  • Simply beautiful. From the trains to the location. Thank for posting!

  • @kelsogray Thank you for your kindness, which is greatly appreciated...Bob

  • Hi Robert, I have daughters living in Abergavenny so I am pretty familiar with the whole line, Newport to Chester. Apart from one northbound journey in the 1950s to see some elderly and distant(!) family members in Hereford - with absolutely no idea now of the engine on the front - I've never travelled it in anything but a class158 which isn't at all comparable to the sort of progress filmed here. I trust you have your 'pitch' reserved for the next lot.

  • @jaceybus It's always a pleasure to get feedback that one of my videos evoke such happy memories. This particular location is not easy to reach especially when you're in your sixties. Having said that, who knows what the future holds....this is a magical location....Bob

  • Thank goodness we still breed and are able to call on such sporting loco crews. Splendid work splendidly filmed. Tks.

  • @jaceybus It certainly is, these crews often don't get the praise they deserve...Thanks for your kind comments...Bob

  • Wonderful view of that engine coming through the trees, you picked a perfect spot Bob.

  • @eurodestination Thanks Gary, it's a hard location to get to, but I love it when I get there......Bob

  • Great to have the two tours on one day and what a great location. I was working so couldn't get out for them, missed Tornado at Stratford as well, car trouble :-(

  • @MG06ZT Sorry to hear about your car Keith, I'd been looking forward to this day for months, and I loved every minute of it....Bob

  • @robmasterman To be fair it's not the car's fault, I had the alternator re-placed about a month ago and it came loose!! So much for going to a 'good' garage. Fighting fit again now, might pop out for the two test trains tomorrow :-)

  • Awesome video, great location and camerawork!

  • @pacelweb Thanks very much for such kind comments, which are received with much appreciation....Bob

  • Glad you had a good tripod: even with the wind its a cracking piece of vid showing the locos off at their best!

  • @fatheribrahim11 I was holding on when panning, which was difficult enough when at either full zoom or partial zoom.....Thank you for your kind comments....Bob

  • I know but its going to be at least 2 years. Retired now mate!

  • @caerphillycastle Congratulations....Time to sit back and enjoy....Bob

  • Hi Bob, just got back from Caribbean cruise so missed the Llanvihangel bash.

Great footage mate. Savour it as the King will be off the main line after next March.

  • @caerphillycastle Oooooh there's posh...hope all went well. They plan to fast track the King so hopefully it won't be off the Main line for too long....Bob

  • Завтра был мой день рождения :-)

  • @oleg1973durov С Днем Рождения....Bob

  • @robmasterman Спасибо Bob! Из Великобритании меня поздравили в первый раз. Thank you Bob! From the UK I was congratulated for the first time.

  • Excellent video Bob, a great location to really get a long shot

  • @ervans Thanks Ervan, much appreciated...Bob

  • Beautiful shots Bob. Thank you. Philippe

  • @PhilbruProduction Thank you as always Philippe....Bob

  • Very impressive vid and a great location! It was awesome the way the exhaust cloud seemed on occasion to be moving as fast as the train!

  • @JimTLonW6 Thank you Jim, it's a wonderful place to visit, but it's such a steep climb it gets harder these days to get up there. The steam was following the train as there was a very strong wind blowing.....Thanks for your subscriprion as well, which is greatly appreciated....Bob

  • Another great video Bob - I have to share this with my friends in Canada!

  • @heabow Thanks Peter, I hope your friend enjoys it....Bob

  • Thanks again for sharing a superb film Bob, the location perfect and the sound brings back fond memories of Super D's banking long freights up the bank when I was very small!! And the name is Wayne for future reference.

