  • wuts wrong with the song in the beginning?

  • In Swedish it's April, April, din dumma sill, meaning April, April, you stupid herring.

    I guess it's a coincidence, though.

  • If you order poisson but say it wrongly, they will bring you poison.

    That was hilarious !! :P :P

  • I think one correct way of saying "I speak a little French" would be "Je parle un peu de Francais." OR "Je parle une petite peu de Francais". I don't think I got the articles correct, but this is the general idea.

  • bonjour remy

your lessons have been so helpful:)

i was wondering if saying "je parle francais un petit" would be a correct way of saying "i speak a little french"

if not, what should i say?

    merci!

  • salut remy

your lessons have been so helpful:)

i was wondering if saying "je parle francais un petit" was a correct way of saying "i speak a little french"

    Kudos!

  • Hey Remi, Thanks so much for these lessons. I am An English lady married to an Acadien husband Who speaks Chiac which is a major mix of both languages. I understand very well But have had so much difficulty with the pronounciation. I live in a bilingual community and practice often, but YOUR method of teaching Has allowed me to really understand where I was going wrong with my sounds.P.S. My husband takes credit for my new found confidence but I have you both to thank!

  • Hum bof là. Si tu dis que les gamins de 10 ans parlent déjà anglais et que tu proposes même ton aide à tout le monde, alors comment arrives tu encore à confondre les verbes "apprendre" et "enseigner" en anglais ?? Enseigner c'est "to teach". Donc ce que tu voulais dire c'est :

    I can TEACH you French.

Sans rancune hein je corrige c'est tout !

  • well, anyway, i actually took down notes and i seem to follow it better with it...

  • Non je suis français :)

  • tnx Remy. your lessons are very useful, and made it easy to learn. previously, i was scared to learn french, it seemed sooo foreign, and difficult, but the way you explain grammar is very encouraging. Merci

  • Bonjour Remi, je suis italien, et merci beaucup pour ton travaille!

I'm starting to learn basic french with your lessons, I guess I'm privileged because I already do speak italian and spanish, but what you do is just excellent! simple and useful!

One tiny note, but I'm not sure, the way you pronounced "zorro" is the latino-american way I think, in correct spanish the Z sounds like the english "th" in the word "thin".

  • You are correct. You're referring to Castilian (castellano) Spanish as spoken in Spain where the "s" is like the English "th".

  • the word in English is "Latinamerican", and you're right about the pronunciation of Z in Castilian Spanish as the "th" combination in English. However you cannot state that the "th" sound is "correct Spanish" for there is simply the way it is pronounce in Spain and the way it is pronounce in Latinamerica neither are correct or incorrect, they're just different.

  • How many languages do you actually speak? Your videos are English, French is your mothertongue, you obviously speak Spanish on a certain level and you already said some things in German (about the gender "der die das"). I am German and French is the first language after English I am about to learn. It took me such a long time to learn English that I never made the step to go for another language, because English is often sufficient. You made me start. Thanks!

  • Ich spreche Französisch und Englisch fließend, und ich habe einige Kenntnisse in Spanisch und Deutsch. Ich studierte Latein und Griechisch. Ich bin froh, dass ich inspiriert Sie versuchen Erlernen der französischen Sprache :)

    Hakim.

  • haha... you're so funny. It's good to learn and have a laugh at the same time. :)

  • i like ur teachings but learning french can be a pain in the ass

  • Speaking of Edith Piaf, you mentioned Remy that watching French movies with English subtitles helps learn the language. True, true. But after much experiementing I think for me anyway the best way for now is finding French songs on Youtube with English subs, and French song CDs with English lyrics. When the language is sung it is usually pretty slow and therefore easier to follow.

Plus if one learns to sing the songs, the words seem to stick in the brain better. Just a thought!

  • A thought for anyone it might help. Remy you mentioned watching French movies with subtitles to help learn the language and that has been some help to me. I have been experimenting with various methods to go along with these lessons. So far French songs with English subtitles, as can be searched out on Youtube, or French song CDs with printed English lyrics, seem best for this one gal. Sung words usually go slowly. Plus if one learns to sing the lyrics, they kind of imprint into one's mind.

