You keep referring to a previous video you made that makes a smaller ball. I've searched for it on your channel and can't seem to find it. Will you please send me a link? Email it to me if you're able @ lhi2305@gmail.com Thank you so much! You're an awesome teacher! I've made several hats by watching you crochet! Keep up the awesome tutorials!
When you SC in one SC from the previous row, you can push the hook through, yarn over, pull through one, then yarn over, pull through two? That works?
I am just starting to learn crochet and learning to understand the crochet lingo lol and stumbled on this one, wondering if any crocheters can help me?
Rnd 2: *Sc 1, 2sc in next st.* Rep. (18)
Rnd 3: *Sc 2, 2sc in next st.* Rep. (24)
For Rnd3: does that mean: make 2sc in each stitch? Cause that would not make 24, if Rnd 2 already has 18 stitches :S
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I used this along with one of your other videos for making a crochet leaf and made 3 apples to give to my teachers on the last day of school. Thanks once again!!!
how do you make desings in the hacky sack?,i think you have to change yarn, and if you do have to change yarn is there a way you can tie off to a diferent section of yarn? thanks, and great video
I've done this twice now... But when it comes to the decreases, it seems that it starts to look a little messy. Especially when I get to the very end. There are a ton of gaps. Is there anyway to avoid this?
you are so good at this! like wiremysoul. i am 12 but all i lknow how to crochet is a chain...:) can you make a video in slow motion? only if you can though you dont have to.:)
Wow! What a great video. I've never crocheted before and I've almost got it on my first try. i probably would've if I would have counted. =P I'm still going on my first try; I'm just afraid that it's not going to get the 3 dimensional shape and it will just lay flat.
Wow! What a great video. I've never crocheted before and I've almost got it on my first try. i probably would've if I would have counted. =P I'm still going on my first try; I'm just afraid that it's not going to get the 3 dimensional shape and it will just lay flat.
@cloudbunny786 How long have you been crocheting? What part are you not getting? If you are a beginner, I suggest that you practice with the beginner crochet stitches first and become familiar with the anatomy of crochet and then come back and try a project. It will help cut down on the frustration.
@cloudbunny786 yeah, she's right. when i was learning, i tried to get ahead of myself by trying more complex stitches rather than learning the basics first. now, crocheting is much easier since i got the basics down :) she's actually pretty thorough with her explanations and annotations, just keep practicing :D
i am new to crochet and i bought a variety pack of 100% cotton 6strand, as suggested by a friend who makes Amigurumi critters. Is this really the best media to work with for a beginner, or would thinner yarn work better? I would like to be able to make an Amigurumi "Voidwalker" (from world of warcraft) for my brother for his birthday in december. :)
How would you make a bigger ball.. maybe a foot wide ?.. what would be the pattern for that .. 6/12/24/36 is about 4 inches across. Thank you.. Your video is very well explained.
Ok, I'm new to crocheting and I'm getting a little confused to which side is the "right" side or the outside of the ball. Mine seems to curl in the opposite direction of yours. I actually did an amigurumi Ninja Turtle :) and I think I have it on the wrong side. The side I have on the outside almost looks like little squares. Not sure if you can help or not. I appreciate any insight! Thanks!
i reallly reallly need to learn this so can you plllllzzzzzz make a video in slow motion and real time... im very slow and dumb and i wanna make dolls for my children
your vids are so helpfull ty :) could you make a vid on how to so amigurumi legs to the body , im just begining to crochet , i had to teach my self TY:) SO MUCH!
You work two stitches in the same stitch to increase the size of the ball. If you look at the top of each stitch, you will see two loops that create a V shape. You put your hook under the two loops.
@Bigsischass put the hook through the same stitch you have already stitched on, two single crochets into the same single crochet, it's just doubling the amount of stitches really
Thanks for the video! It was really useful especially since I am a beginner. I get the feeling that I will be doing a lot more crochet in the future :)
I keep watching over and over, and I just can't catch how you start off. You go so fast! Would it be difficult for you to make another video, showing just the first 2 rounds very slowly and clearly?
Thank you so much for the very easy to understand and follow instructional video. I had never crocheted a ball before, and was quite surprised how easy it was. I had been making a baby shower gift (2 hats, 2 pr. booties) and I was able to add in an adorable soft ball. My kids liked it so much that I'll be making another one for them in thicker yarn.
Thank you! I've searched and searched and searched for a video on making balls, that shows the entire process and are easy to follow. You, m'lady, are a crochet goddess!
i make it simpler i chain 4 join then i make 2 rows of singles then make 2 rows of 2 doubles p stitch then i make sc in each till its the half size of the ball then i start decreasing and then finaly its done :D
The ball is the basic shape that can be used for crochet animals, heads or figures. Some people use it as a hacky sack ball to play with. You can make things up or use it as a guide to another set of written instructions. The ball can be looked at as a blank template.
I would suggest becoming familiar with the basic crochet stitches if you are new to crochet. The video also has pause and stop if you need to watch something again.
Thankyou SO much for your video and the way you have presented the tutorial. I didn't think I'd ever be able to get the hang of this but your tutorial has helped me so much. Including the written instructions underneath is extremely helpful (some of the other tutorials don't include the written instructions).
You are welcome. Recently I have been marking the round or row instead of instructions. The full instructions are posted on my crochet blog. You will be able to follow along by the row or round number.
I think that your tutorials are very well done, I love that they have slow motion to practice with. Do you have any plans for showing the magic loop method for left handed people? I can't seem to find one anywhere. Thanks for helping all of us out here!
I looooove your videos. lets just say your the one who taught me to crochet. are you going to make a video of you making a full amigurumi doll? from your videos I got the head and the arms and legs, but the body? thats beyond me haha.thanks again!
Hi! Thanks for posting this video! I'm new to crocheting and I have a question about the type of yarn needed to crochet. I noticed you said you were using the size G crochet hook, but what about yarn? Is it best to use yarn that is meant for 4mm or size G-6 crochet hooks? I seem to have a hard time finding the holes of my single crochets when doing the rounds, I wonder if this has to do with either the yarn or the way I am crocheting...
You are welcome. I was using 4-ply yarn. I have also used hooks F,G H I,J,K with 4-ply yarn. You may naturally crochet tight or your yarn may be smaller. There are a lot of variables with crochet that can affect the outcome of the size.
There is no reason why you will not be able to do it. Take your time, watch the video and practice the first few rounds. Once you get those, then move on to the rounds after. This is a project that can be done in about 1/2 hour if you have an understanding of crochet.
i was a knitter before i even atempted crochet. it only started as a way to fill time in the library and i learned from a random book(i couldnt reallly understand it you have clarified things for me and been really helpfull and im using your tutorials alot as they are very easy to follow!) but to my question i hold my wool with my right hand. i find it very difficult to hold the yarn anyother way. ive been a knitter for most of my life so its natural to me. should i try and break this habit?
You should hold the yarn in a way that is comfortable for you. There are only suggested methods with holding crochet yarn. I don't hold my yarn according to the suggested method. If it is working for you, don't change.
I am doing single crochet. There is only one movement of the hook for a slip stitch and one loop on the hook to complete the slip stitch. A single crochet has two loops on the hook before it is completed.
Different countries have different names for the crochet stitches. If that is the case, that can make it confusing. I am teaching American crochet stitches.
Fantastic. Thank you so much for demonstrating how to do this. I'm very new to crochet but I'm already hooked. You're a natural teacher - keep up the good work. Thank You!
is there a way to make a rectangular verson of this? like if you want to make cube looking plush toys? i was just wondering if thats possible and if so how could i accive it?
You can start the ball how ever you want to if you have a way that you are more comfortable with. Is that the way where you crochet around the thread and then pull it when you have crocheted around so many stitches? That way would work just as good. :)
Excellent!!! Wow, you have helped me soooooo much. Last night I finally jumped in and started my first ami, and I totally biffed it. I did not get the spiral crochet thing, so I ended up with a half moon-not at all what was needed. The do not join rounds part of the pattern totally confused me, but you have shown me the light. Thank You so much. You are amazing-keep up the good work.
Thanks for your video on Amigurumi. Very very helpful. This is the first time mum and i have ever attempted amigurumi, you have really made it very clear to understand and learn.
thanks for this demo, i realize that's the best way to make a hacky sac or footbag. I m a man and i love crochet, i do some hat, beanies and hacky sac.
I love your demonstrations. I've crocheted 6 hats after seeing your videos. Can you make videos for crocheting baby booties? I have 2 new nephews on the way in the next 2 months. Thanks so much for all your dedication!

