First it was public funding for Haiti, then a song for Haiti, then a tennis match for Haiti, WHAT NEXT... bungee jumping for Haiti? What is the underlying motivation by white people to fly into fundraising mode every time Africans meet with disaster? Is it to prove that Africans are "children" and are therefore vulnerable without the help of "adult" Europeans? Or are white people helping out for public praise? Whatever it is, I wish they would just leave us alone and go help poor white folk.
atleast this song is so much better than we are the world.... so many raps in it ... doesnt show that they are sincere it jus shows that they wanna show off their voice.. to put it in an ugly way
Well I'm black and I donate regularly. Is my money good enough for charity to African countries and other impoverished nations? The fact that you have access to a computer to post nonsense rules you out as a spokesperson for people who are suffering and need aid. I don't think those people care where help come from, as long as it helps.
@KickWhitesOutAfrica we are helping haiti cause they are humans just like us. they need help if we were in trouble we would want their help. to go from what people had to nothing its the most devastating thing in the world. to know your brother or sister mom or dad are no longer alive and you may not survive youwould want someone there to help you. Thank you for being oh so racist
I'm pretty sure they were asked to do this. And I'm also sure that if they turned it down they would still be slammed for not caring. What would you do if someone asked you to sing a part in a song that would be sold as a single for charity? Think about that.
I'm nobody's old man but gotta admit that the older guys (Bon Jovi, Stewart, Boyle, Carey) have the more distinctive voices. Most of the rest sound alike.
Its a recording "technique" - albeit a bad one if you ask me. They are using a wierd type of compression causing the breath sounds to be over badly emphasized.

Now the dishonest mormons who run this place are trying to starve me out - they're making sure I never get a goodpaying job.
This was a great song before and a good use of it to encourage hope to the people of Haiti and a way to help with the effort to assist the people of Haiti.
Tbh who cares if it is straight from his bank account or not he will get more money this way for haiti.......and isnt it about getting the money not who it came from :)
How have they destroyed it? If it was that much of a masterpiece to begin with [which I agree with], surely it couldn't have been destroyed that easily.

Well this isnt about how many words u sing, its about the will to do sth good and help those in need. And it was so kind of all of them to join and help.
I'm a long term fan of Mariah, I can't see why she agreed to participate in this amongst Simon's mind-numbing 'talent' show produce; being most of the people involved in this recording. Anyone wanna guess how much Simon has personally donated to that charity? I reckon next to nothing.
Um I dont know maybe Mariah wanted to help haiti, And you dont know if simon has or hasnt donated his money. Shut up. Stop bitching, and you do something to help haiti.

