@ScaleModelMedic stupid question, but do you think this kind of thing would be too realistic for say... a warhammer 40k tank? Or in your opinion should i just go with my heart, and make them as gritty, nasty and real looking as i dare to?
well, if you use a method you're not being random, so it's kind of hard... one thing you could do is paint a chip on the wheel, then close your eyes, spin the wheel in your hands and then put your finger where you want the next chip and then open your eyes and paint it there.
Just make sure you dont drop it with your eyes shut or it's bye bye model pieces lol
One tip is to use a powerdrill. Attach the wheel after it has been painted, add some diluted (perhaps miss-spelled) and spinn the wheel. It will look very similar to the real thing. If you want to show a more dirty look just add some more. I mix talcum, MiG pigment and some varnish. Works great for me. Most important, don´t over do it! It´s easy to add to much mud ;O)
Ooh yeah regarding the "Future" / "Clear" comment in the video: I think that it should be mentioned that you´re probably thinking about "Johnsons Future Acrylic Floor Finish" (USA)..I´m still trying to find that product here in DK, sigh...
In the final stages of WWII German armour could be seen painted entirely in their Red Oxide Primer...Imagine that, a completely red painted Panther or King Tiger...Funky!!!
this is absolutely amazing. you are a model wizard lol i wish i could be as good as you are. cheers!

it took you 10 minutes for one single wheel!?!?!?congratulations btw....

It took longer than that per wheel if you consider drying time. I don't like to rush, best to keep control and work on the details.
