This is one of my favorite Sesame Street sketches. I love the adlibbing: "I've never seen Talbot go moom moom moom." ROFL. I also loved that Talbot's wife is named Melissa, because that's my real name.
Where's Mr. Rogers when you need to feed the fish, eh? My friend always loved that about Mr. Rogers...Him feeding the fish...I remember watching this! Thank you!
"That's his wife." Hilarious! To be able to improvise a whole scene like that, it takes geniuses like Frank Oz and Jim Henson. And if you look into script-writing, you can see that this is clearly a non-scripted sequence as has been said.
This is one of those Sesame Street skits that got so ingrained in my head when I was a child, that ever since I first saw it, every time I see fish in a tank I always think "mum, mum, mum."
It's Talbot (a name I have forever remembered from this skit), and yeah, don't you imagine Talbot and Melissa being one of those redneck couples where the wife is a fat ass and the husband is a skinny prick?
I'm glad to see that golfish were in their proper place, and NOT a bowl! HEHE. This skit is genius. I remember is like it was yesterday! AND I couldn't understand how he didn't know which fish that one was. lol.
I SO remember this! I had fish as well, and I still remember Bert going "I don't know who that is!" They were such great performers, being able to take something unscripted like watching goldfish, and in character make an interesting and wonderful experience.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!! I was named after Melissa, the goldfish (Talbot's wife) after my older sister say this clip. I've been trying to find it for awhile, too :D
"I love these fish!" I LOVE this clip! I totally remember loving it as a child too... I remember the "moom mooom mooom" thing Ernie did, I think I thought this clip was hilarious even back then. Just classic, too.
As a kid, you never notice this as being unscripted, but now at 23 (and a recent Theatre grad who spent 4 years studying performed dialogue), you can only imagine Frank Oz and Jim Henson trying not to laugh their asses off doing this by the seats of their pants. AWESOME!
I remember this!! XD

I never recalled Ernie & Bert having goldfish before, and that's very cool to see. I see they have such nice goldfish with cool, alternative names.

It's rare that Bert and Ernie are interested in the same thing.

Bert's names for the fish are a sort of inside joke; Lyle Talbot was a veteran movie and TV actor from the 1930s-'60s.