  • @veryhappychappy12 Thanks very much Wayne, your kind comments are greatly appreciated.....I knew the Super D's worked to LMS lones to Brynmawr, but I wasn't aware of them banking up Llanfihangel.....Bob

  • Nice to see Steam having a good run at the bank. You did well despite the windy conditions :)

  • @Steam1989 Thanks David, and good to see you again...Bob

  • fantastic video bob looks like a fantastic location bet it was a bit cold though lol

    Adam

  • @1adamstephen It's a wild, windy and wonderful place to experience Adam....Thanks again for your kind comments...Bob

  • Superb film of two great engines climbing the bank with lovely scenery as a backdrop. I've subscribed to your channel. Please take a look, comment at my clip of Tornado leaving Paddington on Saturday. If you like, subscribe back. Barry

  • @bkendlerA4 Thank you for your kind and greatly appreciated comments Barry...I have complied with your requests...Regards...Bob

  • Magnificent video Bob. These age old steamers can still attain a very respectable speed when climbing. Fabulous stuff.

  • @JPMiller14 Thanks Justin, when you think the King is 81 years old it's an amazing machine....Bob

  • Great video, lovely scenery.

  • @locomotive67 Thanks very much....Bob

  • @robmasterman Your welcome

  • Excellent video Bob despite the difficult conditions (which didn't affect the finished production in any way for me). Great to see two fine locos (and crew) on top form. as you know, I love steam "in the countryside" and this hits right on the button. Thanks for going out and then sharing this. Chris

  • @khankadet Thanks Chris. I'm always envious of you being able to film so much material up on the Northern Hills, and this once a year occasion is the closest I cab get to it......Bob

  • Love the sound of a big steamers 'pullin'. . .

    Thanks Bob

  • @lionbill My pleasure Bill, thanks for watching....Bob

  • Great vid Bob, and your vantage point was well chosen, even if a bit lofty and windy! Both locos in tremendous form and I love your use of the scenery a long range which really does set it off so well. I thought you did well in coping with the wind as it's bad enough trying to keep your feet but even worse trying to keep the tripod steady simultaneously. Great watching and enjoyment and thanks for sharing it! Ken

  • @kenbrowne1947 Thanks very much Ken, it's a wonderful location, but as it's on a steep climb, it can be easy to slip when making a 180 degree pan...still loved every minute of it though.....Bob

  • It is no wonder that Llanfihangel bank is your favourite location, Bob. The view from your location, and the sound of the locos working hard is great...Mervyn

  • @mvjedforest It's been a favourite of mine for years Mervyn, however much hard climbing is required, which gets harder each year that passes.....but it's worth every moment....Bob

  • Great video Bob. Good to see you back videoing mainline steam. Seeing your video made me wish I had made the trip today to see them. Keith

  • @hemerdonbank We don't see much steam down our way Keith this was an hour and a quarter from home, but a fantastic day out....Thanks for your kind comments....Bob

  • The clouds behind the treees, steam show at it's best! ;) I luve it!

  • @trainfart Thank you very much for your kind comments...Bob

  • Stunning footage Bob loved every minute of it.

6024 was certenly flying up the bank.

    JamesandPeter

  • @JamesandPeter Thanks very much, I've not seen it tackle this climb any better...Bob

  • Bob, A classic location showing the true power of a steam locomotive. As ever great camerawork and thanks for sharing. Regards, John

  • @molzips Thank you once again John, for your continued and greatly appreciated support...Bob

  • Fantastic video Bob thanks for sharing this gem.All the best ...Andre..

  • @magic1ond Thank you Andre, tour comments are greatly appreciated...Bob

  • Gosh this takes me back to happy times Bob. A freind and I used to video steam specials here many years ago when camcorders were shoulder mounted! We wore his car out chasing trains! Its good to now see such fine clear recordings in the area!

  • @ADMIRALSCORNER That's nice to know Mike, I've also been going here for 40 years but videoing for 32...we are so lucky having such a wonderful hobby to keep us going....Bob

  • Loved it Bob! Rich

  • @cuzinitr Thanks Rich....a wonderful day out in glorious countryside....Bob

  • Another great video Bob, and with some fine shots of steam (you know I'm a sucker for steam!) Certainly worth braving the gusty weather for.

