Can't see what the fuss is all about. The 3D model is different than the real person. Look at their jaw line for example, totally different! Of course their expressions will look somewhat different. If you get two real people inside a room and make them do the same things, they will do the same things, but there will be differences because their bodies and physical abilities will influence the outcome. Either way, Image Metrics is AWESOME! :]

I dont see any MoCap 'dots' on her face. Looks.. pre-rendered, shall we say. Unless you've found a way to capture the contour lines of the face and translate that to the character. Though, I dont think thats the case either because the girl turned her head slightly sometimes and shifted position, but the characters face never changed. Not nearly an expert on the subject, however. It might be on that link that you supplied, but I'm to lazy and dont care enough to find out. =P

the technique they employ is called Image Metrics. it's similar 2 motion capture, but different. for an incredible example, type 'Emily CGI' or 'Image Metrics' into the YouTube search bar.