What can I do to help you in getting found? Which round is causing you trouble?
tjw1963 3 years ago
Thank you so much! Your tutorial has helped a lot!^_^ Btw, if I wanted to make a bigger size of this ball, how would I do it?
keitachi 3 years ago
You would do more increase stitches. That means, you will be adding additional rows with two stitches per stitch to increase.
tjw1963 3 years ago
Ohhh ok, ic now. But after which row would I start doing that? Sorry, I'm still very new to all of this. ^^''
keitachi 3 years ago
You would increase after row 6.

i was a knitter before i even atempted crochet. it only started as a way to fill time in the library and i learned from a random book(i couldnt reallly understand it you have clarified things for me and been really helpfull and im using your tutorials alot as they are very easy to follow!) but to my question i hold my wool with my right hand. i find it very difficult to hold the yarn anyother way. ive been a knitter for most of my life so its natural to me. should i try and break this habit?
marshmallowofdoom 3 years ago
You should hold the yarn in a way that is comfortable for you. There are only suggested methods with holding crochet yarn. I don't hold my yarn according to the suggested method. If it is working for you, don't change.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
that scratching sound is so annoying.

I am sorry for the squeak, but it is a part of crochet. I never even noticed it until doing the video tutorials.

is it just me or are you doing your single crochets totally wrong?
you look like your doing slip stitches as your single crochets =(
fatalfairie 3 years ago
I am doing single crochet. There is only one movement of the hook for a slip stitch and one loop on the hook to complete the slip stitch. A single crochet has two loops on the hook before it is completed.
tjw1963 3 years ago
Different countries have different names for the crochet stitches. If that is the case, that can make it confusing. I am teaching American crochet stitches.
tjw1963 3 years ago
Fantastic. Thank you so much for demonstrating how to do this. I'm very new to crochet but I'm already hooked. You're a natural teacher - keep up the good work. Thank You!

is there a way to make a rectangular verson of this? like if you want to make cube looking plush toys? i was just wondering if thats possible and if so how could i accive it?
btw great tutorial ^_^
Mitz3h 3 years ago
Could you use the 'magic ring' to start the ball? I was just wondering.
jillianmitki 3 years ago

I understand the frustrations that come with crochet. It is great that you are understanding it now. Thank you for the kind comments.
