This looks really good...I'm looking forward to trying it...but I have a question...Did your Mom's recipe call for All-Purpose Flour or Self Rising Flour...?
@sharonfromky I've always used the plain ole All Purpose flour. The key is to roll them out as flat as you can. That way they slide down your throat better!
My family also makes flat square dumplings... but to the flour mixture salt, pepper & sage. A great seasoning for chicken. We also boil our chicken with celery, onions salt, pepper, sage and for ump chicken stock or bouillon. After the chicken is done we take it out and remove the bones. Strain the broth and put it back in the pot. Add the chicken, cream of chicken and chicken noodle soup. Bring to a roaring boil and add the dumplings just as you recomended. Yummy what beer wouldn't go with this
That looks so yummy! I'm from Missouri and my family makes their dumplings flat also, but a little thicker and maybe a little smaller. But I think I'm going to give your recipe a try!
I am a Chicken and Dumplin's connoisseur. They are my favorite comfort food. I'm used to boiled chicken and have never heard of potatoes in them, but I like to see how others make theirs. Thanks for posting.
I've made without dumpling and didn't like them as much. Believe it or not, potatoes actually give the dumplings a starchy flavor that is hard to do without!
This is exactly how my grandma made it. The dumplings use to just wiggle its way down my throat as a girl and the stock and chicken was so tasty. I always had to lick my fork and drink the bowl empty before asking for seconds.

That's good to know. If I ever get invited to chicken and dumplings out that way, I won't be afraid to say yes!

Glad to help. But there is something about Mom's dumplings, mine are never as good. Maybe my mom left part of the recipe out too!

You should have your own cooking show Gary. Never had chicken and dumplings, and I think I could make them if I wanted to now after seeing that.