450,000 copies sold = approx £376,000 a drop in the ocean to what people have already donated and probably less than Ms Carey spends on cosmetic procedures and grooming a year!
Another piece of pointless self marketing and a crap cover to boot!
You make such a comment yet you have donated how much to the cause....? £376,000 would help alot. Its not going to solve all the problems but it will help, so why call the efforts to raise money for people in need when im sure you have not given much, if any, effort to help.
I have donated £25 which is 9% of my gross weekly earnings! Incidentally it is non of your business how much I have given and don't make assumptions when you don't know anything!
wel that is good u have, but still, why mock the efforts made which raised, going from what you say, which was £376,000. That is a good amount, so why mock it?
I love Chris Moyles' comment at the end ...."it doesnt matter whetehr you like it or not".
Seeing as people can donate money in a variety of ways, it kind of does matter whether they like the song to pay for it.
And I like the earlier comment about the meaning behind the song - Kurt Cobain's self harming and depression - nothing whatsoever to do with a natural disaster. But they've taken two lines "everybody hurts......hold on" and turned it into a charity single. Brilliant! *tongue in cheek*
Listen to We Are The World 25 for HAITI to understand what making good music means. Though it can't beat the originals it is however still very NICE & worth buying.
This song is the most ugly group song I have heard my entire lifetime. Alomst all the male voices ruined this song Simon u got it wrong this time rushed production, voices don't blend & rubbish production. I don't need to buy this song to donate to HAITI. Better do something well next time be it for charity or DON'T do it at all.
whether or not they are just doing it for advertisement for themselves it doesnt matter because they have done more than you! even if it is just for advertisement at least they have raised a lot of money for charity
OHH FUCK NO, Susan Boyle did not just disgrace R.E.M, fuck you man, deep down, those celebs don't give a fuck bout Haiti, they just want advertisement, fuck it, Noones better than Michael Stipes, there must be someone who agrees?
@mythikaljake-- Michael did NOT write this song in memory if his close friend Kurt Cobain- his sad death was in 94, song written in part by Bill Berry in 92!!!
"Let me in " was written about KC(RIP)!
I think this song is appropriate as it sends out the message to hold on, that there IS hope!!
Anyway, as long as it makes money for the cause that's all we want:)
Even if this version of the song sounded like a "PIANO CRASHING DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS " It will still sell shitloads, these type of charity songs always do. Having said that liked the vocals of James Morrison, Rod Stewart, Kylie Minogue, and Susan Boyle a standout in the middle with a voice like a "Bell Chime "
you shouldnt be worrying about whos singing, you should be worrying about the thousands, even millions, of people homeless in haiti than say whether you think cheryl cole should be in this
The cause it goes for is utterly inappropriate. Everybody Hurts was written about Kurt Cobain (whom Michael Stipe was very close to), and is about depression and self-harm. Attributing it to a National Disaster with millions homeless is completely inappropriate, especially considering the whole thing is a quite blatant cash-in for Simon Cowell's ego and benefit.
But I can't say anything bad about it obviously. Who am I to deny the Haitians 2% of Mr Cowell's royalties?!? D:
As a huge R.E.M. fan I must say that they did a pretty good job with it but honestly I would prefer not to listen to some of the singers here. I won't say any names in order to be respectful with the cause and the fans.
The Obama administration stunned New York's delegation yesterday, dropping the bombshell news that it does not support funding the 9/11 health bill
The state's two senators and 14 House members met with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius just hours before President Obama implored in his speech to the nation for Congress to come together and deliver a government that delivers on its promises to the American people.
When the vast majority of the profits go into the pockets of the celebrities involved and Simon Cowell, yes, it is wasting money.
Also, Haiti, earthquake or no, is a country with a long history of widespread poverty. Why, when there were millions homeless and starving in the country already, does it take a celebrity charity bandwagon to cause the rich population of the UK to give a toss?
I don't know what you've read in the tabloids about him, but I refuse to believe for one second that he's generous. Of course he'll make money out of this. It's how corporate charity works. We'll benefit the disadvantaged, as long as we get the most of it. And not to mention the boost in his ego, which seems to have worked quite well....
Because the people on our streets have help if they really want it!!!! thats why!! all they need to do is go to a police office, say "im homeless" and that night theyll have a warm bed. simple. ya idiot
the stars don't get any money for this as its for charity. and it doesnt matter if anyone dubbed the song, its for a good cause. even if you dont like the song, you should buy it to show your support!
yea but end of the day im sure theres other people in chat that would agree dont get me wrong i do feel for them but its about time we started lookin after our own i pay taxs i cant get treatment on the NHS but people from 3rd world countrys seem to be doin ok sorry to any 1 that finds this affensive but im just statin facts that i aint supportin the campain theres more money goin out there AND WE HAVE TROOPS DIEIN FOR THIS COUNTRY CAUSE THEY NOT GOT PROPER EQUIPMENT LEAVE U TO MAKE THE CHOICE
I love the commenwealth l live in its not about stars this is about helping the people of Haiti no one else so god stop the negative comments and get behind this people.. I'm Aussie and proud of who represents us go th UK

No. Cowell gathers these stars in to record this song.
And tells us normal people to buy it.
He probably doesn't give a single penny directly from his bank account.
So he's still a great big tyrant.
P.S. It's true that some people buy charity singles instead of donating directly, because DEC/Oxfam/Red Cross etc. won't disclose any figures?

