  • Thanks so much for posting this! I saw this when i was younger and named our fish talbot and melissa because of this lol! Thanks again!

  • Lyle & Talbot... awesome!

  • Did Bert & Ernie ever have goldfish before or after this sketch appeared on Sesame Street.

  • Comment removed

  • I never recalled Ernie & Bert having goldfish before, and that's very cool to see. I see they have such nice goldfish with cool, alternative names.

  • It's rare that Bert and Ernie are interested in the same thing.

  • i love the giant tail of crap hanging from meliss

  • this skit is cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutte and adorable.

  • 'Who's that'. 'That's.... uh, his wife. Melissa'. lol. Good stuff.

  • The fish is on a diet, hah, this show is too funny.

  • Not too much... Talbot's on a diet.

  • i remember this vividly... i had completely forgot about this until i saw the thumbnail, then it all came flooding back...

    "they go mooom mooom mooom"

XD that whole exchange is mt favorite part...

  • watch hobos on ice - (part 1)

    seseme street is awsome

  • "Heeeeey Bert!"

LOVE how Ernie says that in every sketch :-)

  • I like how Bert laughs. "eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh"

  • his wife "Melissa"!! haha hilarious! I love this

  • The first fish they showed with a close up looks to have ich.

  • Melissa has ich?

  • This is one of my favorite Sesame Street sketches. I love the adlibbing: "I've never seen Talbot go moom moom moom." ROFL. I also loved that Talbot's wife is named Melissa, because that's my real name.

  • Bert:That,s not Talbot.

    Ernie:Well who is that Bert

Bert:That? Let me just check. I don,t know who that is! Wait a minute! LOL

  • ROTFL moom moom moom :)

  • eh eh eh ehh

  • If you listen to Bert's laugh for too long it starts to sound like a duck quacking.

  • I didn't know fish said moom moom moom.

  • "I don't know who that is!" LOL

  • I never seen talbert go moom moom moom

haha I remember this when I was a kid

  • I wonder if any of those fish are still around.

  • hahah berts laugh in the begginning

  • Where's Mr. Rogers when you need to feed the fish, eh? My friend always loved that about Mr. Rogers...Him feeding the fish...I remember watching this! Thank you!

  • WOW! I haven't seen this in 25 years. Here's something funny. In the late 70's I had 2 gold fish named ERNIE AND BERT.

  • funny, i think i get more enjoyment out of watching bert and ernie now as an adult, than i did as a child

  • Bert's names for the fish are a sort of inside joke; Lyle Talbot was a veteran movie and TV actor from the 1930s-'60s.

  • they must really like to breathe!!! haha

  • yeah i cracked up at that.

  • "just like animals, they have to eat." Hey bert, fish ARE animals!

  • "That's his wife." Hilarious! To be able to improvise a whole scene like that, it takes geniuses like Frank Oz and Jim Henson. And if you look into script-writing, you can see that this is clearly a non-scripted sequence as has been said.

  • This is one of those Sesame Street skits that got so ingrained in my head when I was a child, that ever since I first saw it, every time I see fish in a tank I always think "mum, mum, mum."

  • Looks like the fish are saying, "Bluh. Bluh. Bluh." and going on until Thanksgiving.

  • Bert and Ernie are my favorite Sesame Street characters. Although, Big Bird's always been my favorite character.

  • "not too much: talbot's on a diet..."

  • "they certainly like to breathe bert"

  • Wasn't this, like, the first time Bert won Ernie over on something?

  • Wow Look at all that fish

  • I DON'T KNOW WHO THAT IS! Beautiful.

  • OMG..too funny. Talbot,Lyle, Melissa..hilarious!

    The best.

  • FUNNY LOL

  • Pretty Fishyz! who cares bout the characters FISH ROCK! lol jk

  • "they must really like to breath"...lol "Thats uh..his wife" very funny ad libs. I so remember this and wanted goldfish then.

  • damn great

    this is extraordinary

  • Lol so hysterical.