  • Salut! Why isn't it DU Avril but it's DE Avril? Isn't Avril masculine, and I thought we are supposed to put an article in front of months. So shouldn't it be de+le Avril?

  • It is actually d'

Le mois d'avril (the month of April)

    de = of

    du = from / some

  • hey there, love the videos. i was wondering if you could translate a video for me. its on youtube. it is a song called sophie by edith Piaf. i am sure you know who she is. if you could i would be very grateful.

  • bonjour remy,je m'appele Judy,, je suis etudiant.. just want to ask how can we identify if the word is musculine or feminine..

  • You just have to learn them one at a time I'm afraid...

  • hi remy im from Taiwan .

and i really like your videos.

it's really helpful for me .

it's my first time to learn France and i like your teach way , it's quite easy and funny :D

  • I realy like your videos.

I lived in Dallas for 9 years and met a lovely couple from Normandy. I've been to France 5 times and can't wait to go again!

Question..I sing opera in French and was told that the un/um sound is nasal but not like the in/ain etc. It is written different in my dictionary. They sound similar but not the same. Example: the vowel in saint is not the same as in brun.

In this lesson it sounds like you're saying there are the same sounds. Could you clarify?

    Thanks!

  • Thank you for your comment.

The "in" sound in "saint" and "brun" is for me identical.

    Go figure :)

  • Technically they sound slightly different and it's important for singers, but for everyone else they are pretty much the same.

  • You are very very good teacher in french's lessons. I like so much and I watch yours videos always when I have time. I speak portuguese, I am from Brazil but I live in USA-California and I love frenc. I have a quenstion. Where are you from?

    Thank you so much Remy.

    Bye bye.

  • I was born in Paris France but I currently reside in Dallas Texas.

  • waldman, lol, i agree with you 100%. but i think remy doing a good job. its not easy to teach. remy, a little faster pace would make your lectures much much better. but its your choice. i have no idea how hard it is to teach a foreign language. viva la france.

  • Remy, i enjoy your teachings, but it takes you 5 minutes to teach 1 word - please try to be more efficient with your teaching and get to the lesson quicker and move on to the next, quicker.

  • Hello Remy,

I am disappointed, that you have so few lessons brought in to view. I would like to practice with verbs (I learned by head 200 most used french verbs) and complete lines. Where is this in your lessons?

  • Excelent work my friend you are the best gracias por las notas para los hispanohablantes los sonidos y algunas palabras y significados son muy similares the notes for spanishspeakers are so usefull the sounds and means are very similar to spanish language any help you need just ask me

  • Je m'appelle Jeaune et tes videos sont tres bon. Je ne sais pas beaucoup des francaise mais un peu, j'ai étudié pour deux années =).

    merci

    au revoir

  • Salut salut^^

Je suis français, je regarde quand même les vidéos et je me rend compte en fait que le français est pas si simple que ça a apprendre :p

  • i dont understand so does the les poisson and le poisson have the same pronounciation? if it does how do people know which one your talking about?

  • Le poisson / Les poissons

le and les are pronounced differently so that would be a clue but you're correct in saying that poisson or poissons are pronounced the same since the "s" and the end of the word is silent.

Once can deduce which is which from context and from other words in the sentence.

  • Parabéns pelo seu trabalho de ajudar pessoas sem receber absolutamente nada.

Só me resta dizer obrigado.

  • Nobody's perfect :)

Moi aussi je fais des erreurs.

    Communication not perfection!

  • je crois que l´idée de faire ca ici , pour tous les autres, qui veut appeler du francais est bien , parcque ils peuvent appeler sans payer pour ca et c´est un idée bien. Je suis désole pour mon francais , mais j´ai du francais depuis de 3 ans.

  • J'ai tout compris :)

    Good job.

  • Its good to hear another video is on its way, thanks very much! And don't worry I'm pretty sure you have other priorities and its understandable... we just can't wait.. bisouuuuuu.. take care Rémy!

  • That was some hard working man at the end lol. He looked cool at the end lol.

  • Rémyyyyyyy... when would be the next lesson be??? :( I know its not easy.. but we'll be waiting and keep checking if you've done any.. bisouuuuuuu..