This song is the most ugly group song I have heard my entire lifetime. Alomst all the male voices ruined this song Simon u got it wrong this time rushed production, voices don't blend & rubbish production. I don't need to buy this song to donate to HAITI. Better do something well next time be it for charity or DON'T do it at all.
missmaggi100 1 year ago
Not everyone trying to help wants advertisment. it takes a very cold person I think to slag off a charity single...
XxixletxgoxX 1 year ago
Ridiculous.
I know it's a charity single, but we've got enough covers already. We had two Band Aid covers, now this???
It's a waste of time for the stars and the aid effort. Who do you think would listen to this track after buying it? ZERO.
No point saying "the proceeds go to charity" because it's a helluva lot easier to donate money straight to the DEC.
P.S. Radio stations are also slamming this; XFM London and Magic 105.4 both played REM's version shortly before this one released.

puffys2523 1 year ago
@mythikaljake-- Michael did NOT write this song in memory if his close friend Kurt Cobain- his sad death was in 94, song written in part by Bill Berry in 92!!!
"Let me in " was written about KC(RIP)!
I think this song is appropriate as it sends out the message to hold on, that there IS hope!!
Anyway, as long as it makes money for the cause that's all we want:)

its verry good.
wacatac22 1 year ago
Even if this version of the song sounded like a "PIANO CRASHING DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS " It will still sell shitloads, these type of charity songs always do. Having said that liked the vocals of James Morrison, Rod Stewart, Kylie Minogue, and Susan Boyle a standout in the middle with a voice like a "Bell Chime "

is it just me or does everybody who sang on this could just put a bunch of cash together and save them instead of this dross
danger77ful 1 year ago
@danger77ful........what makes you think that they didn't put up a bunch of cash in addition to recording this?
This is to try to raise some money from people that wouldn't contritbute otherwise.
Give these people a little credit, I'm sure they did more than you.

I don't care who sings this.
It's for a good cause and I love it.
Toxen1 1 year ago 3
The cause it goes for is utterly inappropriate. Everybody Hurts was written about Kurt Cobain (whom Michael Stipe was very close to), and is about depression and self-harm. Attributing it to a National Disaster with millions homeless is completely inappropriate, especially considering the whole thing is a quite blatant cash-in for Simon Cowell's ego and benefit.
But I can't say anything bad about it obviously. Who am I to deny the Haitians 2% of Mr Cowell's royalties?!? D:

I couldn't agree more my friend
Philo11 1 year ago
@mythicaljake But I bet that 2% out shaddows anything we could donate.
Crozzers 1 year ago
As a huge R.E.M. fan I must say that they did a pretty good job with it but honestly I would prefer not to listen to some of the singers here. I won't say any names in order to be respectful with the cause and the fans.

The Obama administration stunned New York's delegation yesterday, dropping the bombshell news that it does not support funding the 9/11 health bill
The state's two senators and 14 House members met with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius just hours before President Obama implored in his speech to the nation for Congress to come together and deliver a government that delivers on its promises to the American people.

LukeHarrison100 dont be so ignorant theres been a major disaster and you dont care its not wasting money its a good cause !
cheezboy123 1 year ago
When the vast majority of the profits go into the pockets of the celebrities involved and Simon Cowell, yes, it is wasting money.
Also, Haiti, earthquake or no, is a country with a long history of widespread poverty. Why, when there were millions homeless and starving in the country already, does it take a celebrity charity bandwagon to cause the rich population of the UK to give a toss?
mythicaljake 1 year ago
mythicaljake, come on, I'm not that fond of Cowell either, but one thing that he is, is generous.
He's not going to make anything from this, it won't even be taxed for the UK.
Pure profit for Haiti.
GirlFromPhily 1 year ago 4
I don't know what you've read in the tabloids about him, but I refuse to believe for one second that he's generous. Of course he'll make money out of this. It's how corporate charity works. We'll benefit the disadvantaged, as long as we get the most of it. And not to mention the boost in his ego, which seems to have worked quite well....

LukeHarrison100 1 year ago 3
Because the people on our streets have help if they really want it!!!! thats why!! all they need to do is go to a police office, say "im homeless" and that night theyll have a warm bed. simple. ya idiot
