of the beauty of this song, the history of the song and my own emotions getting tied in there.

Its such a beautiful, perfect song. :')

  • awseme song

  • Dude you can't say fuck Nirvana, even if you don't like them, Foo Fighters wouldn't be around if it weren't for Nirvana, Dave has said this time and time again.

  • @joeblufc i can say whatever i want

  • @tman51593 go to hell and be sure to check out my chan faggot

  • Foo Fighters might never will be as influental and a good band as Nirvana, but they still fucking rock!

  • Dave Grohl... what a legend.

  • i liked nirvana's version better cos it was more creepy :D

  • This version is better

  • hahahah @ 1:35 he looks exactly like adam sandler.

  • happy bday dave grohl!!!!!!!!

  • I kinda prefer a version when Dave was in Nirvana.

    But this is okay.

  • @MirLjudima

Kurt just did the backup vocals in that version. Dave wrote the song and the music also i believe.

  • @shane31lv I know that dude, just saying that earlier version is better.

    in my opinion.

  • @shane31lv I know that.

But I like the old version better. With Kurt or without him.The old version.

  • @shane31lv No kurt did not.

  • @shane31lv Actually, Marigold is the only Nirvana song that doesn't feature Kurt in anyway at all. The version on Heart Shaped Box was recorded on a day that Kurt wasn't there.

  • @turkeychickenmonkey Kurt Can play drums you know?

  • @pingoothepenguin Doesn't change that Kurt wasn't there they did Marigold. Look it up, no involvement from Kurt at all.

  • @turkeychickenmonkey It's pretty well established that Kurt played drums on that track

  • @shane31lv i heard he played the drums 2 ^_^

  • He looks like nirvana's singer at 3:10 XD

  • @Kyrzak12 That's only because of his hair ><

  • nirvanas better in my opinion but this songs still good

  • KURT !

  • People like all the trolls flaming over who wrote the song are probably one of the reasons why Kurt ended it all. Im pretty sure everyone who went off on each other didnt even pay attention to the music. Why do you fight anyways? So you can feel good about yourself for a moment then get back onto your shitty life? ENJOY the music because thats what whoever wrote it intended in the first place. PEACE .

  • @ThatFilthyChoch that was kinda....gay

  • the first songs music was better,my oppinion!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know what this songs about, but I know that he wrote it when he lived in a small flat with kurt cobain, and he was so bored that he just picked up his guitar and started playing this tune and wrote some lyrics, and kurt loved it. so every time he plays it, he always thinks of kurt.

  • What is this song actually about?

  • foos version is better in my opinion :)

  • i like the nirvana version better...puts me in a better mood.

  • I like this version, but I prefer the Nirvana version, don't ask why xd

  • @VampireLikeYouAndMe Hahaha jij weer ;D Ik vind deze versie wel heel erg mooi hoor, maar Nirvana's versie is WAY better. :3

  • i love NIRVANA..........Way better

  • its ok. nirvanas is def better! and we will never stop listing to nirvana.

  • dave should've done this song by himself.. no drums, bullshit guitar solos or violins. it would've been so much more raw.

Don't get me wrong, i am not hating on dave in anyway

That man is my hero! just saying that's all ..

  • i was playin the guiatr the other day and i managed to figure out how to play this song, i was so chuffed with myself! lol. btw does anyone else think the intro to this is similar to in bloom by nirvana? cos i definetely hear the similarities when im playing guitar

  • awww...

i only knew this song from when it was by nirvana

and its nice to see his voice hasn't changed, even if his singing style has.

i can't listen to the chorus with being sad because i can't hear kurt's voice harmonizing with dave's like the original...</3

    awesome song...

  • @DeanGreenDay It was Dave who wrote the song....

  • @DeanGreenDay dave wrote this fool, its a brilliant song

  • @ricochetfuzzy i dunno if id say its brilliant lmfao but its a good song.

  • @DeanGreenDay Dave wrote the song. It was originally on his album Pocketwatch that he released while Nirvana was together. He also sang it on the Nirvana version. So yeah, fuck off.

  • @voracious32

do you know if theres any versions of Pocketwatch floating around? Internet, etc...

  • @7kole4 I got it off the Pirate Bay. I figured there's no harm in pirating something that was only ever released on cassette.

  • @voracious32

    hahah word

  • @voracious32 you're a pretentious wanker

  • @voracious32 truth is, its a good song. but nirvanas' version is better. more truth is dave grohl has become just as shit as any millennium band. better to burn out dave

  • @pepitojoe your talking complete and utter SHIT my friend.

I can guarantee to that if the foo fighters weren't a mainsteam band (but released the exact same music) you'd be on here saying 'hey men, Foo's are soo good, fuck all these new artists that everyone listens to, they are so mainsteam, therefore not cool...Dave Grohl, keeping it real men, glad to see it" Go back into the little "I'm not mainstream, I'm cool" cave you came from.

  • @dkr56 sorry i dont like the Foo Fighters whether they are mainstream or not mainstream. i dont like there sound one bit, i dont like Dave Grohls voice either. i bought their new album for the expectations of it being their heaviest album yet........ it wasnt heavy at all, the only good song on the album in my opinion was "I should have known" with Krist novoselic on bass. Wasting Light was a waste of money.

can you tell me why all Foo Fighter fans act like they have something to prove?

  • @7kole4 the fact you just said the only song you like is the one with krist on it, which sort of sums up the point I was making. Go play a song rock song from the 60's then compare it to the 80's and you'll find a huge difference, music changes.

AndI wouldn't say anyone has anything to prove...

Also, why is Dave a sellout may I ask?

  • @dkr56 there was a change in music from 60's to 70's but it was a good change now it has hanged for the worst. and it will never go back, sounds silly but music is doomed, you think its bad now, wait till the foo fighters make an album in 5 years. guarantee it will be even more painful to listen to than the shit their pumping out now. why is he a sell out?

he used to be free and talented, now he gets tattoos, makes pop music, and says cheesy lines. he has chosen money and fame over dignity

  • @pepitojoe the 60's were far better than the 70's if you know anything about music...... hahahah. But if you were a little more aware with music, you would know there is still good music, its just underground the way it has always been.. Music is doomed if you're relying on grunge music to make a come back, hahah.... Grunge is still underground the way it was always meant to be. thanks for explaining why Dave is a sell out, i dunno why you even asked. he chose money and fame over loyalty/dignity

  • @pepitojoe i dont like Foo Fighters. It has nothing to do with them being mainstream or anything to do with Dave Grohl, im not a fan of their music, its my own opinion and it has nothing to do with your points at all. Quit relying on a rock band to come save the pop charts, if you still like rock music than go and look for underground bands, because there is plenty of them that are fucking good. good bye.

  • @7kole4 agree with some of what ur saying, i can tell you have some knowledge of music. but i would have to say 80's\early 90's is my favourite period due to happy mondays, joy division, nirvana etc.