  • @Bobcatonline Thanks Rob, seeing both these fine locos in one session really was special....Bob

  • Location - Location - Location as they say, and this proves the point Bob, it speaks for itself in my view. What a long shot eh? superb scenery and colours, extremely well captured, and magnificent sounds too.

Like it - Like it - Like it.... Paul :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 Thanks Paul, it's superb vantage point, but it nearly killed me getting up there...No people, trafiic or other distractions....then the trains come....Brilliant and spine chilling.....Bob

  • Bob doing what Bob does best! :-) Super stuff! What were the timings - how long did you have to wait for Tornado? Straight into "Favs" - Mike

  • @NN2Blue Thanks again Mike, there was a two hour gap between them, if I'd moved I would never have had the energy to get back up there....will send you timmings by EMail....Bob

  • Great filming, Bob. Hard weather to film in but it makes the whole thing wild and exciting. Almost feel like I know the place myself as it seems like a favourite spot. Both fine engines - real power!

OS Nock, travelling on one of the last steam hauled Bristolians with a King at its head, asked the driver what he thought about the coming of new motive power. Answer "With engines as good as these why would we need anything else?" Good story! …. Hᴜɢʜ….TU…..ツ

  • @HughFromAlice Thanks very much Hugh for your informative, and greatly appreciated comments,,,,Giants of Steam for sure....Bob

  • Superb video Bob of two fine locos in some beautiful scenery. Both locos sounded great. Regards, Jeff.

  • @bobnweaver Thanks Jeff, it's a long hard slog all the way from Newport to here, then down hill all the way to Hereford, so it certainly tests locos and crews alike....Bob

  • Great stuff Bob. Thank you for going out and filming these two. Where did they get that old Anglian coach from behind the King? Seems anything will do again!! All the best Bob....Tim.

  • @siobhan104 I've no idea Tim, it would be nice to have a matching set down here once in a while, but a treat to see these two Giants anyway....Thanks again....Bob

  • Excellent stuff Bob! Sounded lovely, 5* and fav'd

  • @itfcsam Thanks Sam, I loved every minute of the day....Bob

  • stunning footage stunning sound with enough noise to waken the dead . its a like from me bob........cheers kev

  • Brilliant video Bob considering the windy conditions.Well worth the effort to get that view. You had time there to get your breathe back.(C)

  • @EMuksteam The amount of effort to get to this location is getting more as each year goes by C, it's worth it although for how many more years, who knows....Thanks again...Bob

  • Really liked the atmosphere only steam can bring now we're getting into winter. Can almost smell the soot and sulphur..............Mike

  • @modemeyes It was a magical few hours Mike, and well worth the cold and wind....Bob

  • wow that is some amazing footage u got there!

  • @poisonarrowfrog100 Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it....Bob

  • A wonderful location Bob and equally good coverage. The views must be something else on a clear day. Thumbs up...Keith

  • @MonochromeLoco I needed oxygen when I got to my chosen location Keith, but it's a view to die for...but not literarly .....Bob

  • No surprises that 6024 thrashed Llanfihangel in a 4 cylinder fine style, it's probably the loco's finest performance up the bank for a number of years. Now we need 5043 to do it!! Tornado made fine work up the climb with a nice 3 cylinder beat. It's a shock to see how much lineside vegetation has grown over Llanvihangel the past 15 years

  • @GreatWestern175 As you say Ry 5043 must do it next year, but the King was flying up there...wonderful stuff...Bob

  • Nice and really great video Bob: wonderful steam sound. Gian ;)

  • @Gian2812 Thank you my friend, much appreciated...Bob

  • Great video Bob,that Tornado sure looks well just goes to show that us Brits are still the best in engineering..............John

  • Cracking footage Bob in very windy conditions. I was down there yesterday but failed miserably to find the right location,

    Mike

  • @rab4472 What a shame Mike, you should have asked me I would have guided you to the right places...next time maybe.....Thanks as always...Bob

  • Superb. Really enjoyed. Thank you.

