This video shows the old Ames. Too many apartment complexes were built in the new Ames in the West part of town. Those apartments sat empty for a long time. The owners of these buildings had to find revenue or foreclose. They certainly found their revenue, by opening their apartments to be section 8 housing. Then hordes of people from Chicago moved in. Murders, muggings, and rapes soon skyrocketed. It's really sad to see my old college town transform in such a negative way.
