I don't understand some people. Who cares if Intel is ahead of AMD's time. I had an Intel celeron D for almost four years and even though it was a single core, It would pretty damn good. Now I got an AMD Athlon unlocked to a phenom X4 B45 OC'ED at 3.5 ghz with l3 cache unlocked. My point is you guys shouldn't argue about which brand is better than which. They both get the job done and my opinion, I think they're both great companies that make great products. Even if an AMD is cheaper.

well intel has pointed out that the new amd bulldozer fx 8xxx series isnt strong enough than a intel core i5 2500k (check all the bench marks an you see that for every higherscore by amd intel comes out with 7 benchmarks who are higher) and there price are the same. So i guess this proves that amd is atleast half a year behind the performance. Still there apus are way better than intel so if you dont have enough money for a processor and graphicks card i suggest an apu from amd would be fine
Anyways, i've used Intel over the years as i've seen a lot of unstability in AMD processors, of course they are cheaper. But i would much rather buy quality rather than unstability..

The conclusion I've come to from years of experience with computer hardware and research is: AMD and Intel are both reputable companies, both offering good products. Yes this test was unfair. However, lets look at another test that's unfair. AMD 1100T vs. Intel 2600k.
The 1100T is a 6 core, and should technically be faster than a 2600k QUAD core. However, in most cases the 2600k is significantly faster than the 1100t... even clock for clock. And that's not even mentioning the technologies Intel chips offer that AMD does not, and how much better they overclock.

Go to Anandtech's website and find the benchmark score tab. The i5 2500k varies from 10% to 50% faster in ALL of the benchmark tests and is the clear winner (Sysmark, Cinebench - Single AND MULTI-Threaded tests , Adobe Speed tests, 3dsmax, etc.). It also draws half as much power. Paired with the ability to reach over 4.5GHz on air; you lose.
@bisshoff 2500k is 180 at microcenter. The architecture is much better, cooler, and newer manufacturing process. Phenom II is old tech especially by now. And 2500k will OC like no ones business. Phenom II quad cores alone will put out like 300 watts at like 4ghz at load... They aren't bad, but come on your just being one sided and there's more to it. Sure maybe the X6 for a workstation, but for gaming.. no. Pure clockspeed of that quad core will easily be much better.

You may be getting mixed up with Hyper Transport which is similar to Intel's Quick Path Interconnect - both of which are data transport systems. Why don't you go do some actual research.

The conclusion I've come to from years of experience with computer hardware and research is: AMD and Intel are both reputable companies, both offering good products. However, to each their own, different users have different needs. Intel offers advanced technologies that most users do not utilize which AMD does not offer, thus they cost more. However, for that reason Intel chips when compared core vs. core, and clock vs. clock are faster. AMD is more budget than enthusiast, Intel is not.

Yes this test was unfair. However, lets look at another test that's unfair. AMD 1100T vs. Intel 2600k.
The 1100T is a 6 core, and should technically be faster than a 2600k QUAD core. However, in most cases the 2600k is significantly faster than the 1100t... even clock for clock. And that's not even mentioning the technologies Intel chips offer that AMD does not, and how much better they overclock.

This is truly incorrect. Intel processors benefit from a larger Cache than AMDs do. Some of the AMD tri cores also have an unlockable core to give you a Quad, beat that intel.

It's 6 MB L3 cache, between 6 cores, and it leaves less cache per core than 6 MB per 4 cores. In instances where Intel hyperthreading is used, it leaves AMD in the dust. No contest.

Go to Anandtech's website and find the benchmark score tab. The i5 2500k varies from 10% to 50% faster in ALL of the benchmark tests and is the clear winner (Sysmark, Cinebench - Single AND MULTI-Threaded tests , Adobe Speed tests, 3dsmax, etc.). It also draws half as much power. Paired with the ability to reach over 4.5GHz on air; you lose.

@bisshoff 2500k is 180 at microcenter. The architecture is much better, cooler, and newer manufacturing process. Phenom II is old tech especially by now. And 2500k will OC like no ones business. Phenom II quad cores alone will put out like 300 watts at like 4ghz at load... They aren't bad, but come on your just being one sided and there's more to it. Sure maybe the X6 for a workstation, but for gaming.. no. Pure clockspeed of that quad core will easily be much better.

@UchihaSumairu Ok go look at PassMark, i5-2500k gets 1000 more points. Plus AMD processors don't have Hyper-Threading. They will be releasing a similar technology with Bulldozer. You may be getting mixed up with Hyper Transport which is similar to Intel's Quick Path Interconnect - both of which are data transport systems. Why don't you go do some actual research.