  • Working on it. Sorry about the wait.

Check the blog in the meantime.

  • It is a pity that the lessons were given in English. It is a pity. They should be given totally in French.

  • If they're given in english only.. how can he teach us??? Are yu nuts?

  • Then how the hell would we know what he's saying to begin with?

  • Yesssssss Rémy... pls make a dvd and I would like to buy ittttttt.... svpppp!!! Oh.. I live in Australia.. j'habite l'australie.. hmm.. is that right? MDR (mort de rire)

  • A DVD... Let me think about it lol :)

    Tu habites en Australie

  • I'm taking my french exam tomorrow. Thanks for posting these vid's. It nice to get all the basics refreshed. :-) Though I've had French lessons for 5 years, I still don't can't speak in sentences. :D

  • great lesson remy as always! :)

  • With your clever stories, you make words easily memorable! Thanks so much. I am currently in Paris and I take lessons 4 hours a day... then I come home and watch one of your videos and say, "OH! So, that is why..." You should make teaching DVD's - I would buy them for sure!

  • Thanks. You're very kind :)

  • Hi Remy, thanks for making these videos. Been a great learning so far. The most difficult aspect of learning has been pronounciation with the r and the nasal sounds on en un ^^;

  • Don't worry it IS difficult :) Give yourself time.

Thanks for you kind comments :)

  • bonjour remy, merci pour la leçon. Sa grande aide pour les personnes qui iront à Paris comprenant moi.

    is my grammar right...?

i know its kinda wrong right?

  • Ca aide les personnes qui iront à Paris.

    I think :)

  • I have been looking for French lessons on YouTube in preparation for a week in Québec City in July teaching English to children. No absolute need for French in that context, but it's a perfect excuse to open a little door to another culture. With what I have learned so far, I can now say with confidence: "Je suis le poisson d'avril." :-)

  • Salut Remy!

I have recently found your french lessons and i am really enjoying them! I have started about a week ago!

    Take care!

    Jmina

    =)

  • yay! Remy's back! Salut! J'aime beaucoup de tes lecons!

Mon francais est tres mauvaise, mais j'apprends un peu chaque jours. Tes lecons m'aident toujours!

Please excuse my lousy french. i hope u don't mind correcting me?

    Great to see you again!

  • Ton français n'est pas mauvais du tout :-)

    "chaque jour"

  • Thanks alot!

oh... chaque jour is wrong then?

Pardonnez-moi, mais je sais pas comment (est-ce que) on dit 'every day' au francais.

How do i shake off that est-ce que, by the way?

  • Tous les jours

  • ¨Hey remy Ça va? je ça va bien, mon leçon du françois est etre bien... im still learning a lot fcause as you can see i dont write so well...

How are your spanish lessons.... espero que bien por que me aburre el ingles jajaja

well nice to see you again and your videos i will have a lot of time to study in vacations

    au revoir

  • Ca va merci. Estoy bien y tu?

    You meant to say:

"Ta leçon de Français est bien"

But the most important thing is that I understood what you meant. Good show!

  • I'm glad you are still making videos. I was really disappointed when I saw you were not making them as often. I was learning from Frenchtastic, but he taught me something that my French-Canadian friend said was not correct, so I began looking again, only to find you =]

Please keep teaching, so that when I move to Montreal, I can speak French with my friends! Thank you <3

  • I do intend on making many more videos :-)

Thanks for your interest and kind comments :-)

  • Thank you for lesson 11. I thought you gave up teaching. Explaining how some of the combined letters (eg. on, en, un, ain) should be pronounced is very helpful. I hope you do more of them, because they help me to be able to read French.

  • Yes I do hope to make many more lessons because of nice people just like you :-)

  • There is no better person for these videos!

  • it was good but very short. maybe a little longer and more learning next time. other than that nice entry!!! haha

  • Its been very long since you upload your last tutorial! WE missed you a lot!

  • Sorry about that. I'll try to do better :-)

  • ¡Chidísimo por el regreso! Y justo unos días luego del fin de las vacaciones aquí en México. Saludos y gracias por la dedicación.