  • @AN21files Thank you very much, I'm pleased you enjoyed it...Bob

  • Absolutely brilliant Bob never mind 5* it's worth a 10*. Cheers Bill

  • @84asrd84boxy Thank you Bill, your 10* is greatly appreciated....Bob

  • You must have posted this in a hurry, Bob. "Blustery" has lost its "y" and "favourite" spelled the American way! :) Nevertheless a wonderful bit of filming. Enjoyed every minute, loved the whistles, didn't notice any shaking at all, and you finished with a farmer's 4x4 which is heaps better than shoulder-to-shoulder photographers!

Well done, glad you found the journey worth while and thanks for uploading it. . . . . Alan

  • @balmesh Thanks as always Alan, mistakes now corrected....I was doing this at 00.30 this morning, so not at my best.....Bob

  • To robmasterman

Wow - it must be quite a long way to (and from) your location on the Marches. I hope you managed to keep warm in between the trains? You have also kept your reputation for the "Fastest uploader in the West!" . . . . Alan

  • @balmesh Thanks Alan, this event was well worth the journey..it was getting colder during the afternoon, and I couldn't leave the location as it was too strenuous a climb back up there. Processing and uploading took over six hours...Bob

  • Wonderful and thanks for the posting Bob

  • @001ttg Thanks very much...it's my pleasure...Bob

  • Excellent coverage Bob, the performances of both locos and cameraman were top drawer, that is one of the better locations I have seen on youtube you must be able to see the loco for at least 4 miles and you handled the blustery weather well.

    Thanks for posting.....Regards Phil.

  • @981smithy Thanks Phil, I was holding on to the tripod otherwise we both would have rolled down the field...but in the end it was a fabulous day.....Bob

  • What a wonderful location. The King was shifting with that load. Despite the wind the sound carried well as well.

  • @AndreiTupolev It certainly is Andrei, and one I've used for many years....It was amazing the way an 81 year old loco was able to perform so well.....Thanks as always...Bob

  • FAB U LOUS! lovely shots Bob of two great loco's,with 12 on the King and 13 on Tornado it's lovely to see these long trains.Lovely location too.

  • @wooltman Thanks Chris, it was an unforgetable sight, and one I've been looking forward to for a long time...Bob

  • Tremendous footage Bob, good to see performances like that from loco and crews who were obviously enjoying themselves. I notice the sheep that scattered as the King passed must have realised another train was due and stayed well clear at the top end of the field!

  • @acw71000 Thanks Austin, I've been waiting for this day for months, I missed it last year due to snow. The King at 81 years of age certainly gave the new kid on the block a run for its money....Bob

  • great video bob

  • @uhm121 Thanks John.....Bob

  • King Edward certainly doing a magnificent job there (as well as the cameraman) 12 coaches ,with no pusher, and of course Tornado doing the same, but a good few years younger, well caught Bob, from a great location

  • @howarth004 Thanks Dave, it was the best day out filming I've had for a long time, beautiful, wild countryside and two steam hauled trains....truly heaven.....Bob

  • Very nice video bob. what a lovely location as well. I was on the bank as well little bit lower then you see the king by. shame it was a windy day and it pick up a bit before tornado started to come up the line. thumbs up

  • @GJDobbzy Thanks Gareth, iit's a wonderful location for filming, and it was a real shame that the wind was so wild....Bob

  • Bob You sure know where to pick your spots to video and you must know the area well to know where to go.

Steam train and wind makes for a long distance video.

a outstanding coverage of this great steam locomotive and train.

    Wayne

  • @canvids1 Thanks Wayne, this is superb area for seeing trains in beautiful countryside. The King iks 81 years old and Tornado is only 3 years old.....Bob

  • Two simply stunning clips Bob. You were brave venturing up there in those conditions but you did well and the results are superb. You were certainly spoilt getting two steam tours within a few hours.

  • @cmeonthemove It was a real treat, shame about the wind, but it remained dry until I headed home....Bob
