So what you are saying is that Jamestown Distributors thinks that cheap and sleazy is a good thing? I understand hiring a professional is expected, but not that kind. Go to an ad agency next time if you want to have a respectable image.
Nice vid. Maybe you can help me I won't to get a four blade propeller for my tracker super guide v-16 SC 30hp mercury four stroke!!! What do you think will give better lite proformence stainless steel or aluminum? Plz message back!! THANKS!!!!!
@wetbootsmoke Taking out and replacing a drain and vent screw is a simple task that even my 15 year old daughter is perfectly proficant at ,it is not rocket science...
after taking off the prop is it normal to have oil inside the lower part of the motor cause i had oil dripping out from behind the prop before removing the prop??????????????????
@liv4daoutdoors No, this is not normal and very likely indicates the seal on the propshaft has failed. I suggest bringing it to a marine outboard mechanic. I also suggest NOT storing the lower unit without oil. Thanks for the question.
@liv4daoutdoors I know its a little late, but on a two-stroke, it is possible and normal to have excess two stroke oil there in a thru-hub exhaust propeller. However, continuous dripping of lower unit oil indicates a bad prop shaft seal
It's better to take the whole thing off and clamp it on to a vice, that way its completely vertical and makes the levelling a lot better. also u missed an instruction, u should always leave 5-10 minutes AFTER it has COMPLETELY drained because there could still be air in the chamber
@jacobtyler87 Thank you for your insight, whoever completely removing the lower unit just to drain the gear case sounds like a lot of unnecessary work. As far as purging out the air, that's why you fill from the bottom.
Unless your lower unit has a drain, vent AND fill hole, always fill from the bottom hole so any air can escape through the top or "vent" hole. Thanks for the question!
Please let me know why I see dark oil came out of two small holes right above the vent screw of the gear case after I ran the motor. That wasn't happen before, so I don't really know if something is wrong with the motor or lower unit. Thanks.....Billy

Sure, the Thrust washer is the large washer that slides onto the propshaft. There is nothing holding it in place other than the prop itself. Sometimes the prop compresses the thrust washer farther up the tapered prop shaft causing feel seized. Simply spray a small amount of penetrating lubricant ( even WD40 will do) and use the biggest flathead (slotted) screwdriver and pry up on the washer. Pry up on each of the sides not just one area and it will pop free.
You should always fill the lower unit from the bottom fill to purge out any air no matter what year motor. On 4 strokes its common for the engine oil fill to be on the top of the motor. These two oils are completely different. Thank you for the comment and we are glad you liked the video!

@JamestownTV
Thanks! So the problem with air being in there is it takes the place of fluid and you might get a false indication of it being full?

Hi Billy,
It's tough to diagnose an engine with out actually being able to look at it. I would bring it in to your local marine mechanic if you are concerned.