  • lol. I remember watching this episode! It made me want a goldfish.

  • those fish was real fish just a fact for you there yeah real fish people

  • lyle talbot--a little humor for the older folks. loved it.

  • That is my second favorite segment of Bert and Ernie. My first one is when Ernie turns on the radio and doing an exercise routine.

  • LOL "Moom, moom, moom" That still cracks me up till this day.

  • I luv goldfish

  • This is great, my first fish were named Talbot and Melissa, Wow that brings back memories

  • lol! Melissa is 3 times bigger than her husband Calvin! :D

  • It's not Calvin, it's Talbot.

  • It's Talbot (a name I have forever remembered from this skit), and yeah, don't you imagine Talbot and Melissa being one of those redneck couples where the wife is a fat ass and the husband is a skinny prick?

  • Hmmm, I wonder if E & B rent those fish out to Lew Zealand.

  • It,s New Zealand.

  • No he's referring to the fish-loving guy from The Muppet Show.

  • Does anybody know which Sesame Street DVD has Bert's "6" song?

  • Old School Volume 2.

  • good.

  • does anyone know if the segment of burt and ernie where burt is playin g checkers with a pigon named bernice is uploaded?

  • THose fish are beautiful!

  • catch < fish

  • you own classic sesmae street! All your videos are exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much

  • muhm muhm muhm muhm....I still do that every time I see goldfish.

  • Me Too!

  • So cute... I probably wanted fishies of my own because of this sketch :)

  • I LOVE it when couples get along. lol

  • I'm glad to see that golfish were in their proper place, and NOT a bowl! HEHE. This skit is genius. I remember is like it was yesterday! AND I couldn't understand how he didn't know which fish that one was. lol.

  • I agree! Not like how Elmo has "Dorothy" in a damned bowl, no wonder the fish is switched every episode XD

  • I SO remember this! I had fish as well, and I still remember Bert going "I don't know who that is!" They were such great performers, being able to take something unscripted like watching goldfish, and in character make an interesting and wonderful experience.

  • I've never seen talbot go moom moom moom!

  • If I have to hear Bert do that laugh excessivly once more I'm gonna go slaughter felt.

  • this made me laugh !

  • as a kid i was slightly disturbed by, "i don't know who that is!"

  • it s like peter cook and dudley more!!

    brilliant!!

british kids loved seaseme street TOO!

    just timeless great kids tv

  • Mung, mung , mung, mung! The language of goldfish! I would love to get a collection of just Ernie and bert sketches!

  • Wow, I never realized until now that Bert sounds just like a goat when he laughs!

  • Heeeere, fishy fishy fishy

  • "I've never seen Talbot go "moum, moum, moum"." That's something I have remembered since the 80's :o)

God this is one skit I remember like it was on yesterday.

  • haha :D

  • "that's not talbot". lol! :)

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!! I was named after Melissa, the goldfish (Talbot's wife) after my older sister say this clip. I've been trying to find it for awhile, too :D

  • Gold fishes are so cute and colorful skin. I thought these guys were going to play baseball.

  • "I love these fish!" I LOVE this clip! I totally remember loving it as a child too... I remember the "moom mooom mooom" thing Ernie did, I think I thought this clip was hilarious even back then. Just classic, too.

  • Haha! I had no idea that they did upscripted scenes. That is pure genius, I love it! :D

  • As a kid, you never notice this as being unscripted, but now at 23 (and a recent Theatre grad who spent 4 years studying performed dialogue), you can only imagine Frank Oz and Jim Henson trying not to laugh their asses off doing this by the seats of their pants. AWESOME!

  • the neatest trick of the week: "not laughing your ass off doing this by the seat of your pants."

  • I remember seeing this as a kid- a classic video- and I used to have fish so I remember spending time looking at how wonderful God made them.

  • *That's not Talbot." Ha!

The whole "Muh Muh Muh" bit is priceless! "How do they go?"

  • Lyle... Talbot? LOL!

  • One of my favorites!
